    Don’t Rush the Muddy Waters

    By William Gaillard Ellis Jr

    Chorus

Don’t rush the muddy waters don’t rush it my friend

For the gates will stand open until we all enter in

Don’t rush the muddy waters don’t rush it my friend

For the waters been muddied by us children rushing in

When life seems in danger and you know eternity is near

On the shore of old Jordan we’ll stand waiting to hear

For the Trumpet will sound and our crossing appears

The waters will muddy by feet that are so dear

When the multitudes start crossing it will be a wonderful sight

We’ll see the Pearly Gates where there is no night

Our eyes will be on Jesus our hearts full of his light

For in the muddy water our wings will shine bright

Don’t rush the muddy waters walk slow and enjoy the show

For the millions that know Jesus it is time for us to go

Take your time crossing take it easy and take it slow

For each step is a victory what joys we will know

    Chapter 1

I mean I have done some of the dumbest things in my life that turn out great. But a few years ago had to be the most stupid thing I have ever done and I’m now I’m a rich man and married to the greatest women in the world. I still do not know why I did it? I guess I had to know. It all because of those darn little signs posted on the fence posts that did me in for I’ve been seeing them for hundred miles or more. It simple said, Why be scattered over a grave yard when you could be scattered across the prairie.

So there I was on highway 75, hoping to make it to the next town and get some gas when another of those small signs appeared and said, Last chance to be scattered on the prairie.

The town, if you could call it that, had two gas stations, a grocery stores and of course a large feed store and gave me much joy as I pulled up to the gas pump. A young lad, no more than sixteen came quickly running out of the Garage where a nice Dodge could be seen having its oil change. Then as I undid the seat belt the lad said, How much gas you want?

I didn’t answer till I stood outside and did a little stretching and said, Fill her up and where can I find the restroom?

You’ll find it inside, the lad returned just as he was turning on the Gas Plump.

As I was about to leave for some reason I stopped and asked the Lad, These signs about being scatter across the prairie does it mean what I think it does?

He looked at me then with a smile said, You are talking about those that scatter the dead. The only thing I know is they are paid to scattered someone’s ashes over the prairie after they are cremated.

How much does it cost? I then asked.

Don’t know, the lad returned while looking away out into the prairie around him. In the silence that followed his statement I could hear the clanking of the gas pump. As I was about to turn away when he quietly said, But I also heard they take the dead and let the wolves eat them. Then you’re scattered across the prairie with their droppings.

I stopped and his statement intrigued me none the lease and asked, You sure about that?

Not really, he answered but as I turned to enter the garage my mind was racing as I reflected upon his words and some reason I felt he told me the truth. It intrigued me and for some reason I just had to find out if his words were true or not."

That was when my really dumb act started. I should have just kept driving on down the road, but no, as I left the gas pump, I could not help myself and down the road I went straight toward this Ash Scattering place. As I drove my mind was racing with the thought of having my ashes scattered all across the Prairie. I wonder how much it would cost and just how would I go about it, when what I was seeking appeared with red and yellow flashing lights and a sign reading, Your scattering place for permanent ending of a wonderful life.

I parked and could see a Funeral Wagon parked near a loading dock and as exited my car, I heard the older of the two men standing upon the docking platform pointing at the paper work in the other saying, It was made clear to you in the documents that you must have at least one witness for the wolf scattering method.

That is when my next dumb action came for as I started toward the lobby one of the men called toward me and said, How would you like to make Five hundred dollars?

Now this is where I should have run. I mean run back to my car jump in and race as fast I could back to the main road. But instead I said, Sure. What do I have to do?

Be our witness, he answered as he walked passed the older man and shook my hand saying, My name Ralf Samson and I am in charge of following the request of Mr. Smith who passed away recently in his sleep. I did not know I needed a witness to watch the scattering procedure for wolf scattering and I thank you to my upmost for willing to be our witness to the Wolf Scattering method.

I suddenly grasp what he really wanted me to do and before I could move he place five, one hundred bills in my shirt pocket and smile as he said, I’m sure you’ll be glad you did it I assure you.

I started to pull the hundreds out and look at them for I felt it was wrong to be paid to do such a thing. I really hadn’t grasped what I had gotten myself into. What I was thinking, I just had to see this scattering and without realizing it I pull the hundreds and handed the money back to Mr. Samson and said, Here I’ll do it for nothing.

