About this ebook

This book is about the liturgy of the Malankara and Syriac Orthodox Churches of India and the Middle East, for children ages 4 – 8 and even older. It is quite natural for children to be curious about and fascinated by the sights, sounds and fragrances they encounter in the Holy Temple during the Holy Qurbono. It is intended to help children learn some of the more common words and names of items that are used in the Liturgy, in English, in Malayalam (the language of Syrian Christians in India), and in Aramaic Syriac (the language of Jesus). My First Holy Qurbono Words is a little book with words that even a young child can quickly learn, and one that may be brought to church every Sunday to help children experience and understand the Liturgy while it is being celebrated.

Gita George-Hatcher

Gita S. George-Hatcher was brought up in India in the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. She moved to the United States to finish her education and worked for many years in the areas of Human Resources and Labor Relations. When her husband was ordained a priest, she worked with her husband to establish and nurture the first completely English speaking Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in the United States. Gita Kochamma as she is known in the Church, has taught Sunday School for over 30 years and has always had a passion for sharing this unique liturgical tradition with its origins in the Aramaic Syriac culture of the earliest Christians, and handing it down to children of all backgrounds including those of the Malayali and Suriyani diasporas. Gita Kochamma serves with her husband Corepiscopos Fr. Michael Hatcher at St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Spokane, Washington.
