About this ebook

Dear Reader,
This is the first Novel I wrote in the Novo Nation of Water Worlds series and I wrote it to keep me from going crazy is what I was thinking when I started. I was dating a girl and things were going crazy, so to really calm myself I started writing and I have not stopped.
I personally feel you will enjoy the Story and the other Stories that have
followed in this series of Novels. But the way I look at this Novel with its wild story it was my first. It has been edited for spelling is all I’ve done with it.

This is my first attempt at writing novels and I have to admit I’ve quite enjoyed it. It gave me something to do at 6. I’m in fair health with the onsloth of old age health problems beginning to appear. I live in the Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas with my lovely girlfriend Barbara Henry, a dog and two cats. I hope you enjoy and read the other Novels that will follow.

    CHAPTER 1

    THE TRIP TO EARTH II

Slowly a speck of consciousness began to emanate in the brain of Mark Waid. A thought here, a thought there, until he began to dream. It was a peaceful dream full of blue, yellow and red flowers blooming along the edge of a gently flowing creek. In the distance, the Sun was setting, outlining fluffy white clouds with its yellow and orange colors. Slowly the induced vision faded as the sensation in his hands and feet begin to wake him. He tried to return back to the peaceful dream state but a gentle voice kept calling his name. Mark, wake up now. It’s time to wake up.

Linda’s voice calling him cleared his mind of the dream state. He opened his eyes as the feelings in his hands and feet began to be more pain then sensation. At first, the view of his surroundings was a blur. Then the chamber walls began to fill his vision as his mind cleared. He suddenly knew where he was and what was happening to him as the state of being alive came streaming back into being as his whole body awoke from being is a state of death for more than two months. He moaned.

Mark, you are a sight for sore eyes. I do say, Linda said as the door of the sleep chamber opened to reveal a strong looking man who needed a shave and haircut.

To keep himself from falling flat on his face, Mark reached out and took hold of the railing next to the chamber. He began to feel around his body making sure no sores had formed while sleeping. He was relieved when he found none. Then eying his wife he said, Well, I bet when you woke up from this contraption you had the same look and how come you always wakeup before I do?

Linda laughed and said, I always like to see your naked body before you see mine. Just in case something fell off and I can see your parts are still there. I wouldn’t like it if any of your hardware was missing.

She turned around and headed out the side door exclaiming, I would have to find another good-looking man and out here in the middle of nowhere that could be hard to do. Now take your shower, dress, and I’ll have something for you to eat when you are done. Then she was gone.

That women, Mark uttered under his breath while he half walked, half staggered toward the shower. While the warm water slowly removed the hours in the sleep chamber he began to utter to himself, How did I ever get myself into this? Here I am a trained genius full of wisdom and knowledge. Yet, not smart enough to say, no. It is all her fault. Yeah, that’s it. She talked me into making this trip into the far reaches of space saying, Just think of all the great knowledge you will gain. But, I do love her and I would follow her to the ends of the Universe. Besides she was going anyway. So what’s a man to do, stand by and see his love leave without him? Oh, man this water feels good."

Linda carefully opened the seal package making sure she did not spill any for then she would have to clean and that was something she didn’t want to do. As she fixed the special meal for those that had just exited from the sleep chambers, she began to ponder over where they were heading.

She knew the planet, which they had labeled Earth II, had been discovered using a powerful telescope placed in orbit around Pluto many years ago. Then a few years ago the Science Community formed a special team of couples to explore it after the Diamond Transition Tuner Engine was developed that could push a vessel at very high speeds across the vast distance they had to travel to reach it.

She had been chosen for her gift to learn different languages. They were thinking positive that there were going to be creatures living on Earth II that the team needed to communicate somehow with. Mark was the Copilot and the problem solver. He was to fix anything that broke down which to his delight nothing had. Then there was Captain Bob and Judy Wilson who were at the Command Station right now watching over the ship’s safety. Bob was the Commander of the Pegasus with Judy coming along for company and to be the cook for the crew. She was also a plant and insect specialist. So basically she was to examine the plant life to see if people could eat and live on Earth II. Then there was Doctor Dave Stump. He was the oldest person on board and was along to keep everybody looking fit and healthy. His wife, Sara, was along for company and to be his helper. She was also a famous photographer who won number of awards for best documentation of Nature.

