    PREFACE

This book is about leadership. The objective of this book is to share knowledge of leadership with readers. The best knowledge is shared knowledge. The author is glad to continue sharing humble knowledge of leadership with those who are able to read this book and may benefit from it.

The author hopes that this book will guide those who are inspired or interested in examining the knowledge of leadership and those who hold leadership positions in their various communities at large. The author’s interest in writing this book stems from the current situation of leaders and leadership within Muslim communities, which led to the rise of misguided brothers in our communities and the world at large. Faith in Islam also influences the writing of this book. Being a Muslim and cherishing Islamic values is vital irrespective of one faith. The author strongly argued that there was a lack of ethical caliber of leaders within the Ummah (Muslim communities), which has led to the rise of misguided groups within the Muslim communities, the so-called (terrorists), as noted above in this book. The most excellent example of leaders for humankind who ever lived in this world is Prophet Muhammad (PBHM), followed by his guided Caliphs and some pious Muslim and non-Muslim leaders who were an example to follow. Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Gandhi, and Mother Theresa serve their people with courage and integrity. In this book, the author strongly argues that if we want to see the most excellent example of a leader who has ever lived, we should not look far but to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how he established a City-State in Madinah after fleeing Makkah were the enemies of Islam persecuted him for his beliefs. During his leadership, the Helpers (Ansar) and the Migrants (Muhajirun) became one, to the extent that some were willing to divorce their second wives so that some of their helpers could marry them. Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) moral character is a shining example for all Muslim leaders and non-Muslims. Allah sent him as a mercy to Humanity. See Surah Al Ambiya (21:107), And We have sent you (O Mohammad (PBUH) not but as a mercy for the Alamin (mankind, jinn and that exist). Thus, Allah is the source of leadership, and the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophets, starting from Adam (PBUH) to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is the content of leadership, and leadership is defined in this book as selfless servitude purely for the pleasure of Allah, the leader, and the followers have mutual interest.

    Who is this book for?

This book is for all who are inspired to be true leaders and followers purely for the pleasure of Allah.

    CHAPTER 1

    Leadership

    Introduction

This book examines leadership’s general and also educational perspectives.

Leadership as a concept has been discussed and written by many scholars and practitioners of leadership throughout the history of humankind and civilizations. Many generations after generation, as well as societies, try to find answers as to what makes a good, ethical and moral leader and effective leader, and today similar questions are being asked, and there is no short answer to this question of leadership. The author argues in this book that for us all to understand leadership, we have to go back to the reason for God’s creation of humankind and, at the same time, examine the source and content of leadership, which is the Quran, Sunnah of Prophets from Adam (PBUH) to Muhammad (PBUH) and the guided Caliphs and pious leaders in the history of humankind.

The writing of this book is to share the author’s leadership knowledge. Knowledge sharing is essential for humanity. The question of leadership, whether ethical or not, is fascinating. Unfortunately, many scholars and practitioners of leadership have yet to develop a universal definition of leadership. There are many sides to it. To some, leadership is a quest for esteem and prestige,
