Us/Nosotros: Immigrant Musings/Reflexiones De Emigrante
()
About this ebook

Us/Nosotros - Rodrigo Díaz Carrillo
EL LOBO PERDIDO
A somandome hacia adentro
y algunas veces,
cuando la luz brilla en mi día
-pretendo,
y les hago compañía
Pero,
las rocas volcánicas no encajan
entre una pared de granito
Las yerbas no adornan el césped
aunque sean verdes también
Así que, levantando mis trebejos
Me voy
Distante, alejado
Apartado del rebaño
el lobo se alimenta de flores,
y de estrellas del río
SHE SANG
H ouses scattered
Cattle ruminating
One legged hens inside chicken coops
Adobe houses with flickering flames in the dark
But there was music in the air
The corral clean
People about the dancing floor
Chairs, two kerosene lamps on a center table
Tree stumps as seats against the rock fence
Women sat, men, wide-brimmed hats
The moon, the stars
Two guitars
Two violins
One huge bass
Ranchers fingers on the strings
He stood, enthralled, as she sang
She sang
Alongside the music she sang
Agape, he
Couldn’t forget her figure and her voice for days on end
Later, us, we
(generations)
The world smaller
In droves wandered
Hung on those chords
Guitars, violins, bass
The echo of her voice
and his heart
ELLA CANTÓ
C asas desparramadas
Ganado rumiando
(generaciones)
El mundo pequeño
Dondequiera andamos
Colgados de esos acordes
Guitarras, violines, tololoche
El eco de su voz
y su corazón
THE STONE
O nce, when I was young,
coming back from log fetching,
(my burro ahead of me carrying the load)
I kicked a stone laying on my path
I kicked it and kicked it ahead of me
for miles on end,
till I got home,
and unloaded the burro,
and fed it,
and went into the house and rested,
and forgot about the stone;
and went about my days,
and went about my weeks,
and went about my months,
and went about my years,
and went about my life,
and, guess what?
I recently realized
that even though the stone was forgotten and idle
somewhere thousands of miles away,
somewhere in the good old country,
somewhere about the old village’s house,
I’m still kicking that stone
y me olvidé de la piedra;
y así pasaron mis días,
y así pasaron mis semanas,
y así pasaron mis meses,
y así pasaron mis años,
y así pasó mi vida,
y ¿sabes qué?