Linda placed the prepared food into a disposable bowl and thought, If he ever gets dress and eats, the two of us would go meet Bob and Judy. The Pegasus must surely be within a short distance from Earth II by now.

Then she thought, I’m glad the Pegasus was specially made for traveling into deep space. If had been any smaller, I think I’d gone bunkers. Yea, but it was design to take on more equipment and instruments and all of us have been trained to use them. And that space engine, The Diamond Transition Tuner Engine, why it has pushed us across the Galaxy at a half G force forever and I can hardly feel it operate. Just think the concept of it pushing us at a half G then slowing us down at a half G rotating back and forth till the ship arrived at Earth II to give us a sense of gravity to prevent bone lost and such.

As she placed Mark’s meal upon the table Linda thought. I know one thing. I sure hope Earth II is at the distance they had calculated. If I’m right, I believe we’ll be the last couple to watch over the Pegasus. Now where is that Mark? If he does not hurry up, the food will be cold and I’ll have to reheat it.

She turned and looked toward the stairway and there to her enjoyment Mark was slowly heading up for the kitchen area. He had change to the ship’s assign blue clothing like what she had on. From her point of view, he was a very good looking man and felt a lucky woman to have him.

Well it’s about time you showed up. I’ve slaved over this stove for hours making you this delicious meal and I was thinking I just might eat it myself. Linda joked.

Sure you did and I bet it’s really good too. replied Mark as he took a seat. Smiling, he grabbed the plastic spoon and began slowly to swallow the special prepared potage for couples who just came out from under the sleep camber. It tasted like peppermint. As he finished the last of the soup he could feel his strength returning. He was beginning to feel like his old self again.

That works fast. Mark said as he looked into the bluest eyes he knew was the love of his life. How can you cook such a good meal and still be so lovely? He now spoke with that southern accent he liked to use when he wanted to be fresh with her.

Linda just giggled and slowly walked over to him and kissed him just before she said; Now you know we have to relieve Bob and Judy. I want to look my best, so no messing around, you hear,

She quickly slipped out of his arms before he could get them around her. She knew if she stayed, she could not resist his touch. Then they would both be in trouble if they did not report within the time limit set for couples coming out of the sleep cambers. Then those on duty would have to check to determine if all was well with their relief and she did not want to break that rule.

Are you ready to go see them or not? She declared. You know they are waiting to see us and don’t you give me that lost dog look whenever you want something you can’t have. If we don’t report in, you know they will come looking for us.

Linda left Mark and just before the stairway she turned around and said, Let’s go and tell Bob and Judy hello. Then she disappeared up the stairway.

Well, of all things. Mark said as he followed her.

Mark slowly stuck his head into the control room and looked the control room over before entering just catching the laughter of Bob and Judy as Linda hugged them.

It’s about time you two came up and checked on us. Bob said just before he stood and reached out for Mark’s hand as if he hasn’t seen a very good friend for a while.

As Bob sat back down he said, Man it good to see you two. But it appears Judy and I won’t be going into deep sleep. Earth II is already on the monitor and it’s just as we have hoped for its blue.

With his left hand he pointed toward the image of a blue planet on the computer display.

Mark walked over to the monitor and after examining the image said, I see there is also only one Moon.

Bob said, Yes there is and that could mean a stable environment. If there had been more than one moon the pull from the moons would had torn the surface apart making it hard for life to live. Of course that is in theory. What has really surprise me, the Sun is way bigger than our Sun and there still is a water planet orbiting it. Now this is very exciting. It just may mean all Suns could have water planets. I guess we’ll know soon if we can live on it or not. Also, if you have not notice, the ship has been slowing down faster. We should be floating by this time tomorrow just before we set an orbit around the Planet.

