Angela Anwyl
Angela Anwyl has worked as a Primary School teacher, a Primary Headteacher and an Educational Consultant, having taught in both Canada and the UK. Eager to share her love of words and books with her grandchildren, Angela enjoys creating stories for them. She took up writing children’s stories as a way to remember their favourites. All her stories have been written for, and inspired by these five - her fiercest critics. It must be said that the youngest ones do not always appreciate her use of artistic license to veer from the absolute truth. They are however become very adept at editing the stories and requesting changes.

CHAPTER 1
Another New School
O n a grey, dismal morning in January, the two sisters made their way through the lanes of Bakewell and up the hill that led to what was to be their new school, Ladysmith School. They were both a little bit anxious. After all this would be their third school in as many years and many questions flitted through their heads. Would the other pupils like them? Would they make new friends? Would they be able to do the work? Rachel, who was eleven, remembered how hard it had been when she had started at Hilltop School. The other children there had really disliked her until……….well, until.
Astrid, her twelve year old step sister was thinking along similar lines. She thought back to how mean all the children had been to Rachel when she had joined their class. Of course, that was before they knew.
The two girls and their parents, Professor and Mrs Smith-Hyde had only recently moved to the pretty market town of Bakewell. Pops and Mims, as the parents were known had jobs in the Universities in nearby Sheffield. They had all moved up from their previous home in Kent having been there for just over a year. Before that, Astrid and her mum and dad had lived in Cumbria, which was where they had first met Rachel. They all hoped that this would be their last move, that they would be safe at last.
The family had bought a pretty house that sat right at the edge of the park in Bakewell. It had an unusual name, Palings, that the girls were most curious about.
Arriving at Ladysmith, the girls reported to the school office.
