    Simon’s boss, Gerald, slammed two more notebooks onto Simon’s desk. The loud impact scared the shit out of him, and he lost his place in the spreadsheet he was working on. Gerald was old and smelled like cigars. He was tall and imposing, with a big gut and a deep voice. We need these for the meeting tomorrow at 9 AM, he said.

    Simon was already sweating from the pressure. He was slim, and young, and constantly terrified that he would lose his job. So should I stop entering the other ones? he asked.

    We need all of it, Gerald said. He walked away before Simon could say another word. It was already 4:45. Most of his coworkers were heading out already. But if he didn’t enter all these handwritten sales leads into the database, and cross-reference them with existing leads, and assign them all to the appropriate reps, he’d be gone for sure. He couldn’t afford to lose this job.
