A Life Of Morality, Loyalty And Love
CHAPTER ONE
It was in the evening and the room was too hot to his bearing, due to intensified heat of the sun during the day. So, Ocheewa took his father’s mat, spread it outside the room but; in the veranda, and he laid on it with his face looking to the direction of the sky. Immediately, his eyes caught sight of the moon. The moon was in its full shape, giving its light maximally. Not too far from it was the galaxies of stars that twinkle now and then. As he tries to look away from the sky, his eyes again refocused on the trees. The trees were motionless then he began to see the reason why the weather was hot. Unlike the previous day that wind was blowing trees to the direction of its choice, making the leaves to waving at mankind, thus supplying fresh air; this particular night was different. His admiration of nature has made him travelled in the wings of sleep to the dreamland and the next time he finds himself was at the smile of a new down.
He quickly jumped out of the mat and up to his feet. He rolled the mat, took it in and dashed out to the bathroom. Fortunately for him, there was no queue to further delay him. Ocheewa had the quickest bath ever in his recent past and then set out for the journey he had earlier planned to embark. He entered his car and drove off heading to the city of Enugu. He had hardly gone far than the sky began to frown; predicting to rain in no distance time. As he was driving, he started noticing an unusual sign in his car, but he ignored it and then accelerates faster hoping to check it when he gets to the city although, it does not tarry when the car came to a halt. He went to the nearby car mechanic shop and after protracted hours, it was fixed but not later than a few hours of driving; his car conked out again in the hamlet of Opi-Nsukka.
Oh, not again! Ocheewa exclaimed. It was a lonely road. He managed to push the car out of the expressway and began to diagnosing the likely faults he could think of and rectify on his own without the help of a mechanic. He opened the hood of the car and looked over the connections from the battery to the engine, he examined the two terminals closely looking for any disconnection but all he could find was corroded particles and debris on the battery terminals so, he quickly rushes to the car boot and get a steel brush and starts getting rid of it. As soon as he was done cleaning them, he fixed the cables back to the normal positions on the battery terminals tightly and hops into the car trying to start it but to no avail.
By then, the atmosphere became misty and with dark clouds to the extent that the sky could no longer withhold its tears and it started drizzling. He looked at his wristwatch; it was 4: 45pm. The possibility of getting a car mechanic in around there was almost zero as at that time.
Ocheewa’s plan of getting to the city that day was thwarted. The thought of where he could pass the night suddenly creeps into his mind. He hurried out of the car, put his tools in order, locked up his car door and boot and started looking for where he could pass the night. It was truly a lonely place. Development hasn’t visited that region. He couldn’t find an inn not to talk of
