Prologue.

Probably, many people remember the alien Alf, who crashed near the planet Earth and crashed into the garage of the Tanner family. But behind the scenes remained Alf's mission, with which he went into the vastness of the galaxy. It is known only that his planet exploded, but few people know that a similar fate awaits our planet. The process of the death of the human race is already near. The first symptoms of this are Russia's attack on Ukraine and the declaration of war on the entire civilized world. Constantly in Russian news there are threats to bomb London, Paris, Washington, Madrid and Warsaw with nuclear missiles. Also the unification of authoritarian regimes is leading the planet to the next world war. The biggest, the worst and the last. This is the end of human history. This is the result of Alf's aborted mission.

The new tenants of the Tanner house find a logbook in Alf's spaceship and secretly, with the help of a modern powerful military computer, they manage to decipher the text of the logbook and learn about the threat looming on our planet and other planets of the Galaxy. The father of the family, who has a college degree in engineering, a translated instructions for the spaceship of Alf and children's games in the garage allowed to revive the spaceship.

But what to do? Stand idly by and stay on Earth, waiting for 100% death? Or go to the hostile environment of space and try to complete the mission with a probability of survival of about 30%.  The unknown time before the apocalypse forces an ordinary family to decide to finish the mission  Alf's, and immediately go to immediately embark on a perilous journey to face unknown civilizations and an uncertain outcome to survive themselves and save our Earth and Galaxy.

Chapter 1. Planet Earth (galactic name - Eris)

That day was a beautiful warm weather. The sun was shining, birds were singing, cows were grazing in the meadows, and beautiful curly clouds were floating across the sky. A typical California day. I remember this for the reason that on that day we came to this state for the first time from North Dakota, where the weather did not spoil us. For me (I am Robert) and my sister (Suzanne) it was already an adventure, and we looked with interest at the unusual landscapes flying past the car window.

My father was an aviation equipment specialist and he was invited to work in the laboratory of new technologies. Mom (Kat) was an artist. I was 10 years old at the time, and my sister was 5 years old.

My parents bought a house near Los Angeles and today we have to move into it. California, the state of eternal summer, delighted my sister and me. Now it was possible to run out into the street without any problems without long dressing and checking for dirt and rain on the street.

For my sister and me, the road passed unnoticed while watching movies on a tablet, going to bed, dining in roadside cafes and looking at new places.

And now, finally, we have arrived. The first impression of the house was not very good. It was an old one-story house with a large backyard and a dilapidated barn in the backyard.

After unloading things and distributing rooms, it's time to inspect the backyard. And here an unexpected surprise was waiting for us: in the shed, half submerged in it, there was something that looked like a small spaceship of unusual shape, and its protruding part was covered with a tarpaulin. It had 4 engines on the sides. They were attached to a rotary disk and could be directed horizontally for normal flight and vertically for takeoff like a rocket. I've seen something like this in a tiltrotor, but there were engines with blades turning, and here are jet rocket engines, two on each side. There are 4 jet engines in total.

It was strange and not at all like what I had seen before in movies or comics. Outwardly, he looked whole. Later I found out that it was an alien ship that crashed and landed in the shed of the former owners. The alien lived in this house for several years, and the owners of the house kept his presence a secret.  By the thick layer of dust on some parts, it was clear that this ship had been standing here for a very long time. This intrigued me, as it gave me the opportunity to examine an unusual object similar to an alien spaceship. It was cool, and now this house didn't seem boring to me. My father was also interested in this spaceship, as it was close to his specialty. The female half of our family was not impressed by this find. My mother was busy looking for a place for her art studio, and my sister got acquainted with the local flora (flowers, trees, weeds) and fauna (cats, dogs, neighbors). Everyone has found a hobby for themselves.

Days passed. My father was busy with his work, and in the evenings he studied the device of the spaceship and looked for breakdowns. He found out that the accident of the spaceship occurred due to wool getting into the positioning system of the spaceship, and for this reason he went off course. My father took out various parts and electronic components from the spaceship, cleaned them, and replaced the wires with more reliable wires with thick insulation. But he could not start the engines yet, since it was unknown how this device was turned on.

Mom used the spaceship as a warehouse for groceries and a pantry for various things, since there was little space in the house itself. Interestingly, the previous owners of the house also used the spaceship as a shed, since the spaceship took the place of the shed. From the old owners we got considerable supplies of water, canned food, cereals, dried fruits and other food, as well as various old things that were also stored in this alien spaceship.

