About this ebook

Humanity has stepped at the beginning of the Water-Carrier Age’s threshold. Its influence is gradually being felt in all areas of life. This is the time for spiritual renewal and the turning point for the shifting of consciousness. Contrary to the period of mental bondage, prejudice, and religious bigotry, which was the Piscean Era characteristic, we are awakening to another chapter of human history, leading to the realization of the Oneness of life and the human race’s interconnectedness. The world is currently undergoing radical socio-economic and political upheavals because we are transitioning from one chapter of human history to another. Some religious leaders and sensationalistic New Age writers have taken these dramatic changes as signs of the end of the world. Contrary to that, this work postulate that the challenging events indicate the close of one chapter of human history and the beginning of a new one.

“We embrace and celebrate the coming of a new age of enlightenment, the awareness of human beings’ brotherhood.”

    About the Author

    Introduction

    In the year 2020, humanity has entered into the transitional period from the Fishes’ Age (aka Pisces) into the Water-Carrier Age (aka Aquarius). The following facts verify this assertion: On March 31, 2020, the planets Mars, Saturn, Jupiter reached almost exact conjunction at zero (0˚) degrees on Aquarius. Another cosmic omen reconfirms the above: Jupiter and Saturn’s exact conjunction at zero (0˚) degrees on Aquarius, which takes place on December 21, 2020 (Winter Solstice).

    The world is currently facing an unprecedented evolutionary challenge. We are witnessing the unveiling of the true nature of what we call objective reality. The understanding that we may be living in virtual reality. Our civilization is in the process of making a fundamental shift in consciousness. The past deterministic theories are being rendered obsolete by the advance of scientific knowledge, revealing that humans are the only agents responsible for their destiny. The theories of relativity and quantum physics offer new insights regarding the nature of the universe and the role of humans as creators of their external reality.

    The principle that animates and pervades the whole world is what may be called the universal life power. It is the engine of human development. It is the force that compels social, spiritual growth to advance toward the undreamed-of horizons. It is at the core of human evolution. Indeed, one could say that the only reality in the universe is consciousness — a global living mind — expressed in the physical realm as this universal intelligent life power. Hebrew tradition calls it Ruach Elohim, the spirit of God, and Hinduism calls it Brahman. In Greek, it is known as pneuma; in Latin, as spiritus, and in English, spirit. The Greek pneuma is rendered in English versions of the New Testament as Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. The German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel called it geist (spirit/ghost of ethos). These are merely different names for the same principle of life that possesses reason, will, and conscience. Life power is not blind mechanical energy but an intelligent and purposeful agent. It has created unicellular life forms such as bacteria and protozoa. In time they have evolved into complex multicellular organisms, including human beings. It continues to develop toward unforeseen horizons. I will elaborate more on this concept in the pages ahead.

    Throughout human history, people have conceptualized this life power through symbolic images, religious motifs, and philosophical theories. These are dynamic astral entities that develop along with the evolution of planetary consciousness. Many sociologists, philosophers, psychologists, and mystics agree that humankind’s history accounts for consciousness development through cosmic cycles. Ever since the great Greek philosopher Plato articulated the cosmic age concept commonly known as the Platonic Year, there has been much speculation about this subject. As we will see, religious historians, astronomers, astrologers, philosophers, and other scholars have written about it. But there has never been a clear conception about the cosmic ages, their lengths in time (i.e., their starting and ending points), or the characteristics proper of each epoch. These are the topics that this book will discuss.

    I am adopting the terms cosmosociology and zodiacal ages as accurate concepts to deal with cosmic ages in this work. Cosmosociology is a theory that attempts to demonstrate the existence of a direct correlation between a zodiacal age and the zeitgeist of a particular period in history. Zeitgeist is understood as the spirit of the time-specific characteristics that distinguish a specific period from the other zodiacal ages. Among these distinctions are general sociological ideas and religious beliefs that set the pattern of each particular ethos.

    I use the concept of "zodiacal age for three fundamental reasons: 1) to differentiate from the notion of astrological ages," 2) to distinguish from the general misconception that links the name of the constellations with the zodiacal ages, and 3) to name the zodiacal ages by the corresponding English names rather than the Latin ones. A zodiacal period corresponds to one of the twelve zodiacal signs.

    C.G. Jung suggested the notion that ideas possess people rather than people possess ideas. Indeed, ideas/thoughts have an autonomous existence as archetypal principles and are active elements in defining social situations. Predominant collective beliefs determine the spirit of the time of societies at large. Similarly, in general, large groups or entire countries and humanity can be possessed by ideas according to the epoch in which they live. I call these collective egregores. The egregores are psychic energy (vitalized thought-forms) that dwell in the collective subconscious layers; more of this in chapter two.

