About this ebook

Concept of Time and God have drawn deep interest and attention of thinkers and philosophers. The book has 6 chapters; Book I “Time Immortal” is about timelessness of Time, and a hypothetical dialogue in imagery between Time and God. The chapter ends wondering:

“God is timeless, or Time is godless
No one knows, none can answer!”

Man’s intent to root out evil has been a running story of human failure. Mankind has not succeeded in suppressing demonic thoughts, any time; any better. Book II contains a metaphorical account of mythical fight between goddess Durga and demon Mahishasur, and reminds us:

“Moon cannot shine in the absence of sun,
Nor the clouds float without wind,
Man cannot survive without nature,
And god- concept without a fiend!”

Hindu scriptures say that the earth was resurrected from abyss of darkness. Book III “Resurrection” is about the rebirth of earth from the abysmal darkness.

It has been a dream or fantasy of man to create a heaven on earth. Book IV “The Endeavour” is on this theme. Book V “Divine Fusion” is about meeting of purush and prakriti, meeting of man and woman, and eternal love. Lastly Book VI “God Delusion” is as it suggests.

    To Poetry Lovers:

I have been writing poetry since 1986, publishing three Hindi Poetry collections, and one collection of English poetry which was published by Minerva Press in the year 2000. I was then engaged in scientific pursuits and published a book on hospital waste management sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India. My attitude took a turn thereafter and I published a book on socio-political issues, Indians in Mirror View of a Common Man, and one non-fiction book Karma, its Application and Relevance in day-to-day Life. My latest non-fiction Knowing the Self, Discovering the Mind, A Quest into Self-Identity is with the publishers and should be available by the end of this year.

The idea about the immortality of Time germinated in my mind about two decades ago and had been agitating my mind ever since. I kept thinking and confabulating about it, I slept and woke with it. Deep in my heart I felt that the concept of Time is subjugated to the concept of God whereas Time has been the witness to the primordial universe, The god -concept developed with man appearing on earth, which was a much later event; and therefore older than the god-concept. I have lived with this philosophical thought for long time. Finally, I self-published it with Cyberwit Publishers last year but for some reason I wanted to republish it, and the result is in your hands.

I know I am not an accomplished English poet; I do not have much idea about different styles, but I think expression is not, or should not be bound in a style. Recently, poets have been experimenting with different types and I selected the ‘free-verse’ style for this poetry book. You will find that the breaks are not captive of lines and words but of thoughts and ideas.

I sincerely hope you enjoy reading the poem, and it titillates and leaves some thoughts in your mind. The soul of poetry is not the words but the thoughts, embedded. Words are only a partial reflection of what lies beneath!

I shall be privileged to have your reflection or comments if you care to share with me.

    Dedication

In the memory of my Father - a

candlelight in the journey of my life

    Book I

    Time Immortal

Through the veil of abysmal darkness

    Infinity smiles on Finitude;

    The sky showers blessings, and

Flowers take colours in different hue.

    Thoughts and ideas acquire wings

    Where dreams take to reality

And, on the ethereal strings of the

    Violin nature makes music divine;

But gets lost under dark umbrella,

An apparition of life and mortality.

The Shadow of death embraces all, and

Sparkling wine in the dark cellar

Remains capped for eons, to take

Birth time and again; a running battle

    Between life and death!

    Time in womb! Unblemished

Carrying no sin on its wide shoulder,

Enveloping the whole of the universe

Within its orb, night, and day,

    Time monads in multitude, hovering

Over fate, and writing man’s destiny

    Always pulsating, not giving birth,

    Creates ripples and ethereal vibrations

In ever-changing vast universe, which arose

    From never changing absolute!

Pulsating Time creates waves in space

Witness to past, straddles the present

Holds the future in its copious folds!

    Time, in its measured pulse,

Charts the present, writes the future

    On cavernous mounds of space,

    Like transmitting towers, throwing

    Pulsating energy waves, unseen, but felt;

Stands still on the estuary, watching

The flow of rivers, churning of oceans, beneath.

Time throws tall waves in the ocean

Of nothingness; to the material world

    Stencilling mountainous steps of progress

Mankind traversed in millennia of existence!

    Time was there
