The Well of Time

Trrinn stood the shadow of the Well, one hind paw raised as she traced her the tip of her tail-hand along the wavering lines of the rammed earth that wound around its burnished umber walls. Geologic strata echoed in the stacked layers of earth hammered down until they were harder than stone. She could almost smell the paws, no, hands who had worked these walls in the relative smoothness or roughness of the lines, despite the scents of the creators having been buried by centuries of time.

The rammed earth had been put in place by so many humans working together. Lovely to find another social, cooperative species. Even better that they were…

Well, what they were.