    As C.G. Jung pointed out, the unconscious mind has its own way of reasoning, which can be similar to consciousness’s ego-function. Suppose we are not aware of what drives our behaviors and beliefs. In that case, we can be easily assumed that we are possessed by these autonomous thoughts that dwell in the collective unconscious mind. Additionally, universal archetypes have an enormous influence on the formation of our psyches. They are the framework of the human mind, the basis for our particular ways of thinking, and our emotional and mental outlooks on life.

    Humans believe that they have ownership over their thoughts while the truth is the opposite: collective ideas and beliefs usually possess humans. We believe and take for granted our parents, teachers, mentors, and conventional wisdom taught us. Somehow, we are influenced or domesticated by the traditional knowledge (ethos) of the time and place we were born.

    Cosmosociology or Mondial astrology focuses on studying human consciousness’s evolution based on the cyclical zodiacal ages. The fundamental premise is that there is a meaningful coincidence between a zodiacal symbol and mass consciousness thinking in a particular period. This is evidence for the fact that there seems to be a resonance between the cosmic rhythms of the ages and social groups at large. The word cosmosociology can also be understood as a sociological discipline applied to the evolution of collective consciousness manifested synchronistically with the zodiacal sign of the time.

    Furthermore, quantum physics, epigenetics, and neuroplasticity (brain plasticity), among other scientific disciplines, conclusively have demonstrated the power of our thoughts over our bodies. They have also verified that the personal psyche is connected to the World Soul or anima mundi. In short, our understanding of the nature of reality has been dramatically shifted toward a new consciousness — a cosmic consciousness.

    New Thought pioneer Prentice Mulford (1834-1891), by intuition alone, concluded that thoughts are things, meaning that thoughts are a real force that influences tangible reality. That notion had an enormous influence on metaphysics and New Thought philosophy at the end of the 19th century. This idea is now entirely accepted by modern scientific discoveries. Consciousness plays a fundamental role in the creation of personal reality. Incidentally, quantum physics goes further, postulating that human observation affects outward fact observed. The observer’s subconscious beliefs somehow determine the human interpretation. Thus, it follows that collective thoughts and generally accepted ideas dictate the creation of a specific time and culture’s socio-economic realities.

    The principle of causality states that everything organic or inorganic extant in this universe is subject to a cyclical law of birth, growth, and decay. Likewise, a civilization rises from an older culture’s ashes to be superseded in time by another, higher civilization, having correspondence with the celestial omens.

    This is my primary hypothesis: the evolution of consciousness is expressed in the predominant sociological and religious ideas in the world’s leading civilizations, according to the time’s zodiacal age. In other words, one can explain the transformations of the major religions based on the symbolism corresponding to the zodiacal epoch. The theory of synchronicity provides solid metaphysical grounds to validate this thesis.

    I propose the concept of zodiacal ages to study the evolution of human consciousness through human history. Zodiacal periods offer a consistent approach for studying history in cyclical-spiral time based on the precession of the equinoxes. The zodiacal ages are phenomena that take place every two thousand years or so and are expressed in the world’s leading civilizations’ central belief systems and religious ideas. Along these lines, mythology scholars Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha von Dechend indicated that The greatest gap between archaic thinking and modern thinking is in the use of astrology.¹ Astrology was the universal language of ancient cosmology; it was the basis of all sciences, particularly astronomy.

    The collective unconscious is a repository of primeval images or archetypes that all humans share. The zodiacal signs are among these archetypes. They are universal principles or forces that resonate with and hence affect the human psyche and human behavior. Similarly, the seven traditional planets are related to the seven interior stars, or chakras (connected with the endocrine glands), located along the spinal cord.

    The ideas expressed in this book are endorsed by top-notch scholars in physics, depth psychology, ancient history, sociology, metaphysics, archeology, archetypical astrology, comparative mythology, and religion. As frequently as possible, I will quote scholars who are eminent in their fields to substantiate my ideas.

    C. G. Jung, H. P. Blavatsky, Sir Isaac Newton, de Santillana, a professor of the history of science at M.I.T., von Dechend, a professor of the history of science at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, and Dr. Paul Foster Case, founder of the Qabalistic organization Builders of the Adytum, are among those who have devoted special attention to the precession of the equinox and the cosmic ages.

    The precession of the equinox is understood as the slow retrogradation (backward movement) of the vernal equinox (aka spring equinox or vernal point) along the ecliptic (zodiacal band). This concept will be fully explained in pages ahead.

