PREFACE
I was born on September 8, 1920 during a pandemic, The 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic and now I’m 100 years old and again I’m living through a pandemic, Covid 19 of 2020.
Yesterday was my 100th Birthday. I started this book in September of 2002 at the age of 82. I titled it The Depression….I know, I lived it
. This is my life story and I’m writing it so my children will know how life was in the 20’s, 30’s and etc. My children have been my life. The world has seen so many changes in my lifetime. This story will tell them some of the ups and downs their parents had. All that I will be writing about are things we really did. It was our way of life. Everyone lived the same way. We were poor but everyone else was too, so we really didn’t know we were. I had a good life. My mother loved me and my sister and brother. We never went hungry. Mother was strict and we knew when she said no
it meant just that. We never asked why
. We loved her dearly. Living today may present some challenges from day to day however, when you read this you will understand how fortunate you are to grow up in the era of today and in this country. Hard work, sacrifice, determination, love and respect, especially for your elders, can result in a beautiful life.
These stories in my book are an honest reflection of how I grew up.
I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did reflecting back on my early life.
I know things have changed in many ways and are much easier now. I have had a wonderful life raising my family with lots of love and guidance from God.
