About this ebook

Are you creating a monster? Or, are you raising your child to become a responsible adult? In Parenting the Bible Way, author Sherry Ronke reveals the Biblical principles behind child rearing.

In this guide, she tells how, instinctively, you, as a parent, are already equipped to take care of your offspring. However, Ronke demonstrates how you need to recognize there is a devil working hard to prevent children from excelling in every good work. Parents need to understand the godly principles of how to raise children and apply them as they bring up their young.

Sharing the story of her experiences with parenting, Ronke offers an informative guide for Christian parents who seek advice about Bible-based child rearing. Exploring many issues related to raising children, Parenting the Bible Way employs a variety of scriptures to guide moms and dads charged with caring for their child’s spirit, soul, and body, helping them to become mature adults who are gifts to the world.

    Author’s Note

When we are committed to a lifestyle of dependency on God in all that we do, the Holy Spirit takes over and holds our hands every step of the way. There is no book big enough to hold or contain all the necessary steps and guidelines given to us by the Holy Spirit as He walks with us in achieving our goals. It will be volumes and volumes of books if these were to be written, and so this write up does not claim absolute knowledge of how to raise children using the biblical principles. It is the writer’s suggestion that whatever knowledge the readers may gain from reading this book, should be used as a seed. If allowed in the readers’ heart, the Holy Spirit will water the seed for increase. As the inner tuition is applied in child rearing, the children will turn out a true heritage of the Lord (Psalm 127:3) who will make the world a better place and go on to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives and for the kingdom of God.

    Chapter 1

    Introduction

    28181.png

The world after the fall of man in the garden of Eden could be describe as a fallen world due to the curse placed on the ground (Genesis 3) by God. Naturally, whatever is left unattended will go from good to bad and bad to worse, order to disorder, beautiful to ugly. In short, things don’t get better on their own. It takes constant attention and care to keep our lives in order. We engage in constant maintenance culture to keep our properties and materials in good shape. For example, if you keep a machine or a car unattended to for several years, at some point it will become a useless garbage without value. If we don’t keep our yard groomed, the whole property will soon be overgrown with weeds and bushes that will invite dangerous animals to pay us visits. There is a biblical way to handle each aspect of our lives including raising our children.

Raising our children the bible way should be as normal as anything else in our lives. As Christians, our lifestyle should generally, be the bible way, and raising our children should not be different. Nothing in our lives should be done against the will of God. Abraham was good at it such that God said that He trusted him to bring up his children in the way of the LORD. Gen. 18:19. We should really sit back and reflect on the above comment by God Almighty about the man Abraham and ask ourselves this question, Can God say the same thing about me today?

Raising children cannot be done successfully by just relying on the arm of flesh. The arm of flesh will always fail Jer. 17:5. For by strength shall no man prevail.1 Sam. 2:9. Relying on Godly principles as written in the bible will ensure success. If we experience problem in child upbringing, we can apply the wisdom of God and Christ has been made wisdom unto us. This assures us of great result. We should apply spiritual principles at every stage. A child may grow up physically and not mature in other aspects. You can have a forty-year old person who still behaves as a teenager. We have a job to do to make our children responsible and mature adults who will become real sons and daughters that are sound all round.

The first thing to do in caring for children is to yield them under the loving care of Jesus Christ, by faith. It takes time, effort and living up to the responsibilities. As much as your effort is important, the enablement of Christ you continually receive and the inspiration from the bible will help to do a stress-free job at it. Except the Lord builds the house, the laborers labor in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchmen waketh but in vain. Ps.127:1

With that said if you have not known Jesus, this will be a good time and a unique opportunity to invite Him into your life. Having a relationship with Him is necessary if you must get Him involved in the affairs of your life. Simply ask Him to come into your life as your Lord and Savior If you have done that, begin to study the bible to know this Jesus intimately. John 17:3, John 3:15-16. The more you know Him, the more you are willing to commit your children into His care and the earlier you will introduce your children to Him.

You can now begin your physical training and let Him begin to lead you. The job of raising children is daunting and ineffective without God’s guidance. Paul may plant Apollo may water, increase is of the Lord. 1 Cor.3:6. When you involve Christ, He will be the one doing the job while using you as instruments in His hands. Committing to Him is not the same as laziness or a neglect of your responsibilities. It just means that we realize that we have an enemy (Satan) who is seeking to destroy us in any way possible, but that we have a Father and a Savior who not only causes us to triumph on daily basis but also willingly perfects all that we commit into His hands.

Training under the leadership and guidance of God could be likened to the good ground in the parable of the sower. Matt.13.Some yield 30%, 60%, and 100%. What makes the difference in the yield? Reading through the whole chapter, it will be noted that Jesus was stressing hearing God. The difference will be in our hearing ability, and being able to follow His instructions consistently. So, get to work and be ready to yield to the leading
