Study Guide for Road to Holiness
()
About this ebook
This study guide was written to help individuals and small groups to work their way through the ideas found in Tijs’ first book, Road to Holiness. There he outlines the spiritual journey from beginning to maturity as he found described in John’s Gospel. The writer of John’s Gospel says in Verse 20:31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. This study guide will help you to grow in your spiritual life, and at the same time, help prepare you for all the joys of Heaven. It will guide you to become a true spiritual brother, or sister, of the Lord Jesus here and now.

Introduction
Welcome to the start of a new journey for you. I commend you for being seriously interested in having a deeper and more personal relationship with the Lord of Life. The spiritual journey is not an easy road to travel down, but the rewards are beyond measure, very much out of this world, as well as a significant part of it at the same time. I have followed the same steps that are outlined in my book, Road to Holiness, moving through purgation, to illumination, to union, to the celebration of living the resurrected life here and now, as we await our mortal death and our resurrection into the fullness of God’s kingdom, commonly called Heaven. I hope and pray that you will enjoy the journey and work, even when it’s challenging to find your own answers. May the Holy Spirit work with you, and guide you, onto the personal path that the Lord would have you take.
Don’t be too concerned if your path doesn’t flow smoothly from one section to the next, as outlined here. Your journey may well cause you to deal with the various questions, or issues, in a different order. This is your living journey and relationship with Jesus, and it should never be reduced to a mechanical working through of any one process. This is only one template of what a spiritual journey might involve. Life can be messy, and that holds true for your spiritual life as well. Naturally, this has been true since our first fall from grace in the Garden of Eden. But I hope you will eventually discover that same wonderful intimacy that Adam and Eve had when they walked freely with the Lord in the Garden of Life in total nakedness, with no shame. May all shame, guilt, fear, and doubt, disappear from your life, as you learn to totally trust and love the Lord, who first created you and called you good. May you learn to walk in the garden of your life intimately with God, with a holy freedom and joy. May you discover more fully, the deeper mystery which is The Lord
, who can never be known absolutely and fully on this side of the great divide, mortal death.
This study guide was written to help people while they are reading my book, Road to Holiness, and who are interested in working out, on a more personal level, the main ideas outlined in that text. You are encouraged to read the Road to Holiness through completely and then after some time away from it, to go back and read a chapter at a time, to work your way through them with this book as a guide. Be sure to read and meditate on the relevant scripture in John’s Gospel, both before and after each reading of the chapter in Road to Holiness, as you do the study. You can do this study as a lone individual, or with a small intimate study group of people that you feel comfortable sharing with. I also suggest that you start a personal, private journal of your own thoughts, reflections and insights, as you progress through this study. Take time to meditate and pray about each section as you develop your journal. I encourage you to write your own short prayer in your journal
