Chapter One: Bad Luck
The harsh wind brushed her face as soon as she opened the front door. There was going to be a storm but that didn't matter to Jeanette whose face was strewn with tears. She walked into the dark street, bringing her hands to her face as the tears poured freely. She should use her eyes to know just exactly where she was dropping her feet but Jean trudged on and her sobbing had become louder. She bumped into a warm figure that embraced her. She smiled when her hunch came correct as Jimmy lay cozily close to the fireplace. She helped the shivering Jean settle on a settee. She found a blanket and covered her with it. On her way to the kitchen, she bent over Jimmy and stroked his head. Jimmy did not react
