E. Connally - I am an engineer, IT Manager and Entrepreneur. I have been writing for fifteen years and I am also a professional photographer. I have lived in Jamaica, Texas and all over the United States, but now live in Tennessee. I have traveled extensively in Africa, Asia, India and the Caribbean. There's something sensual and romantic about visiting another country and trying to understand its people and culture, so I try and weave my travels into all my stories.I love creating things, whether it be a beautiful sensual photo, building a chemical process or a rich steamy story. Creating things is a very personal, romantic and sensual act. I have been a photographer for over 30 years and a writer for 15. I published my first photography book over 25 years ago and my first written book 14 years ago.Being a hopeless romantic I began writing romance stories in 2005. Somehow hot and steamy passion seemed to enter into every story. So began my new career as an romance author that also believes wistful, daring, uninhibited desire is part of beautiful intimate love. All of us want to find that love. The one that conquers us, makes us weak in the knees and has a sense of belonging that completes us. It takes real strength and courage to surrender complete control to your lover, but without yielding to your lover you will never find what you seek. Submission in a relationship is strength covered in dignity. While love is a delicate balance between preserving who you are and at the same time giving all you have to your lover. To truly love you must be able to sacrifice. You must be able to give of yourself completely and totally without any regard to the consequences. Likewise, you must be able to take what you want from your lover, what you need, as well as what you desire. It's this intimate dance of give-and-take that makes love so powerful and earth shattering. As mere mortals, all we crave for someone to love us with as much passion and commitment as we love them. As simple as that sounds is incredibly hard to achieve, but when it happens look out because your world will never be the same.

    Dedication

This book and all others that come after it are dedicated to my Dad. He started all this. When my dad passed, my brothers and I began going through all of his stuff we found he had been writing a book. To be honest it was more of a historical accounting of our genealogy, and it was quite dry. However, it got me to think about writing.

I started writing, but somehow the problems in my own life began appearing in my writing. When work was frustrating my characters seem to also get into trouble, but always found a way out. When romance was lacking in my life, my characters seem to find hot the passionate romance I could not find.

In other words, my writing became my catharsis and life seemed much simpler on the pages of a book. Why can’t life have logical and loving conclusions to our human frailties like they exist in stories?

    Acknowledgement

I wanted to thank all my fans that gave me ideas for various scenes in this book. Your feedback is the food for my writer's soul and your ideas feed my writing compulsion. I wanted to single out Tigerssman, ess, mishfoxyy17, Navaura, and tiemeup.makemecum for their ideas and feedback.

I also want to thank two very special people. First my editor, Ann, without her, my ideas would be here, but in an unreadable format. She structured and crafted my words into proper English language making everything readable. I did not do well in English Grammar class, so trust me you are very happy that I have such a wonderful editor. In addition, she gave me ideas for character development and directions for the story. This story is as much hers as mine.

The second special person is Brandi at ebook Cover Designs. She put together the cover design and it pulled a story into a book. I have worked with many other artists, but Brandi is incredible, easy to work with, resulting in covers beyond my wildest expectations. The Covers make the book, and they are better than I ever envisioned.

Thank you all for helping this come together into the ebook The Mermaid and the SEAL.

    Chapter 1

Mira loved watching humans frolic in the ocean and several times she would shed her tail, morph into human form and wander among the humans. Unlike her fellow mermaids, to her the humans seemed carefree and loved to enjoy life and love. Her life in Mermaid Cove was fraught with the danger of being caught and rules within the mermaid community were very confining. Their rules restricted when and where a mermaid could go because if one was caught, everyone else would be hunted.

Mermaids had to remain hidden for the safety of the entire clan. Folklore, passed down through the ages had left an ingrained fear of humans and what they would do to a mermaid once caught. So, everyone watched out for each other, and rules were laid out to keep everyone safe.

She longed for the freedom the humans offered and spent most of her free time hidden in the shallows watching the men and women frolic, play and sometimes even make love. After her eighteenth birthday, her hormones began to drive her crazy and now three years later she still hadn’t found anyone that lived up to her standards. Now, she would spend more time than ever watching the male humans and the urge to mate was strong. Like every mermaid around her age, the need to mate was strong and a human male was her preferred mate.

This was the mermaid paradox. There was ingrained fear of humans, but human males were preferred mate for mermaids looking for a mate. Mira had always been a bit of a rebel. She hated following all the rules and while she was careful, she wasn’t paranoid about being caught in a fisherman’s net or hook on a fishing pole. She had heard stories about those mermaids that had been caught and were put on display, tormented and eventually died. But she believed that they were just stories.

All the humans she saw were kind and respectful of everything in the ocean. While the fear her mother had instilled in her was still there, she really didn’t fear the humans, as-a-matter of fact she loved watching them and wanted to be a part of their culture. She wanted to have a human lover, friend and companion. So, she spent all her free time watching, waiting and longing for the right man.

Since she had reached the age of consent, she longed for a mate, but not just any mate, he had to be human. She had been taught from an early age that human men are the desirable mate. They bring new blood into the clan and refresh the gene pool. While mermen did exist, they were rare and in general outcasts, loners and infertile. So, most mermaids when they became of age started paying attention to human males.

One day during her forays in Mermaid Cove, she saw a gorgeous hunk of man. She altered her path to follow him from a distance but didn’t get very close. Her underwater vision showed him to be a strong virile male and gorgeous as well. Her interest was piqued, and she came back every day about the same time to see if he would reappear. Her mind’s eye remembered rippling muscles delivering smooth easy strokes as he swam. Something about him drew her to him like a magnet. As she watched him a hunger grew in her sexual core and with her dreams, she knew this was the man for her.

On the third day he showed up again, but still she hesitated to get up close. While he was strong, handsome and powerful, he also exuded a fearsome authority that made her keep her distance. After the third day she wanted a closer look. Everything she saw on the first day was only enhanced as she watched him swim.

She timed her foray towards the mouth of the cove to watch the
