Chapter 1. Lacrima — Reborn in Another World

This story is fiction and fantasy. And any similarity to real people or events are coincidental.

    This story is completely fiction.

Prologue 1. Vitalia — the Happiest Girl in the World

Earth, beginning of the 21st century.

What is happiness? Russian classical writer Leo Tolstoy, in his novel ‘Anna Karenina’, wrote: All happy families are alike, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

Similar words can describe an individual in modern society. That all happy people are alike, but every unhappy person is unhappy in one's own way. Of course, one can object: each person has one's own happiness and misfortune too. But if we take the classic generally accepted model of happiness as an example, we imagine a girl or young man with an athletic figure, a good education, a good job and a successful personal life.

Vitalia, at twenty-four years old, had everything a girl could dream of. Her name, of Latin origin, meant ‘life’. Born into a good family, she was beautiful, athletic, graduated from school with the highest grades, found a temporary job and began an independent life. She was also a vegetarian, loved animals and even helped as a volunteer at a dog shelter. Later, Vitalia graduated from a prestigious university, quickly found a new, more prestigious job and met the man of her dreams.

Vitalia's lover also met all the criteria of the classical generally accepted ideal: he came from a good family, handsome, athletic, well-mannered, intelligent, with a good education and a prestigious job. The man loved Vitalia very much, and she loved him. At least that's what everyone around them thought. And the lovers behaved like a classic ideal couple of lovers. They were going to get married soon. Therefore, it is not surprising that Vitalia called herself the happiest girl in the world.

Vitalia had a twin sister, Veronica. Her name is of Greek origin and means ‘she who brings victory’. Veronica, unlike Vitalia, considered herself a complete loser. After all, she graduated from school and college with average scores, could not find a job, and she did not have a personal life as such.

The girl lived with her parents, got temporary part-time jobs, spent a lot of time on the Internet and played video games. She had no friends, but she had a prolonged depression. Veronica did not go outside unless necessary and took a passive position in life.

Oh no, Veronica wasn't always like this! As a child, she was a very active child. She tried to be friends with other children and do well in school. But friendship was difficult for her: the girl saw how other children were often cruel to each other. They said unpleasant things to each other, made cruel jokes, and could cause physical harm to each other.

Veronica, watching all this, once asked herself a question: does she really need to be friends if true friendship cannot be achieved? Of course, her parents always told her: You must have friends. No, not like this: You MUST have friends. And also: You SHOULD study well, you SHOULD look good, and so on. The girl’s parents never said: Do you want to have friends? We'll help you with advice on how to make friends! But if you don’t want to be friends with anyone right now, that’s okay! The question has always been