    The central idea of this book is that humankind is entering into a transitional period, from the Age of the Fishes (aka Pisces) to the Age of the Water-Carrier (aka Aquarius). The transitional period is defined as the twilight and dawn time that precedes and follows specific zodiacal ages.

    We are fortunate to be witnessing one of the most significant sociopolitical, technological, and religious transformations that the planet earth has ever undergone. Modern humankind needs to understand this fact, so we can be mentally and spiritually prepared to confront the upheavals entailed by these changes of cosmic dimensions. This is the time to realize and apply the ancient axiom, Man, know thyself. Indeed, this new dispensation’s fundamental purpose is to change the paradigm from a relationship with a far-distant God somewhere in the heavens to one of an indwelling God principle.

    The era of organized religion, as an intermediary between God and humans and as a means of social control, is coming to an end. Instead, we will be witnessing each individual’s direct spiritual connection with his or her Divine Self.

    This book attempts to provide a clear perspective on the universal changes taking place since the world entered the new millennium. The social and psychological crisis that modern humans are confronting is due to the lack of a central myth that can provide meaning and purpose at both the individual and the collective levels. In the Western world, the Judeo-Christian religion has lost power and influence as a spiritual inspiration source. Thus, it is imperative to redefine God’s concepts, humanity, and the universe based on the breakthroughs made in many scientific disciplines.

    The radical changes are occurring as we enter into a new dispensation.² These changes have been taken by some Protestant religious leaders and some New Age writers as indications for the end of the world. Something similar happened with the end of the Long Count of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012, which received a great deal of attention before it occurred. Although this date represented the closing of an epoch and the beginning of a new chapter in history, some sensationalistic New Age writers still insist on the idea of the imminent destruction of the world.

    These alarming predictions had a negative influence on the mass mind with broader consequences. Susceptible and uninformed people who believe in these unfounded prophecies are correct. They have a proclivity to subconsciously create unfavorable situations in their lives that have ripple effects on their families and society in general. And a group mind is an even more powerful device for materializing ideas. Thus, predictions of disaster create, at the very least, a pessimistic and depressing environment in mass consciousness, and at worst, may lead to negative consequences in the societies where they live.

    By contrast, this book attempts to demonstrate that the world’s present challenging situation is part of a natural cycle in human history. Political, socioeconomic, and religious upheavals are necessary adjustments for the entrance into a new worldwide order of social and economic justice, based on a higher level of international understanding and knowledge. Consequently, as I will argue, the present world crisis heralds the entrance into a transitional period: the ending of the Age of the Fishes and the slow dawning of the Water-Carrier Age.

    Although there is broad agreement that humankind is approaching this New Age, there is no consensus about the date of its commencement. Some authors say that the Age of Water- Carrier (Aquarius) started in 2000; other esoteric societies propose different dates.

    The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the Builders of the Adytum believe this epoch began in 1781, the year that planet Uranus was discovered. Jung suggested that the Water-Carrier Age would start in either 1997 or 2154. Other writers have posited different starting dates. Esoteric writer Edward Carpenter proposed 1936. Serge Raynaud de la Ferrière, founder of the Great Universal Brotherhood, advanced March 21, 1948. French astrologer Paul Le Cour asserted that the Age of the Water-Carrier would start in 2160.³ The American sleeping prophet, Edgar Cayce, predicted the beginning of the New Age would take place in 1998, and Mme. Blavatsky, 2156. In short, the dates suggested range from 1781 to 2160. Which one is correct? Determining that is one of the goals of this book.

    The fundamental cosmic phenomenon in establishing the dawning of the Water-Carrier Age is the precession of the equinoxes. The movement of the zodiacal signs and the planetary system provides the dates of past cosmic events with accuracy. They are not subject to human manipulation. Thus, past astronomical configurations can be traced with great exactitude through new computational calculations.

    There is confusion between the concepts of astrological ages and zodiacal ages; the first is based on the sidereal system and the other on the tropical system. They are two entirely dissimilar models. The misunderstanding of these terms has aroused much controversy among astrologers and academics. This mistake is because the zodiacal signs were named after the constellations.⁴ But as will be explained later, a constellation is not the same thing as a zodiacal sign. A correct understanding of these dissimilarities will give a proper appreciation of the zodiacal ages.

    To determine the beginning of the Water-Carrier Age, in addition, to the calculation via the precession of the equinoxes, I resort to complementary sources such as the Gregorian, Hebrew, and Mayan calendars as well as the Inca cosmology. They each have their own significance in determining the zodiacal ages. Incidentally, the ancients were well aware of the precession of the equinoxes, and they encoded their messages in myths and legends.