What I know now and what I knew then, I should have charge two million.

Mr. Frank said, Will you sign my document that you are performing this as a witness for Mr. Smith on your own accord seeking no rewards thereof.

I smile as I sign on the dotted line while also providing a phone and address. Then he took my driver license and as I handed the papers back he recorded the license on his cell phone and said, You will not be sorry for doing this I assure you.

I heard him but my inner voice was saying, Dummy you have done it now. There is no way out.

Mr. Frank handed me back my license and as he turns toward the other man he said, Please wait here Mr. Ellis.

Then to the other man seem to smile as he said, Believe we now have a witness and make sure you pay him well as he follows the drops.

The word Drops I caught my attention and my thoughts by now was getting this better run feeling when a giant of a man appeared from beside the Black Death Wagon and looking down upon me and said, So you are the witness.

    Meekly I said, Yes.

You, lucky dog you. He laughed, Man I wish I was in your shoes. His words perk me upped and I asked, Why is that?

Come and follow me and I’ll tell you on our way for your first Witness section what you are in for, the giant of a man asked as he turned to reenter the parking garage. He stopped and turning back to me said, I am sorry I have not introduced myself.

He surprised me as he held out his huge hand for me to shake and said, My name is Dwain Thomas and your name is William Ellis. Is that right? I took his huge hand and said, Yes, I am William Ellis.

Dwain gave me a funny look with his head a little sideways said, I like you and I believe I’m in for wonderful adventure this time.

I caught the words, This time, and quickly said, What do you mean, This Time?

Dwain looked at me as we walked upped the ramp leading into who knows what and said, They did not tell you? I will be your body guard as you embark upon an adventure that will last a life time.

I pondered on his words as we enter into somewhat like the entrance into a hospital all white with the same grayest floor surface, like a huge slice of granite. Dwain stopped little ways into the area and using a cell phone said, Mr. Ellis is here.

Being called Mr. Ellis by this giant of a man allowed how I had been feeling to be more at ease about the situation I gotten myself into. But still, I looked back and wondered if I could outrun Dwain to the car. But that thought went out the window as walking out of the double doors walked a slim figured man pulling down one of those surgical face masks and really smiled as he said, Mr. Ellis, if you would come with me we will start your witness program.

I really did not want to leave Dwain but as we stopped by the double doors he reaches into a container and handed me a white coat like he had on and said, You cannot enter unless you are well protected. It is for your and my protection.

As I finish darning the white coat, he handed me gloves and a mask which I also darn. When I appeared ready, I told him and said, I guess I’m ready for whatever about to happen.

He replaced his mask and appeared to smile as we passed through the double doors as if indicating to me all will be alright. I just followed him and inside off to the left stood a fairly large all glass covered room and within it was two men in white coats and masks and there stretched out on a caddy between them was the body of a half covered old man whom I assumed was this Mr. Smith while also thinking, I wonder if that really is his name.

My escort led me to the only chair in the area close to the glass edge and as I took a seat I could now see Mr. Smith’s body clearly and as I took the seat my escort said, Mr. Ellis. As Mr. Smith’s witness, your first eye Witness Event will be to determine if this body before us in the glass enclose is really Mr. Smith’s or not.

I shall show you a film where you will meet Mr. Smith. After viewing the film, I will have you sign papers that this body in the glass containment is truly Mr. Smith or not."

My escort left me and walked toward a panel in the wall and that is when I noticed that the wall was but one huge TV screen as it suddenly came on a fancy Logo appeared featuring two bare foot images taking a small step and lines coming forth into a circle of different animals from a shark to a lion. Above the symbol was only the word Scattered and below the symbol the word Forever.

Slowly the Logo left and was replaced by an old man who was sitting behind a desk with several papers before him. I glance over at the body behind the glass and the man inside who was supposed to be Mr. Smith looked just like the image on the TV screen so I assume it was Mr. Smith and started to say so when Mr. Smith looked right at me and said, "Let me be the first to Thank you for being my witness in seeing that my last request is fulfilled. Your probably have a lot of questions and the only answer I can give you, it is my wish to support wildlife campaigns across the world and I’m giving my body to do that. I have chosen each animal drop carefully and I assure you as my witness you are in for a treat.

