Chiron to the Rescue!
Self-help books are bought by millions of people all over the world. Newspapers and magazines are filled with articles on how to find inner peace. The second most popular topic is how to mend the broken places in our lives. Did you know that there is an astrological body whose main goal is to help you deal with your mental, emotional, and spiritual distress? Well, there is. It is called Chiron, and is a special member of the solar system, and though it is often spoken of as an asteroid, astronomers say it displays characteristics of both a minor planet and a comet, so the better term for it is “planetoid.” Discovered on November 1, 1977, is is often known as the “wounded healer,” a term coined by Carl Jung, the famed Swiss psychiatrist to describe psychoanalysts, but later adopted by astrologers to describe the nature of Chiron, based on the mythological figure after which it was named.
Chiron’s mythological story is one we all need to know, since it paints a very uplifting portrait of someone who suffered from fear and rejection, yet went on to become a healer in his own right. Chiron was a centaur, half-human and half-horse, fathered by the Titan Cronus with the nymph Philyra. His mother was appalled at his deformity and immediately rejected him, so he was taken in and informally adopted by the Greek god Apollo, who instructed him in the healing arts.
