    Author’s Note

    Dear Reader,

The contents of this book were written during some of my best and worst times. There were times I sat down my pen and walked away. This book was difficult to write and may be difficult to read. This book includes topics such as: abuse, rape, assault, mental illnesses, and other challenging topics. If you need to, put this book down. There is no shame in finding these subjects tough to read (even if you never battled any of them). Reach out to someone. There is no shame in getting help. It takes a lot of strength to reach out.

    You are loved.

    Letters to Heaven

    Laying on my bed

    Wishing I was with you.

    Crying into your shirt

    Wishing it wasn’t true.

    You went too soon.

    "‘Til death do us part"

Came a lot earlier than expected.

    You were an angel.

    So beautiful,

    Kind,

    Loving,

    And flawless

Maybe that’s why you had to go as early as you did.

    You held my hand

When I was just learning to walk.

You held me upright, made sure I didn’t fall.

You stayed beside me and directed my steps

Until you felt I could take my steps alone.

    Then you let go.

    You held my hand

When it was my first day of school.

Knowing I was just as terrified as you,

You walked me to the door and held me

Until I felt brave and said, You can let go now.

    Then you let go.

    You held my hand

When I went to all of my performances,

Even though I was a competitive kid,

I always got so nervous and scared.

You’d hold me and give me words of encouragement
