    Introduction

Growing up, I always had a book in my hands. When I get older, I transition from reading to reading and writing; here, I discovered the sheer pleasure of writing out my thoughts, quotes, or things I wanted to remember for a long time. I follow this same process in my devotional life. I read, write, and draw. I tried to have meaningful devotion with just reading my Bible, but I found that I wasn’t satisfied with the result. I wanted to do something that would imprint the words and the experiences I had with God in my mind for the rest of the day. This imprinting was achieved with my process of reading, writing, and reflecting with creativity. As I have explained at many workshops, reading the Bible was like listening to God, while writing was for hearing what he is speaking to us. Writing during our devotional time allows us to develop an intimate conversation with our Creator.

As I matured in my faith, I struggled during any forty days of fasting. I want to do, feel, and accomplish something different after forty days. In the past, I could get all of this from my regular devotion to reading and writing, but as the Bible says, When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. (1 Cor. 13:11 NIV) I needed more, and I found more when I expand my journaling to include various activities such as planning, tracking, drawing, etc. All these activities keep me longer in the Words of God and satisfy my spiritual growth and mindset.

I am sharing this process that allows me to accomplish a unique forty-day journey each year. The Lent or any forty-day journey can be powerful if we can practice spiritual discipline beyond just reading a devotion and prayer. This journal will take your time in God’s presence to another level. It allows you
