About this ebook

Amalia, a young student, gets her break as a reporter and naively sets out to the distant Sea Green Forest to interview the infamous Jonathan as her very first assignment. But, when she finally meets Jonathan, she discovers that the task to get the full story, what it’s like to be the very last unicorn, is far more mystifying than she ever expected. While Jonathan’s baffling appearance, zen-ish habits and overall quirky outlook on life make for humorously awkward and unforgettable moments, between the two, an unexpected bond forms as the story depicts the power of adaptation and acceptance.

    Foreword

U nicorn, by definition, is a mythical creature typically represented as a horse with a single horn protruding from the forehead and sprinkled with patches of rainbow colors. Something highly desirable, but difficult to obtain and theoretically valuable in its rarity. I am privileged to report, dear readers, that I have found one such unicorn on a journey through this text. This unicorn being the author herself: Amalia Tsampalis.

Amalia encourages us to see the magic within ourselves and to infuse that into the changes that life presents to us in order to adapt. She reminds us that preconceived ideas, stereotypes, self-doubt, and lack of acceptance of how creatures should and can be, limits our thinking and ultimately impacts our survival. That in fact, powers and strength can come from unexpected places within us. Whether that be a horn, a tail, or a humble and feeble human heart.

As our protagonist realizes her own strengths and abilities through her journey, it has been pure magic observing Amalia do the same. She reminds us that as long as we are willing to allow for growth, much like the changes endured by nature, we can survive.

Keep an eye on this unicorn. Enjoy discovering her. Watch as she adapts as a writer, thinker and creator. Uni-, by definition means, Having or consisting of one and as we all embark on our journeys to discover the unicorn within ourselves, Amalia has reminded us that perhaps our search should be, Having or consisting of us. Our unicorn has added variety to our literary pallets through her colorful voice. Maybe even rainbow colors. What true magic to encounter a unicorn amongst my herd of students. One that most definitely has magic protruding from her forehead. Whose writing is sprinkled with patches of rainbow. Whose writing is highly desirable and most definitely valuable in its rarity.

T he train was as crowded as ever. My knuckles were turning white as I gripped my backpack intensely to help keep me steady on the cramped train. Scanning all the faces around me, it was clear that no one actually wanted to make eye contact with each other. Everyone just stared off somewhere else as if there was a mutual agreement that we would all pretend that we were alone. To be honest, I really didn’t know where I
