About this ebook
Immediately embraced by its clientele, Eva quickly becomes a part of the Brighton’s consistent cast. She meets remarkable, interesting, and odd people while sipping pints with the inner circle, which Eva dubs “The Lunatic Club.” She observes the sad souls who waste money betting on sports and Keno day in and day out.
However, this initial feeling of warmth soon turns cold as socialization begins to resemble addiction. Eva is in this new place, and she thinks she would like to stay—but what if all her pub friends lead her into destructive, abusive behaviors? All are welcome at the Brighton, but Eva must decide for herself if this homey place is one of joy or tragedy.

CHAPTER 1
38022.pngIt’s three thirty in the afternoon. The sun is shining through the open windows. It’s the middle of the summer season and hot outside. A couple of bartenders, Natalie and Molly, are starting to get busy serving thirsty locals beer on tap. Eva walks in through the side door and sees Finley, who as usual sits in the corner. It’s named Finlay’s Corner for a reason.
Finlay’s friends are gathering on the empty seats around him, all ordering their particular type of beer: Pure Blonde, New, Carlton Draft, or VB. Every weekday, most of the regulars are here: Liam, Thomas, Ethan, Joel, Paul, Lucas, James, and Eva. Since most of them work from early hours, they finish in time to catch a few beers before going home. It’s a very strong tradition. Some things are not made to change. On the weekends, these locals arrive earlier, sometimes at nine in the morning, getting quite intoxicated by two in the afternoon, ready to finish their last beer in time to avoid most of the non-locals occupying more space and getting noisy.
Eva is not from Australia, and it’s been several years since she ended up on this continent. She was originally from the northern part of Europe. Most things are different here, including the lack of a long, rich history and the cultural monuments which surround you in Europe, and the rich food and wine culture that’s been with the people of Europe for centuries. Australia feels new in this sense. But there are other attractive factors, such as the immensity of nature, beautiful beaches, and turquoise-coloured ocean you can swim in at almost all times of the year. If you a surfer, you are in heaven. So in this sense, it’s interesting and fresh for Eva to live here. At least for a while; time will tell. The key is to get to know the people, the Aussies
