Rancher's Daughter 2

Rancher Romance with Complications!
Book 2 of this New Adult 18+ Romance

Was the first book's tangled romances of the two girls, and a choice of two men each, the end of the story? Think it couldn't get any more complicated? Well, add in another two girls in the shape of Austin's two older sisters and conjure on the permutations now!

At least one of the characters we met in book one of this rancher romance very soon ends up in hospital, will this cause problems? Attention will be focussed on the machinations as the new circumstances help each player discover where their loyalties lie. Affecting especially the core, centered around Austin and Kate, but now complicated even more by the new players.

Austin still has to try and reach a satisfactory outcome for hersef and Kate, with the wedding(s) looming ever closer.  This must necessarily take a back seat in the rearrangement of so many prospective futures! However, there is still time to 'fit in' in a variety of ways, the more intimate side of the Rancher romance, with several more matchups now possible!

Will Austin finally manage to settle all the problems? Will there be a Bride, or even Brides? Surely some things will work out satisfactorily!

    Chapter One

What’s this I hear about a new fella, Miss Austin? asked Mellie in a teasingly condescending tone, looking out from the top of her white retro shades. The oldest and self-proclaimed most fashionable sister, Mellie had a sly grin that meant she thoroughly approved of the new beau even though she teased Austin for the change of heart. She knew all about Dawson; what she craved was the intimate details.

What I want to know, added Annie with a laugh, looking toward Mellie before returning her full attention to Austin, is if you get to keep both diamonds, baby sister.

Oh, you girls are terrible! squealed Austin. You both know I can’t keep that ring.

Austin, dear, Mellie asked, all too sweetly, have you not given the ring back to that jilted boy? Annie and I are starting to think you haven’t told him the wedding is cancelled. Isn’t that right, sister?

Annie was smiling as she shook her head, correcting Mellie. Well actually, the wedding wasn’t cancelled... the groom was.

Austin smiled, allowing the sisters to have their fun at her expense. She didn’t mind; it was nice to have them home on the ranch for a few days. Both seemed to be enjoying themselves as they continued to tease Austin regarding her recent change of heart.

Even though they were picking on her, Austin couldn’t help to admire her sisters. They were both stunningly beautiful with raven hair and big brown eyes. Mellie, the oldest, had taken full advantage of her complexion by choosing an unforgettable shade of red lipstick and matching scarf tied in her hair for the occasion. The white sunglasses and matching white shorts gave her the look of a voluptuous Hollywood starlet... or maybe it was the sultry way she teased, pouted and laughed. Mellie kept her hair at shoulder length, often curing it in ringlets that perfectly framed her face.

Annette, the middle child, still followed Mellie’s lead, even as adults. One full inch taller than Mellie, Annie had a more innocent look, partly because she almost never wore makeup, kept her hair long and straight, and opted for clothing that didn’t call attention to her striking ‘brick shithouse’ build.

Daddy often bragged to his friends that Annie was the boy he’d never had, due to her love of the outdoors and desire to work with the animals on the ranch. She had begged mamma and daddy not to send her off to school but education was important to them. She had compromised, going to Murray State College in Kentucky for a degree in Agriculture. ‘So she could help daddy someday,’ she had said.

Austin reminisced on her own decision to attend college with her best friend, Kate, at LSU in Shreveport. Kate’s family lived near Shreveport and it wasn’t too far from the ranch, making the university a perfect choice. She and Kate had decided on Nursing School together. It was part of their plan to become inseparable.

Annie was almost finished with college, which meant she’d be back home on the ranch soon enough. Mamma and daddy were really looking forward it. Apparently, I will be here too, Austin thought, here or next door at Dawson’s place. The thought of Annie being home sounded so nice, but the thought of falling asleep every night in Dawson’s arms was even better.

Austin couldn’t imagine how Annie could have avoided a boyfriend while she was away at college. She had natural beauty that was far beyond average, enhanced by soft glowing olive skin, and her lips were blush without the use of lipstick. While Mellie talked of this guy and that, Annie held on to her secrets. It’s funny how sisters could be so opposite of one another.

Thinking of their unique differences, Austin wondered how she ever ended up with such a fair complexion and ultra-blonde hair, but daddy said she looked just like mamma in her younger days. Annie’s hair was longest, reaching her waistline, while her own hair length was close behind. In personality, Mellie was always older, wiser, while she and Annie had the most in common.

The youngest of the three sisters, Austin would likely be the first to marry... unless Mellie or Annie eloped first. Mellie had been engaged once but she refused to speak of it now. She’d caught him with another gal and daddy had fired him instantly and sent him packing. That was when daddy laid down the law about the hands coming anywhere near his girls. There was absolutely no fraternizing with the help under daddy’s rules.

Remembering Mellie’s broken engagement to the ranch hand reminded Austin of her daddy’s reaction when she had told him about Dawson. He’d been quiet as she and Dawson had told him the news. It had been hard to tell daddy that she no longer planned to marry the veterinarian or move into the guest house, but he had taken it well. Austin remembered how relieved she had been to learn that Dawson wasn’t one of daddy’s hands. This made it far easier to get his blessing.

She had also worried that mamma would be upset after all the planning and reservations had been made, but she had smiled in such a way that Austin knew she had known something was up for some time. Mamma always seemed to know things long before anyone wanted her to. It was kind of a sixth sense. Besides, none of the plans had actually been cancelled... at Dawson’s request.

Dawson hadn’t officially asked her to marry him. He had only suggested that she not cancel all the wedding plans, only the reservations. Austin wouldn’t feel right using the same wedding date that Jerry and she had initially chosen. A new date would be required before she could walk down the aisle with a clear conscience.

Poor Jerry. Austin couldn’t help but feel guilty every time she thought of him or heard his name