My problem is I just gotten too old to have the adventure myself. So when I learned of this Scatter Forever outfit, I made a decision to let you, my witness, have the adventure for me as they scatter parts of me to animals all across the world. It is as simple as that. There is no hidden agenda or some type of deceit in my request but there or those that are not happy with my decision. I’m afraid they will try to stop you. If you as my witness is not able to watch every drop I’m afraid and in fact, I know they will take advantage of the situation and stop all my donations which falls within millions of dollars. I believe you now understand me and as of right now, if you do not wish to follow through with my last request and be my witness you can leave."

The screen went blank and my escort behind me said, What is your answer?

I bowed my head and looked at my old tennis shoes I had on and thought, I will need to call my brother and tell him I want be by to visit them this Easter. I have some of my clothes with me and. But my wondering mind was broken when I heard, Mr. Ellis, what will it be?

I lifted my head and said, Sorry I was thinking what I have to do before I am completely involved in Mr. Smith’s adventure.

Then you will perform Mr. Smith’s last request and be his witness? my escort asked.

    Yes, I answered.

Suddenly the screen came back on and standing behind Mr. Smith was now several men and women who looked somewhat like him and I figured were his children. I was right as Mr. Smith said, I would like you to meet all my children sense you have chosen to be my witness. My wife died several years ago and I will soon be with her. I have explained to them what my last request involves. They fussed on me a little bit but they understand my love for our wildlife which I have supported with many donations and they are not surprise that I have chosen to send out parts of my body to be eaten by many of those I helped to save. So I and my family wish you the greatest adventure of a life time for I have planned it so.

As he finished, the children behind him almost as one said, Thank you, But I could see in their faces they were not all happy with his decision as the screen went blank.

I turned back around to face my escort when another man in mask and white coat appeared carrying couple clipboards and said, My name is Al and for better words, I am the paper trail man while you’re here. At each witness location I will appear and have you sign a document stating that you have witness the event. Now that you have agreed to be Mr. Smith’s Witness for starters I would like you to sign this document.

He then handed me the clipboard and document upon it just plainly said, I William Ellis believe the body within the glass closer is the same Mr. Smith as I viewed upon the video?

I took the pen he handed out to me and signed the document. But when I handed the sign document to Al, he handed me another clip board and he said, I have several witness documents that I will place before you as you witness the preparation of Mr. Smith’s body to travel to the many animals he has chosen to be consumed. Basically his whole body will be ground into something like hamburger meat and place in many special containers, frozen for transportation and I will meet you at the different drop sights where they will be fed to the animals. Now for your second witness event, you will witness his body entering the grounding machine. After it has entered, please sign the witness document you have before you.

I looked at him when I notice those inside the glass cage they were moving Mr. Smith’s body toward an opening within the glass room and I could see it led downwards. I stood to see farther and could just make out some kind of machine below. I was thinking of sitting when the two men raise the stretcher in such away Mr. Smith’s body slide head first down the shoot and when I could just make out his legs below they began to jerk as if this Mr. Smith’s body was slowly being pulled into opening of some machine which I now figured was some kind of grinder. I gritted my teeth to keep from saying outward what I was feeling inward.

I force my eyes off what was going on below and looked at Frank and said, I guess he will be mulch before long and seeing what is happening below gives me a better meaning of that word also.

Frank answered and saying, I haven’t thought of the procedure that way, but it does make sense. Anyway, I assure you Mr. Smith is not feeling a thing. I guess not, I answered as I sign the document indicating I have seen Mr. Smith’s body enter the grinding process.

As I handed the clipboard back to Al, Frank my escort said, AL, he all yours.

Al did not answer him as he left us but Al turned to me and said, Follow me.

We exited the room through another door and entered a nice lounge area. But, just before I followed, I took one more glanced down at what was happening to Mr. Smith’s body and noticed only his legs were left of him. I cringed.

Would you like some refreshments, Al asked interrupted my wondering mind as I noticed the lounge area had a small space like a kitchen where a big coffee pot sat.

Al continued into the kitchen area saying, I have coffee, several different sodas and fresh donuts.

