JACKIE FRENCH’S CHALLENGE

SOPHIA looked at me and said: “I like these . . . can we try them?” Our latest guest was a rather adventurous 20 year old German woman in Australia for a gap year. She’d bought a car and was in the second month of venturing around this strange country on the opposite side of the road (on her own!) and now wanted to climb a tree.

It had all started was delivered in early June. She became entranced by Jackie French’s ‘Ten Rescue Remedies for a Lop-Sided World’ on page 24. “I’m here for adventure,” she said, and I thought, “Why not?” It was a fine day; we had four hours before sunset, and we had all the ingredients at hand.