While still examining the image before him, Mark replied, Well Bob that was a mouth full. I bet you’re just been waiting to tell someone the good news. It’s almost too much info for my pea brain to soak in right now.

Turning to Linda, he said, Did you hear what Bob said? That means I might never have to enter that contraption below again and that’s the best news I ever heard.

Linda said, I did and isn’t it great?

Leaning back in his chair Mark said, This could prove the theory that when a Sun is formed, the gases that gather and form the planets will gather around the Sun at a specific distance related to temperature and gravity. Thus, a Water World will form at a distance from the Sun at the similar temperature and gravity that formed our Earth. I believe it’s what is referred to as Earth distance. Like our Earth, other Suns should have a planet at a distance where gravity and temperature will equal to what our Earth receives from her Sun.

Mark returned his vision back to the monitor. He examined the other instruments and no other data about the planet could be seen at this time. He thought aloud and said, Man, Oh Man, those guys at NASA sure know their stuff. To send this little ship across empty space and it arrives right on target

Mark rose to his feet all excited and he said, Well Bob, it looks like a winner to me. Shoot, I’m ready to land the Pegasus and begin our exploration right now.

I feel the same as you do. Bob interrupted. All will be known in due time. We are several hours away yet and that image is magnified ten times. You know as well as I that until we get close to the planet there is nothing you or I can do anyway but hoped the Pegasus has slowed down enough to orbit and does not pass it by.

Turning to Judy, Bob said, Would you two ladies mind fixing us some hot coffee or tea and just maybe fine us something good to eat to go with it. Then call us when it’s ready.

He waited for an answer which came from Judy when she said, Sure can and that sounds like a great idea.

Turning to Linda, Judy smiled and said, Let’s go Linda. You fix some coffee and I’ll cook up some kind of sack. While we are doing that, I bet these two guys can figure how to get us around that planet.

As she followed Judy, Linda said, I bet they can do it too. Of course I wonder about Mark though.

    Judy smiling said, You do?

Sure do. Linda joked. I heard him snoring in the sleep chamber before he woke a while ago. It makes me wonder if he could stay awake during the landing process.

I did not. Mark countered as Judy and Sara laughed. If I was, I was dreaming about beautiful Hula Girls dancing on the beach is all?

Still laughing as she headed for the stairs leading down Linda said, If you see any when we land, make sure they are not looking for you to be their next meal.

They were all laughing as the girls disappeared down the steps leaving Mark and Bob alone looking at the blue image on the computer screen.

Mark was the first to break the stillness that formed after the girls had left when he said, So how long is it before we begin to float? By the way, when are you going wake the Doctor and Sara?

Bob turned around and faced the navigation instruments and started to push buttons gathering different readings. Turning to the computer keyboard, he began to run several programs and after several minutes he turned back to Mark who by this time was leaning back in his chair watching him and said, In less than ten hours we should be floating. As for the Doc and Sara, I have already pushed the wake buttons and they should be joining us soon.

He glanced back to the navigation instruments an instance before he continued, You know Mark, when the planet first showed up on the computer screen, I got so excited thinking how we will be the first people to ever meet something that was never born on Earth. If fact, this ship, compared to the vastness of space, is so small. Yet, the people at NASA were able to send us across space to arrive at Earth II. They have also figured out how to get us back in one piece. I’ll tell you the truth. I think we will accomplish our mission. We will bring back to Earth something that could be of great importance. I’m sure of it. We are the first to visit this planet. Then with the data we collect, they will build a great big Spaceship and send people to live and colonize it.

Then Bob leaned back in his chair and looked up at the ceiling at if his mine was far away and said, But you know, we could also fine the planet is too hot, are too cold, are too big, are too small, are just blue for another reason. Yet, I’m thinking positively. What about you?

Mark slowly lean forward and looked at Bob. He was taller than Mark. He also wore his brown hair short which gave him the appearance of leadership. He was a strong man and kept his strength up by exercising which he got Mark or rather ordered all on board to do also. As Bob rechecked the instruments readings, Mark said, Bob, I didn’t know you were a visionary. And it’s a good vision and deep, very deep too.