Coffee and couple donuts would be great, I answered as I took a seat in the lounged chair that look comfortable and had a nice table beside it.

As I sat and got myself comfortable, Al came forth carrying a hot cup of coffee and a box of donuts and as he placed them upon the table beside me he said, Mr. Ellis is it alright if I call you William. We here at The Institute of Scattered Forever Trilogy try to stay away from formal names.

Sure call me William if you like, I answered as I took a drink of my coffee and was quit surprise at the smooth taste it had. All my friends call me William but my brother and sister still call me Bill. I grew up being call, Bill Jr.

William it will be, Al answered as he took a seat in one of the other lounge chairs. I want to be frank with you. I wish I was in your shoes. Did you know you are about to travel all over this world to watch containers full of Mr. Smith remains to be fed to different animals and while doing this you will be paid quit handsomely I assure you.

I took another drink thinking how to answer Al before I said, I am just now grasping what I have gotten myself into, this witness thing. I do not know why I volunteer. I just could not help myself and I guess it was just my got to see thing about me.

Al again said, I still wish I was in your shoes.

I reach for another donut and suddenly thought on Al’s word about being paid. Before I took a bite I said, I just caught on you said I’ll be paid. Why would you do that? I am hoping you would just provide me with a place to sleep and eat while delivering the remains of Mr. Smith to wherever they are going. But you said paid and just what do you mean?

Not from us I assure you, Al answered. It will be from Mr. Smith’s estate and the amount could get you a new car are more.

Wow, I answered. I was not expecting any such payment. By now my adventuring instinct kicked in and just could not help myself as I said, I was thinking you would be just providing the transportation, lodging and eats.

You want be sorry I assure you, Al added just before a small beat was heard and on the left exit door a small red light above it began to blink.

Al stood and said, Finish your donut and leave the coffee cup for it is time for your next Witness procedure.

We exited onto a metal balcony and I could see below piled up within was a large open container was the ground up remains of Mr. Smith. I was hoping Al wasn’t going to take me closer but instead I heard Frank behind me say, Our Mr. Smith is now ready to be place into special eatable containers, quick frozen and place in special freezing units for shipment. I would like you to sign the document stating you have seen his remains after being ground and before being placed into special eatable containers that will be fed to the animals that Mr. Smith has chosen.

I sign the documents and as I was handed the clipboard back, I noticed the ground up remains of Mr. Smith were being dumped into another long cylinder opening. The image of that ground blob of flesh which was once a man still lives will live with me as the ground remains of Mr. Smith, if that is his name, slid down into the whatever machine, under my breath I said, I know I should have run for sure now.

As Frank left us, he said, See you down below in the morning around nine. It will take that long before the first protein modules should appear.

All I was able to say before he was gone was, Bye.

Al left the railing saying, He is right. Your next witness event will not occur until morning when the Protein Nuggets, as we call them, come forth, frozen ready for storage.

I followed asking, Just how many of these nuggets do you think Mr. Smith will make?

Can’t tell for the size depends on Mr. Smith feeding list. Al answered while holding the door open for me to pass and as he followed me in said, They will be place in a special frozen locker we have and then divided among the different sights he had chosen to be consumed.

I wondered back to my chair and Al wondered over to the coffee pot and asked, Like a warm up.

Sure, I answered trying the fight the desire to reach for another donut.

As Al refresh my coffee he said, I know you have a lot of questions and are just now realizing just what you got yourself into. I believe this is a good time for you to ask those questions that has been churning in your head, but not from me. I can only tell you I wish I was in your shoes.

Al left me and after he had placed the coffee pot came back and calmly placed one of those large I-pod type cell phones on the table beside me and said, Within this I-pod is Mr. Smith’s reason why he chose to place his body to be consumed by so many animals. But don’t review his words right now. Wait until you are in the room we will be providing you while we are waiting for the final process to be performed upon Mr. Smith’s body.

I picked the large I-pod from off the table and as I examined it I asked, This is sure a fancy device. How do I access his words or whatever?

It is quite simple in fact, Al answered. If you will notice there is our symbol on the screen. Just push it and you will be connected to our phone system and a list of possible questions you might have will appear. Choose one and Mr. Smith on the TV in your room will give you his answer to the question. But the question and answers will only cover what is listed on the I- pod.

