About this ebook

Tanzania has come a long way since Deogratius Nsanzugwanko was sitting in an airport and saw four unusual business-class passengers scurry across the terminal.
When he saw the big rats, he felt a sense of shame as they did not even wait until the terminal was empty to make their passage. It was their territory, and they knew it.
But the recent accomplishments at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, terminal 2, and the newly constructed terminal 3 in Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania, have instilled a new sense of pride in the country’s people.
In this book, the author examines how the airport has been so vastly improved while also sharing his observations about airports throughout the world.
He also highlights what life is like as a whole in Tanzania, seeking to find out why the country is one of the poorest and why the government was mismanaged for so long.
Join the author as he takes a critical look at major economic issues, governance, and politics, using the international airport as a case study of progress in Tanzania.

    About the Book

    Foreword

Deogratius Nsanzugwanko is a passionate novice writer who has chosen to share his memoirs chronicling the last ten years and the trips he has made abroad, within Africa and outside the continent. He shares what caused him to travel and what he was doing on his travels. He also shares the good and the bad things he has seen and forecasts what will bring change for the better of humankind both in his country, Tanzania, and the rest of the world. Chapter 1 is about his travels from Africa to Europe. In chapter 2, he talks about elections and governance. Election observations are discussed in chapter 3. In chapter 4, he gives a narrative of his travel to the UK and makes his case for the monitoring and evaluating of projects. He also discusses the emergency situation of handling elections in India and the development attained here, as well as all the strengths in fighting to achieve excellence in world competition in tourism, infrastructure development, and agriculture. Other chapters discuss violence and risk mitigation, as well as economic thoughts about how we could be manning our corporate businesses, such as trains, tourism, and mining. He insists on having a positive attitude when it comes to customer-to-business relationships (and vice versa).

    Acknowledgments

This book is the product of my own memory. However, it includes the experience and wisdom of literally hundreds of colleagues, family members, friends, and others. I am unable to mention them, but they have all sparked the energy I needed to finish this book and are highly appreciated. The writing skills and choice of topics are the sole responsibility of the author, although the editors of the manuscript have played a significant role in rephrasing sentences and rearranging the content.

I also acknowledge the profound and outstanding contribution made by iUniverse in framing and editing the manuscript and for their constructive input. I also thank friends and family members for their even criticism and editing of the manuscript.

I would be selfish if I did not mention three of my writing motivators for their tireless inspirational skills.

Terri Savelle Foy, for her inspirational YouTube lectures.

Ernest Boniface Makulilo, for his Facebook Live conferences, inspiring most of his friends and acquaintances to start writing even one book.

Tanya Pergola (author of Time Is Cows: Timeless Wisdom of the Maasai), renowned yoga trainer and an anthropologist, for her inspiration about book writing.

Former vice president of Botswana, David N. Magang, who retired from politics and became an entrepreneur and author, for his inspirational act of going from statehouse elite to author.

Last but not least, advocate Ipilinga Panya, for chipping in with advice when the publishers asked me to amend the book title.

From Julius Nyerere International Airport to Carthage De Tunis

Between November 12, 2005, and November 20, 2005, I traveled from Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) to Tunis (Tunisia) to attend the World Summit on Information Society, Phase II, whose theme was bridging the digital divide between the developed and least developed countries and their citizens. I received my invitation in French, which read as follows:

La table-ronde est prévue le 16 novembre à 16h.

A cette occasion, nous sommes heureux de vous inviter à participer à cette table ronde et, plus généralement, au SMSI.

Votre billet d’avion à destination de Tunis et votre hébergement sur place seront financés par nos soins.