Mark leaned back in his chair and with a smiled said: All joking aside, I think what you said is possible. In fact, I know it’s possible. We are the best this ship has to offer.

Then using his hand with an upward emotion, he said: In fact, we are the only ones that can do it.

Both Mark and Bob laughed for they both knew how alone they were out here in the middle of space. Just as they regain their composure, Linda stuck her head into the control room and said, Coffee is ready.

Judy was pouring the last cup of coffee when Linda returned. Linda was about five foot six and wore her blond hair short and curly. She also didn’t have to duck when coming back through the doorway.

Well, they are on their way Linda said as she sat down at the table. I am just so nervous I could just die. I wish we were already orbiting around Earth II. If we were, I wouldn’t worry so. I just know I want sleep a wink till we do and I just hope I don’t sick when we float around. Oh Me, I hope not.

Judy looked at Linda and with a smile on her face said, You’ll be just fine. We have the two best men looking out for us and the best Doctor. So quit your worrying will you or I’ll start to worry also?

Judy had just placed Mark’s and Bob’s cups of coffee on the table when they came down the stairs from the Pilot room. She could see Mark needed a haircut and a big smile was upon his face as he sat down beside Linda. As she watched him take Linda’s hand and hold it, she thought These two sure love one another.

But her Bob also looked all the more confident as he sat down at the table and looked at her with his brown eyes. Then, as he took a drink of his coffee, he smiled at her and with a nod said Oh my, that tastes good. Just what I needed after a hard day work at the office and these coffee cakes look delicious.

After he took a bit of his coffee cake Bob said, I want to remind everybody, we will be losing gravity in less than ten hours. So try to make sure nothing is floating around the rooms and check the showers for water. Make sure you tell the Doc and Sara everything that has happened so for when they arrive. Judy and I are going to hit the hay and please don’t wake us. I know you and Mark just woke up. But, unless I get some sleep, I might make a mistake tomorrow when we stop engines and prepare to orbit around Earth II.

Linda said, After Sara awakes, she and I can do that.

Bob looked over at Mark as he finished eating his coffee cake he said, You watch out for rocks. So for the instruments are saying we have clear sailing to Earth II. I’m hoping for the best. Just be prepared for the unexpected. This is the time for a diligent and a watchful eye to the dangers we are about to face. I hope there are none.

Turning to Judy he said, Let’s go and leave the ship in good hands.

As he reached for Judy’s hand Bob said, I sure hope I can get some good shut eye for tomorrow will be something to behold. Then he calmly led Judy out of the room toward their sleeping quarters.

Mark with a surprise look on his face cried out as they disappeared toward their room Good night

Turning to Linda, he said, Well, I was not expecting that. Were you? I thought he would wait for Doc and Sara to arrive. I guess he must be really worried about tomorrow.

I would be to if I was him. Linda said. Don’t you know that he’s going to try his best and he wants to be at his best for all our sakes? This is not the first time he did this, you know. I believe he piloted Spaceships for at least 15 years. Anyway, when Sara arrives, she and I are going to prepare the ship for its arrival at Earth II.

Linda poured each of them some more coffee and laid another coffee cake on the table before she said, Eat up and go check on how we’re traveling through space. Then she sat down beside Mark, took his hand and kissed it. You know I love you. So eat up and go.

As Mark was taking a bit of his coffee cake, Doctor Stump appeared in the doorway and slid into the seat across from Mark. As he sat down, Doctor Stump pointed to his mouth as if something was needed in it. He was a short well-built man with fairly dark skin and with his big beard and long hair you wouldn’t have known he was a Doctor. You swore he was wild man who had sneaked onto the ship.

Hello Doc. Linda said as she set a bowl of the same stuff Mark had when he came out of incubation. We were waiting for you to tell you the good news. We will be orbiting Earth II in less than ten hours. But, the bad news we must get ready for no gravity.

Doctor Stump said, And where may Captain Bob and Judy be?

They have gone to bed. Linda answered. He told us he needed to rest before we arrive.