I set the large I-pod back on the table and said, I think I understand what you are referring too and I will check Mr. Smith out later.

My words seem to relax Al concerning my quick acceptance of the I-pod and after he refilled his coffee cup said, I’ve been preparing witnesses for over ten years now and you are the first time a complete stranger to the decease has been a witness. Most of the time there are several relatives that perform this task and I’ve seen more than one get sick viewing their love one all ground up doing the process of becoming food nuggets but with you, there is no relative this time. There are only you. Mr. Smith might tell you why when you review his answers to the questions we had placed before him. I personally do not review his answers nor does anyone else within the Forever Scattered Personal. It mostly has to do with the rights of the decease to have privacy with his witness or witnesses.

I understand completely, Al, I said thinking in many ways I wish you were in his shoes.

Al seemed to smile as he finally took a seat from across me. Cross his legs and smile as he said, While you stay with us is there anything you need for tonight. You will find we have provided the essentials for bathroom like toothpaste and such. What I need to know is the exact size for your shirt, pants and shoe size.

I cross my legs like Al and smile thinking new cloths as I said, Pants-34-34, shirt-XL-34-36 sleeve, Shoes 13, and I would need thick socks for shoes most of the time wilder then my narrow foot.

Al uncross his legs and lean forward and his demeanor change as he said, If you like we will provide you with company for tonight.

I perked up at his word for my mind was a long way from sleeping with somebody and in my shock I stuttered as I was tried to smile, speak and yell at the same time. Then with my mind racing at the thought of having sex tonight I finally said, I would like that.

Al leaned back and again cross his legs before he said, I thought you would. When you enter your room you will find a remote beside the bed and on the remote you will find G and a B. You will be in complete privacy. We do not have any listening or camera device in the room for if we did we would break the confidential code imposed upon us concerning both you and Mr. Smith by National Regulations. If we did, I believe we would not be in business long.

I leaned father back into my lounge chair thinking, Is this for real? This just might be a better than I was thinking, partly gross and partly pure happiness.

Al gave a small laugh as he stood and said, I still wish I was in your shoes. Anyway, it is right now almost eight and I’m sure you are hungry. Upon the remote there is a F. Press it and a menu will appear on the TV. Choose what you want and it will be delivered to your door within thirty minutes.

I stood and just smile and with a motion of my arm I said, Just lead me to my room and I assure you, the first thing I will order is something to eat.

Well then follow me. Al indicated as lead me through the third door in the room taking the white robe and mask from me.

As I followed, I was expecting a large office or something like that.

Instead, it was a very larger lounge area with a very high ceiling and across the far side wall was and all marble staircase leading upward onto a balcony where four nice looking doors where located and below the balcony was only three doors which I assumed were larger rooms. There were several plants and flowers scattered around among the chairs and tables.

Al turned toward the right staircase and still not looking back, started to climb the stairs with me following. When we were upon the Balcony, he stopped at the first door and calmly said, This will be your room for tonight. I will not be following you into the room and will be by to take you to your next witness event in the morning around eight.

I stood looking at this very professional man and said, Al, when I first entered this witness thing I was thinking of running away as fast as I could. That has all change for you have made it pretty clear just what I’ve gotten myself into and I just hope it turns out be just as you described.

Al turned and as he left said, It will be that and more. See you in the morning.

I watch him walk down the balcony, down the stairs, and exited the area before I turned to the door, opened it and walked into a very nice bedroom setup with a mirror and dresser, a large King Size bed with small table and lamps on each side, and off to my left a door leading toward the bathroom. On the other side of the bed were positioned two very nice lounge chairs. Then I noticed mounted in the wall across from them and the foot of the bed was a very large TV screen and beneath it was a roll around table with the remote Al mentioned lying upon it. The temperature of the room was cool and comfortable as I calmly walked over, took hold of the remote, carefully took a seat in the lounge chair nearest the bed and found it to be just as comfortable as it looked.

I sat there looking around the room thinking, This is nice. Now let me see just what they have to eat?

