About this ebook

“What Should You Do With Your Life?” is an open minded, practical and sincere approach to one of the most profound and life changing questions you will ever ask yourself. It guides you in a honest, unbiased and relevant way through the practical aspects of deciding what path to take on life’s journey. What sets this book apart is the multi-faceted approach, and the tough, often uncomfortable questions and issues that are explored.

A career isn’t just a job. It’s a lifestyle choice – a choice that can be overwhelming at any age, let alone at the start of one’s adult life, when personality and ideas are still developing. This book helps you to consider important variables, that one often does not even think about in the post school/final examination euphoria. Needless to say, unfortunately, choosing the wrong career can, and has had disastrous consequences in some instances.

It is essential reading for anyone deciding on a career path post school, or seeking to change careers later on in life. If you are restless, and feel that you are not where you should be in life; or if you have ever pondered – “ What should I do with my Life?’’; or ‘What should my child do with his/her Life?’; then this book is for you.

Author

Isai Reddy

Dr Reddy is an Anatomical Pathologist who has excelled throughout her career. She watched herself and other colleagues, despite reaching the pinnacle of their careers, become disillusioned with their jobs. This was primarily on account of inappropriate career choices based on scholastic achievement, and the subsequent expectations of family and society. It was also due to changing needs and expectations as life progressed. Dr Reddy believes that this is a common occurrence, with far reaching consequences, that can easily be avoided if we focus on personality fit, soul choices, lifestyle preferences and other relevant variables before choosing a life path. She believes that this is especially important at this time, due to more high functioning and sensitive energies in our younger generations.

    INTRODUCTION

Visualise your dream in detail, energize it,

and it will materialize into reality.

Choosing a career might seem like a simple matter of what you enjoy doing or what interests you the most. It is not. In fact, this is an extremely simplified assessment of a complex and life-changing decision. The more time you take and the more key variables you consider, the better will be the final outcome, in terms of personal satisfaction and fulfilment.

This process is one which will significantly impact the rest of your life. It is well worth the effort. It need not necessarily be done at the beginning of one’s tertiary academic or post-school stage of life. Although it may save time and disappointment if done at this stage, it could make a crucial impact at any stage. In fact, everyone should do this type of life review and ponder these questions at least every five years, to ensure that one is on the right path to live the best life possible.

There are countless unexpected detours that can send us on seemingly uncontrollable trajectories in our lives. It is of paramount importance to step back and reassess, lest you find yourself in a place you would really rather not be. Furthermore, our ideas, values, and needs are anything but rigid and static. We change as we grow and interact with the world. Life happens and expectations change. In fact, the whole point of living is to learn and grow spiritually, so it’s only natural that your thoughts and expectations are very different at 40 years of age compared to 20 years. Some people are fortunate enough to understand themselves and choose their careers suitably right off the bat, but we aren’t all so lucky. Lack of opportunities, financial restrictions and other factors may keep some from pursuing their heart’s desire early in life.

If you do have financial commitments and responsibilities—such as student
