About this ebook

This book tells of a possibility—what if the American colonies never won independence in the American Revolution? This story tells the tale of four girls. While they were in the middle of the woods, something strange happens, and they are allowed to time travel. They decide to time travel to the American Revolution (in this timeline, the war is known as the Rebel’s War) to change the past and make it so that America won its independence. Will they be able to change the course of history, or is that just wishful thinking?

Anapaula Seidel

I’m 13 years old at the time of writing The Rebel’s War. I was born in Florida, have lived in Brazil, but now I live in Colorado. I'm in the 8th grade at this time. I speak two languages, English and Portuguese. My favorite ice cream flavor is Salted Caramel, (personal preference). And my favorite color is Aqua, (Again, personal preference). In my meantime, I usually write stories, read, and draw. I chose to write this story because I wanted to write about what I think would happen if the American colonies never won independence. I always think about alternate history and think of all the possibilities that could’ve happened. My mind can go crazy sometimes.

    Prologue

In a place that’s known as America by the people who lives there, lies 12 colonies that belongs to the British Empire. During an attempt to break away from the empire, General George Washington, the Commander-in-Chief of the continental army, had to surrender his army and forces to the British Army in the winter of 1777-1778 while his army was at Valley Forge because of the food and clothing and shoes shortage, and the mass loss of soldiers to continue the fight in the spring.

Immediately after the war, which was named the Rebel’s War, the British established a punishment that is still inflicted on the colonies by the time our story starts, called the Forge.

The Forge occurs in the summer, in late June or early July. The Forge is when each colony, newly named Colony 1 for New Hampshire or Colony 2 for Massachusetts or Colony 10 for Virginia and other colonies randomly selects a child between the ages of 10 and 15 from each colony, to travel to England. When they arrive, they will be placed inside a building where it serves as an arena. The tributes fight for their lives, until they die. The others can be killed by mostly the others that finds hidden weapons around the building. The Forge goes on until only one winner remains alive.

At the end of the Rebel’s War, the British Empire decided to completely kill off Georgia, or known as Colony 13. The reasoning is so the Empire can make example of the colony to show the other colonies what would happen if the colonies ever rebelled again. Also, the Forge does not occur in any other colonies, like India or Canada, just the American colonies, but not for too long.

    Chapter 1

In the summer of 1855, during the 75th Forge, I get an idea while watching the Forge. We watch the Forge by a government assigned projector that broadcasts the Forge live for all of us to see. We have to watch the Forge; it’s mandatory. While my friends and I were at my house, watching the Forge together, I get an idea.

    Hey guys? I say.

    Yeah. Dizzy responds.

If Olivia can hunt for food in the woods, why can’t we start hunting, too? I propose.

Hunting is Olivia’s job. She’s really good at it, unlike us. And we trade for her meat already. Katty comments.

Can’t we try to hunt just for one day? I ask.

Yeah, that’s a good idea. Alex says. Besides, we won’t need to trade for the meat that we find.

Yeah, but Olivia is able to get past the soldiers guarding the entrance of the forests, we aren’t. Dizzy says.

We’ll just find an entry that has no soldiers patrolling. I say, with hope.

That could be a possibility. Katty says.

So, are we going or not? Dizzy asks.

    Yeah. Alex answers. We can.

    Then it’s settled. I say.

We live in Colony 10. I heard that about 80 years ago, this place was called Virginia, but that was a different world then it is now. My name is Iara Washing-ton. I’m 16 years old. I have brown hair and brown eyes and I always use my hair in a single braid. Katty Adams is a fashionista, you could say that. She loves making clothes for us. She doesn’t talk a lot on our conversations. Katty has brown hair and silver eyes and she always has her hair down. Katty is also 16 years old. Dizzy Freeman is a girl who will do things her own way and doesn’t wait for other people to take action. Dizzy has dark blond hair and brown eyes and she always wears her hair in a low ponytail. Dizzy is 15 years old, but her birthday is pretty close. Alex Mason is the risk taker of the group. She loves exploring places. She can build machines that are unthinkable for today’s day and age in technology. She actually made a washing machine that washes clothes for us. That’s why Dizzy, Katty and I take our laundry to her. Alex has red hair and golden eyes. Alex is also 16.

    Next day…

Its morning now and we all decided to meet at my house because it’s the closest to the woods. I’m bringing my bow and the arrows inside a quiver Alex made for me. My dad and I made the bow together when he was alive. I was 12 years old when my dad died of a flu epidemic happening at the time. Isabel, my sister, and I also got the flu, but we survived. I heard that thousands of people died that winter because of the epidemic.

We avoid as many people as we can as we make our way to the woods. Once we get to the edge of the woods, we
