About this ebook

Do you know who that person is that you lie next to at night is, or that person you call your father. In 1981, we discovered we had been living with a stranger. This was a very traumatic year for my family. After finding out who my father the Assistant Pastor really was, I was silent and guarded for a long time, I felt like I did not have a voice because I was so ashamed. I let all the disparaging things that happened in my life control me. I decided to take a step and tell a friend, then I told another, then my children. I realized I had a lot to say. God led me to take another step and share my life with others to help them understand that when you go through shock, pain, and disappointment you have even more to say and should reveal your pain so you can begin to heal.

    DEDICATION

    25882.png

I dedicate this book to the apostles, prophets, evangelists, teachers, and pastors, who teach the unadulterated Word of God. I thank God for all of you and ask that you continue to fulfill the purpose that God has placed inside you.

And he gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ:

    —Ephesians 4:11–12

    PREFACE

    27245.png

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

    —Hebrews 13:5

I did not realize it earlier, but this is a story that I was destined to tell. Although I silenced it for over forty years, there was a voice inside me getting louder and louder. It grew so loud that I knew it was time to tell it and the world needed to hear it.

The world has given me its share of trouble, but I am still here. It has attacked me in ways that I could not have imagined, but I am still here. Through the grace of God I am still here. I hope that my story gives hope to the hopeless, courage to those who have been beaten down, and strength to those who are tired.

I have traveled throughout the world; I have met some beautiful, spirited people but have also met some people who appeared tired, beaten by the world, and betrayed by those whose responsibility was to protect them. I say to them, Stand up. Keep your faith, for you are not alone. Although your body may be tired, you have an obligation, a duty to the next generation, to keep pressing forward.

I share my story with you and hope that it gives you strength. No matter how cruel the world is, know that you are never alone. My life story is an interesting one; at least I think so. It began in Jamaica, where my mother left me as a young child when she came to the United States to prepare a life for us. It is about my father, who escaped the volts of the electric chair not once but twice, to later be freed. It is about realizing that regardless of what you are going through, you are not alone, God will not leave you nor forsake you.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

First and foremost, I give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; I know that without him, this book would not be possible. I am grateful to my husband, mother, and children, who labored right along with me through my writing. Thank you for reading my manuscript as many times as I needed you to and for giving me words of encouragement.

A special thanks to my past Bishop and Pastor of seventeen years, who invested time in me by teaching and training me with what thus saith the Lord. I thank God for my bishop, who is an intelligent, forward-thinking, mighty man of God. My pastor, this woman