She was about to asked Doctor Stump where Sara was when she strolled into the room. With her light brown hair, she had this air about her that just fills the room with that Mother is here feeling. As she sat down at the table beside Doctor Stump, Linda set before her the same bowl of stuff she had giving Doc. Then she hugged Sara with a big, I miss you hug.

It’s so good to see you. Linda said as she hugged Sara again. I’ve missed your company. I have some breaking news for you. We will orbit around Earth II tomorrow. That is why he woke us. I’m so excited that I have become a nervous wreck.

Well that is good news. Sara replied as she began to eat her incubation food. Linda again repeated all she had told the Doc but added. I have bad news though. You and I are to prepare the living and eating quarters for no gravity. We will orbit around Earth II soon. I don’t think it will take too long. We’ll get started as soon as you regain all your strength. The sooner we start the sooner it is over.

Turning to the Doc she said, I got some coffee and a coffee cake ready when you want it.

As she reached over and hugged Doctor Stump, Linda said, Now Mark isn’t it time for you to watch over our ship.

Mark, who had been setting quietly watching, slowly stood and headed toward the pilot room. Just before he disappeared, he turned and said, Doc, you can join me when you feel like it.

Mark sat down at the pilot chair and examined the monitors for any danger. None could be seen. It seemed all too good to be true. Here he was on a spaceship and within a short while will be orbiting around a planet a long way from Earth. The unknown they were going to face had him up pacing the floor. He looked at the monitor. Earth II was drawing closer and closer.

He double checked the instruments and started to wonder about what they would be doing when they arrive when Doctor Stump’s voice interrupted his thoughts saying, Thinking of what we’ll be doing tomorrow I see. You know thinking always get you in trouble. While you’re thinking, the fish done stole your bait and is gone.

Doctor Stump sat down in the chair by the display monitor and examined the image of Earth II and its one moon and said, It does look blue and I can see some discoloration as if there may be land also. I hope so. I guess we’ll land on the water after we photograph the whole planet, x-ray it with radar and tell it to open wide and say awww.

He turned away from the monitor reaching out to stop Mark’s pacing and said, Save your energy. You may need it tomorrow. Doctor Orders.

Mark looked at Doctor Stump for a sec thinking how he was a peaceful man to have around. He was the kind of man that knew the answer before you ask the question kind of guy.

They had developed a good friendship while traveling here to Earth II. When doctoring came up, he was all Doctor Dave Stump and nothing else could change him. But, when he wasn’t being a Doctor he was a good friend and companion to be with. He knew lots more than just being a doctor. He played a good game of chess and cards and when he was alone he would write. He was also keeping some type of log of the coming and goings on the Pegasus.

His wife, Sara, was just the opposite. She and Linda were like two sisters. They had to keep a watch for any new ideas they would come up with. Like one night they came up with a sing-along. They made Him and Doc sing love songs they had written. He complained at first, but after a while he began to enjoy the game and pitch right end in such a way that the girls had to make him stop. Then there was the time."

Mark Doctor Stump said to interrupt his thoughts. Mark he said again. You got that blank look as if your thousand’s miles away. As I was saying, I think we are all in very good health for traveling halfway across nowhere. I also believe that everyone’s mental state is as good as expected.

Doctor Stump stood and headed for the door saying I think I’ll check on the girls. It seems Mark got his thinking cap on and I’m just in the way. He patted Mark on the shoulder just before he left the room.

Ok Doc, I’ll stop worrying, Mark muttered as Doctor Stump disappeared down the stairs.

Bob woke as the feeling of floating filled his being. He had sleep soundly with the help of Judy’s night message. As he floated to his cloths, he felt rested and ready to face today’s procedure of orbiting around Earth II. He had done this at least two hundred times are more in his fifteen years as the pilot and commander of Spaceships. He knew it was done mostly by computer. Still, he had to watch certain parameters and make slight adjustments. He wasn’t worried. He had already set the control parameters for orbiting Earth II when it came into view.