    Some readers will embrace the Water-Carrier dispensation notion with sympathy and enthusiasm; others will regard it with skepticism and scorn. Understandably, because so much nonsense has been written about these matters by charlatans and deceivers. Astrology, one-time sacred science, has been discredited and relegated to the level of fallacy or New Age hocus pocus. Therefore, a healthy skepticism about these issues is always appropriate. Simultaneously, I request skeptical readers to suspend their judgment about the ideas presented here until they have read and properly understood them.

    Two other concepts that need to be clarified are esoteric and occult. Often misunderstood, they are associated with black magic, sorcery, and similar practices. But I use these terms to refer to hidden knowledge or something that transcends ordinary understanding. Modern dictionaries define these terms concerning a body of religious traditions and practices preserved and performed outside organized religions. The word occult is derived from the Latin occultus, meaning hidden, while esoteric has Greek roots meaning further in. Authentic metaphysical organizations use these words to denote something that is hidden or beyond the untrained mind’s comprehension.

    Consequently, they refer to an esoteric tradition, metaphysical theosophy, to comprehend reality through metaphors and symbols. The fact that many people are not proficient in understanding subtle metaphysical principles does not mean that these should be associated with harmful practices. After all, the same argument could be made about physics, calculus, or other highly technical knowledge forms.

    Lastly, in this work, the term apocalypse is used in its Greek connotation, meaning disclosure of knowledge and uncovering a new reality. Thus, the primary meaning of the term apocalypse is a revelation. In metaphysical contexts, it is usually a discovery of something hidden. The last book of the New Testament, the Book of Apocalypse, refers to the revelation or disclosure of the ultimate victory of good over evil and presumably to the end of one zodiacal age. It has nothing to do with the commonly used about any prophetic revelation or so-called end of time scenario, or to the end of days, but to the unveiling of a new reality – the dawning of the Water-Carrier (Aquarius) Epoch.

    This book’s purposes are:

    1. To clarify and differentiate between the concepts of astrological ages and the zodiacal ages.

    2. To describe the parallels between the zodiacal ages and sociological, religious, and cultural changes in human history;

    3. To set an approximate date for the ending of the Fishes Age (aka Pisces) and the beginning of the Water-Carrier Age (aka Aquarius);

    4. To define the transitional period from the Age of the Fishes to the Water-Carrier Age;

    5. To demonstrate the prevalent archetype of a particular zodiacal age expressed in the religious and socio-cultural ideas of the leading civilizations of the world;

    6. To delineate the sociological and spiritual characteristics of the Age of Fishes (Pisces) and Water-Carrier (Aquarius) Era, and

    7. To outline the unfolding and implications of virtual reality in the Water-Carrier Age.

    An interesting aspect that deserves mention is that the date I arrived for the beginning of the New Age is 2154. This year is the same proposed by C.G. Jung and very close to the year projected by Madame Blavatsky, 2156. The staggering fact is that we came up with almost the same date from different methods and philosophical perspectives.

    This book addresses the crisis of an emerging new reality from a cosmological perspective that can help us creatively embrace the transitional period that humanity is facing nowadays. This work is a contribution to the understanding and acceptance of the oneness and solidarity of humankind. As these ideas start sinking into the collective psyche, individuals will create their realities oriented to humanity’s welfare. Thus, this book’s relevance is to provide positive and uplifting ideas to help people endure the transitional period’s crisis.

    Consequently, individuals as a whole will experience a leap in consciousness as they become aware of the true nature of humankind. The aim of human life is the development of higher levels of consciousness. We ought to be conscious participants in the development of our historical destiny. In this sense, the Biblical expression that God created humans in His image and likeness should be understood. Humans are indeed the Imago Dei.

    Lastly, this book represents the culmination of the basic ideas expressed in my previous books: The Dawning of the Golden Age of Aquarius and The Birth of a New Consciousness and the Cycles of Time.

    Principles

    Metaphysical wisdom and scientific knowledge have fully demonstrated the notion that the whole universe is interconnected and interwoven. A small Hermetic treatise entitled The Kybalion purportedly contains the essence of ancient Egypt and Greek wisdom; it describes the universe’s underlying laws of the universe. The book describes seven principles that constitute the fundamental laws that govern all creation at physical, mental, and spiritual levels. It is a master-key for students on occult and esoteric philosophy.

    The First Principle of the Kybalion is mentalism, according to which the ALL is MIND; the universe is mental.⁶ Supposed we live in a universe where everything is mental; in that case, the logical implication is that everything in this universe is in close relationship with all its parts. Thus, there is a symbiotic relationship between the macrocosm (world) and the microcosm (humanity).
