THE WAR RAGES ON
Raconteur:
Dark clouds covered the skies;
bodies lay decaying away in the streets;
a fetid and foul aroma filled
and
congested the air.
Above the horizon,
flares could be seen flickering
from the
bombardment
of bombs bursting.
The year was 1942.
Germany had already invaded Poland.
We were three years into the Second World War.
By the time the war had ended, an
estimated eighty-five million
people had
lost their
lives,
which was about 3 percent
of the world’s population in the 1940s.
The most sanguinary of savageries known
to humankind was
upon
us.
No one knew how long the
war would go on.
It seemed as if there was no
end in sight.
At that time,
the political leaders
were sinking in their own
political quagmire.
The chemist and the scientist grouped
together,
experimenting
and
concocting various chemicals,
forming
nuclear weapons.
Those of the ecclesiastical
order
did what they knew best:
they conjured up and
summoned the
powers
of God.
But it all seemed to no avail.
The war dragged on.
HACKING OUT OF AND
INTO THE SYSTEM
The sun rose.
The sun set.
Winters came and
winters
went,
and as the
war carried
on.
In secrecy
cloaked and daggered
in mystery,
a
council of three
convened.
They
were the brightest minds
the world had
never known.
They existed hermetically
and
walked among us in
surreptitious
secrecy.
They were considered
classified sleeper cells
of the CIA.
No one spoke of them,
and even
fewer
knew of their