As he was putting on his required shoes for floating, Judy drifted into the bedroom. About time you woke up. she said. Earth II is looking really nice. You can see land and clouds and it looks so beautiful. I’m so glad we choose to make this trip. To see and visit a new planet is a dream come true. She hugged him just before she turned him and pushed him lightly toward the doorway.

Get up there. Everybody is waiting for you. Judy said as she pushed him one more time.

After having a liquid breakfast specially prepared in containers for no gravity consumption, Bob slowly floated into the control room and notice everyone was now watching the monitor. It showed a nice big blue planet with several regions indicated continents as well as many small islands. He didn’t stop to look too long as he took his seat at controls and affixed his seatbelt. No one said a word as he began to examine data on the computer screen or as he turned several knobs and typed on the computer key board. He looked at a several orbiting plots and after checking the scientists’ requirements. He chose one. He continued pushing knobs till he felt satisfied.

Bob turned and said Well it seems Earth II is only seven thousand one hundred and thirty-seven miles in diameter. It has an axis tilt of 24%. From the reflected data, the temperature at the equator and north and south poles are very similar to our Earth’s. This is very good news I do say. If the air is the same, then all is go for colonization. I have also set the Pegasus controls to orbit at one thousand miles with an orbit, such, we can map the whole surface. After we have collected all the data we can from space, we will land. Only, after we examined the maps of the surface to determine if it will be on water are on land. We should attain an orbit soon. Now get to your assign places.

Bob continued to monitor the Pegasus progress as the crew disappeared to their required jobs. He didn’t worry about them. With the data he had collected, it just seemed too good to be true. But, there it was, Earth II was proving the theory that all Suns no matter how big are small, they will have an Earth type blue planet. Of course there would be some limits like some of the really large Suns. But, he was surprise that Earth II was not bigger. Then it could be because of the orbiting distance from the Sun or something, he guessed.

I wonder what people on Earth will do when the Pegasus returns to report all is well for colonization. I bet there will a big race to see who can get here first. Bob muttered to himself just before he laughed. He was reaching for a final adjustment when Linda’s voice came over the intercom. Bob, I see a big flashing light on the surface.

Mark voice followed, Yea, I see it too. It’s just north of the equator alone the coast of the tear drop landmass. What do you think that blinking light could mean?

    Linda answered, People

He flipped the screen to the surface image and there flashing on the surface was a bright white light. It was blinking on and off at about seven second intervals. He flipped more switches bringing the blinking light closer. But, from the dark surface he could only see the blinking light. Dang it, he thought, we’re going have to wait for daylight and orbiting before we are able to get more information. Maybe Mark at the radar station can find out found out more or Sara at the camera.

He turned back to the mike, Sara, did you get some good photos around the blinking light

Sara came back with an exciting sound in her voice and said, I did. You’ll not believe what is down there. I can tell you it’s not a city. It looks like there just a tower and a runway like what you land planes on. The tower has a large clear area around it giving the image a lollypop appearance.

Bob thought for a second before he said, Ok, I want everybody to listen up now. After we have examined the whole planet there’ll be a meeting to answer the question on the blinking light. Bring all your data and after we examine the data, we will then determine our next step. Wait. I’m correcting that order. After you finish your assignment, I want each to catch some shuteye and report for the meeting in twenty-four hours. It’s going to take us almost twelve hours to map and examine the planet surface. Good luck everyone.

He sat back in his chair as each of the crew reported to tell him they would do their best.

The mapping and examination of Earth II’s surface fixtures did take almost twelve hours. Mark was doing the radar imaging. Sara was taking photos of the surface which included UV, high definition, and close-ups of any specific areas she thought were important. Linda was video recording the surface texture and liked what she was seeing. Doc and Judy were using special instruments that examined the weather conditions across the planet as well as the air temperature and other atmosphere properties. While Bob from his command post, operated other special instruments that were not required to be man. Most were located in special areas located outside on the Pegasus shell.

As each finish their jobs, they reported to Bob and went to bed. They were all very excited over the flashing light and what it could mean. The last one to retire was Bob after he reviewed the ultra-light photos taken by Sara.
