I Am Barbara
Getting off exit 98 from off of HWY 95, south…
I am returning home to the country of my birth,
In these United States of America, it’s called South Carolina.. Turning on to exit 98, it’s as if I went back in time, as if time stood still here, as I merge into the town, I do see something’s a new, a traffic light and Band name Motels mmm, the strip has really grown up. The entire amenity for a weary traveler could need when a rest area won’t do. But yet, there’s cleanliness about it, the kind you can walk with your shoes off, and not be worried about broken glass. The Blue sky, the bellowed clouds that move so slowly and change into shapes, haha there’s one shaped like a hand pointing its finger, pointing me to the way home, straight ahead.
As the song says, the long and winding road that leads to your door, you left me waiting here such a long, long time ago. Don’t leave me waiting here lead me to your door. As the road drives me back in time, I could still call the names of to whom these houses be long, but I guess now it would be their grandchildren, or even great-grands. How proud the spirits of the old ones must be, to see the wooden shacks transform into fine brick houses and well kept lawns and shapely hedges…Gone are the days of sweeping the yard with Shaw brooms