I looked at the remote and sure enough there were three buttons marked, G, B, and F. I calmly press the F button and was thinking nothing was going to happen and I started to press the F button again, when a list of different diners suddenly appeared across the TV screen and I quickly notice the Shrimp and Fish meal. I move the cursor to it and press entered. The menu list disappeared and a blowup of the meal appeared and under it said, Press enter again to receive or press cancel to look at another meal.

I gave a smile as I pressed enter while hoping it came with a lot of tartar sauce. As I sat the remote on the small table beside my chair when I notice within the wall one of those store coolers for selling cold beverages with a glass front. Inside were several types of sodas and beer and I smile as I remove a beer from within it, twisted off the cap and took a big drink hoping the beer would calm my need to run and help me accept my faith gladly.

Instead of reseating myself I entered the bathroom and besides a nice shower and sink setup, there was a closet and inside I found several changes of cloths for me to wear. I examined the clothes thinking will I receive the same treatment as I travel around the world. I removed from the packages of new undergarments and placed them upon the large granite table along with a set of pajamas I found. As I returned to the room as I was removing my long sleeve shirt, I heard a knock on the door.

I open it and there upon a dolly cart sat my supper and looking downward just caught the image of a women leaving through a door at the far end of the Balcony I had not noticed before. Thought Oh well as I pull the cart into the room and uncovered the fine fried Shrimp and Fish diner before me and there appear to be plenty of Tatar Sauce. I rolled the cart to my chair and as I sat began to eat the shrimp first.

As I continue to eat, I picked upped the I-pod and taped their emblem upon it and waited and only one question appeared and asked, What do you tell your Witness?

I hit enter and set the remote down as took hold of another shrimp and watched as Mr. Smith image appeared upon the large TV screen and looking right at me through it he said, Hello Witness, I do know your name and being not dead yet I guess I’ll tell you why later. I can consider you as a friend and can call me Edward and. Suddenly he stopped and looking on a sheet of paper said, I have here a list of names and every time I say a certain word your name will come on and I want to assure you I do not know what it is, William.

He laughed as he said, Amazing isn’t it.

For a minute or so Mr. Smith looked through the papers before him. As he did, I consumed almost all of my great tasting Shrimp and was reaching for one of the fried fish sections when he left the papers and looking right at me said, If you are listening to this section. I want to tell you I believe you are in for an experience of a life time. Do not for a second think that this will be a cake walk. My so call relatives do not like the idea of me doing what I am doing with my body and I assure you someone will be trying to stop you in any way shape or form they can.

His words gave me a thought that I just could be heading for trouble as I was taking a drink of my beer, Mr. Smith again looked hard at me it seemed like and said, You saw a picture of my family and I assure you are not happy I did not include them is my feeding. I do not care what they think. But I do care what you think. You will be my witness and will watch as each animal that I have chosen consumed me. I know you will not see what portion of my body they eat for I have been told I will be ground up like hamburger and place in some kind of Protein Wrapper and that includes my bones and all. I assure you I will be feeling nothing and please do not feel sorry for me. It is something I myself want to happen and no one talked me into doing this. Basically being scattered by animals is better than small bugs eating my body and just scattered me around my casket. Then laugh as he kind of shook his head as he did.

He refilled his coffee cup from an insulated pitcher on the table with him. I guess he was letting me wonder over his last words which seem quite clear to me. He wanted to be scattered across the world instead of being buried in one grave site where worms and bugs eat you and their shit scattered you just around your casket. The thought of what he doing seem more logical as I look at it that way.

After he took a good sip of his coffee and as he looked back into the camera, he seemed too become serious as he said, Now this is the important part of why you are witnessing. For after you have signed the document you had witness me being eaten, Mr. Smith stopped and smile into the camera before he continued with, for better words. My trust fund will atomically transfer five million dollars to that Park’s Government system for future welfare of that animal. That includes any place in the world where my body is consumed. My family does not like the idea and I fear will try to stop you but I doubt it. Someone might but who and how I have no idea. But they will try I assure you. So you must be on your guard at all times for there is no doubt in my mind once they have learned who you are, they will come at you with a bribed to stop you are worst. That is why I have provided a body guard for your protection.

