My book AMOR, meaning "LOVE" in my native language of Portuguese, is a raw collection of poems written to reveal my feelings about struggles, resilience, forgiveness, survival, relationships, triumphs and of course LOVE. It is my heart and soul speaking. My poetry has also a cleansing effect within myself, it makes me connect with life and its nuances, and expands my being in all directions.

Elizabeth is a survivor. She overcame domestic violence, the suicide of her husband, and the knowledge that two of her children had been sexually molested by trusted family members. Through her poetry the reader will be taken into a journey of intense emotions. In times of great uncertainty, it is easy to feel disconnected from power, follow a path of self-destruction and blame others for potential misfortunes. Our true power resides in our ability to harness the power of love and express it by any means necessary. As a young child, I was fortunate to receive my Mother’s love through a myriad of ways. She drove all her children to give their time and resources to people who were in need. Her bedtime stories were always engaging and full of colourful detail, often about legends of the Amazon and its creatures. Washing the dishes was not a menial chore when she was involved, for she would keep our imagination engaged in a new game that she had just made up on the spot. Today, I witness the significant impact of my mother’s love in everything that she chooses to engage in.