As he took another drink of his coffee, I on the other hand lost that should have left feeling as I really grasped the adventure I’ve gotten myself into. I figured just as long as it does not come to a shootout, I’m going to have quit an adventure with a little danger in it as well. I’ll see the world, sleep with pretty women and make a little money at the same time. The more I thought on it, the greater became my joy until I could not help myself as I let out a good yell saying, Darn, Darn and Darn.

I quickly got control of my excitement as Mr. Smith said, I guess by now you are grasping just what you have entered into and knowing men, that I got to run feeling is gone. I wish I was young and were in your shoes right now. But there is a catch to this whole Forever Scattered thing that I have not place before you. There be someone traveling with you, My Grandson."

Again Mr. Smith lean forward and appear to look me in the eye as I was set back at his last words and my, I got to run feeling was returning, But Mr. Smith said, When I was young I love a girl name Martha. I got her pregnant and did not know it for I had to travel all over a year as my Father was beginning to show me the business which I will not go into. While I was gone I lost contact with her and she never told me she was pregnant and being young I move on with my life. It was not till I was sitting beside my dying Father bedside did I learn that Martha, after giving birth to a baby girl, he had her placed the baby up for adoption leaving me free to learn the business. I hire several investigators over the years and it took I guess it was close to twenty years before they were able located her. I believe we got lucky is all. For my Dad made sure Martha and the baby whereabouts were well hidden. I was by then close to seventy and what I found out my daughter had married, had three children, two girls and a boy and six grandchildren.

Mr. Smith leaned back as little ways into his lounge chair and appeared to smile as he said, The youngest Grandson got an older girl pregnant and they chose to give the baby boy up for adoption, My Great Grandson. So unbeknown to them, I adopted him and it will be this boy that will be traveling with you. Right now he is only eight and how old he will be when he joins you I do not know. His name is Joey. I am doing this not to place a burden upon you William but I am asking you as my witness to watch over him for when my family learns about him all hell going to break loose I assure you.

Then he leans all the way back took a drink of coffee and I heard him say under his breath, Cold. There were several cups upon the table sitting on cup heaters and as he leans forward to exchange the one in his hand for a hot cup of coffee, I on the other hand was wondering why me? He spoke of danger earlier and now he is telling me some kid will be traveling with me, knew my name and I wonder what more surprises he had in store for me as I watched him lean back in the lounge chair and take a drink of coffee, taking his time. I assume he was thinking or organizing his thought before he spoke.

But he said, William, I am entrusting you with my Grandson for a reason. I love him and I want him to also witness my scattering of my corpse across the world. For when the family learns of him, I feel his life will turn to the worst and into the adoption agency he will go and I will not be able to stop it for I will be dead. The way I see it, my scattering will be a great adventure and I want him to experience it with you before they do. I hope you can understand me and will fulfill my last request. It depends upon the time of my death if you will also have my youngest daughter with you. She just turned sixteen and like Joey, is unknown by them for just like Joey, I adopted her.

Mr. Smith took a long drink before looking hard into the camera saying, William, as my witness you will find my daughter Beth quite a hand full. But she has a loving heart as well or better than Joey’s. I hope by the time you have finishing witnessing the feeding of my body you will love them as I do. I guess these are my last words I can really say to you, Thanks William.

As the TV went blank and I sat looking at my last piece of fish and the few French fries left on my plate I felt full and no longer hungry.

Darn, I thought, Now there is a young boy, a body guard involved and I wonder what his daughter will look like.

I stood and gentle worked the food cart out the door and as I started to turn around to reenter into my room wondering if I should and should not press the G button when I heard a boy’s voice say, So you are my grandpa’s Witness?

Turning toward the voice I saw a crew top young slender boy around twelve or eleven walking up the stairs with a cold drink in his left hand. He had on a red, yellow and blue crossed stripped T-shirt, blue jeans and a matching pair of blue tennis shoes and as he took a position beside me on the balcony, I could see his slider young body was well built and tall with his head coming almost to my shoulder.

I look at him and I could see he was looking me over as well before I answered him with, I am and I guess you are Joey?

You know my name what is yours? He asked walking around me seeming to examined my body and clothes

William, I answered twisting my head to follow him as he circled me, William Ellis.

I was thinking as he again positions himself in front of me, he seems quite curious about me and from his speech quite use to getting his way especially when he said, "I hope you do not get me into too much trouble? I like you, William. You look adventurous