Since this spacecraft was faulty, I was allowed to play in it. It was like a tree house for me. I loved touching various levers, pressing buttons and holding on to the steering wheel, imagining myself as the commander of a real spaceship and dreaming of flying to the moon or Mars. The sister also played inside this warehouse of things and products, imagining herself as the mistress of her house or the queen in the castle. Sometimes my sister and I played hide-and-seek, hiding in the barn and the spaceship. Here is a photo from the cabin:

One of the fascinating moments that interested our whole family was the books found inside the ship, apparently a flight magazine, which describes everything related to the mission, flight tasks and current events, and the other is similar to the instructions due to the abundance of different schemes. They were really mysterious books, as they were written in an incomprehensible language, and one of them had a lot of interesting pictures with fantastic animals, plants, and planets. Deciphering the book's entries was a difficult task even for my father, but fortunately at work my dad had a colleague who worked as an electronics technician and had access to a computer that had previously been used to decrypt military ciphers and my father scanned several sheets from the book and gave him to study and try to decipher an alien language. This was important, because only from this book it was possible to learn about the mission of this spacecraft, where it flew and for what purpose, as well as many other important details and descriptions of amazing animals, plants and planets. An electronics specialist named Jay promised to digitize the texts and upload them to a computer for analysis and decryption. There was little chance of a successful result, but we decided to try to find out the secret of the alien book. It could take days or even weeks.

But besides the book, there were other interesting devices and mechanisms inside the spaceship.

One of them was a small object with a metal funnel, resembling an ancient hearing aid, but its purpose was still unclear.

Another object resembled a large antique clock or an old mechanical calculator, only much more complicated, and how to use it was also unclear.

As time went on, our family completely settled into this small neighborhood in the vicinity of Los Angeles.  But one day there came a day that changed our usual gray everyday life.

One day my sister and I were playing hide-and-seek in the barn. The sister hid behind one of the boxes, which stood not far from the spaceship. I started looking for her, but suddenly she herself appeared from behind the box holding in her hand some kind of glass object that glowed with a dull red color. We entered the spaceship and began to look at it with surprise. It was well-shaped, smooth and looked like a crystal or a large piece of jewelry, and it was also very warm. She, of course, began to try on jewelry for herself, and I remembered that I had already seen a similar shape somewhere, where this crystal could fit in size and shape. I took the crystal and started walking around the spaceship, looking for this notch. It didn't take long to search, since a similar hole was located in the cockpit of the spacecraft in the center of the main rudder. Excited by a premonition and at the same time feeling fear, I took the crystal and inserted it into the recess on the steering wheel. The crystal fit perfectly and fell into place almost without resistance. And after that, unexpectedly, the alien ship came to life: somewhere, something hummed, the lights on the steering wheel and on the remote control lit up, the screens in the control cabin came to life. Terrified, my sister and I ran screaming out of the spaceship and ran into the house. Paralyzed by fear, we could not explain to our parents what had happened, but only waved our hands, shouted and pointed towards the barn. My father boldly rushed into the yard, my mother, grabbing a meat hammer in the kitchen, rushed after him, and we timidly moved behind. When we entered the barn, we all stood amazed, unable to utter a single word. We just stood there, looked at the flashing lights on the spaceship's hull and listened to a low, low hum. The father was the first to recover, and he boldly stepped inside the ship. He carefully and carefully examined the entire interior space. His mother was backing him up with a hammer, ready at any moment to bring down the full power of the kitchen weapon on the uninvited aliens. My sister and I, holding each other's hands tightly, with bulging eyes and open mouths, pressed against each other and prepared to deafen the aliens with our screams. When the general stupor and fear dissipated, my father asked what we were doing in the spaceship. Now we were able to calmly talk about our discovery of the red crystal and how we placed it in the recess on the steering wheel in the cockpit of the spacecraft. My father took the crystal out of the steering wheel and everything went silent. Silence fell. Then he pressed the crystal again, and the lights came on again and the instruments hummed. He sat in the driver's seat of the spaceship and took the steering wheel. If you moved the main steering wheel, you could hear the control pistons moving in the wings and tail of the spaceship. It was nice to feel that the entire spacecraft obeys the actions of the steering wheel and obediently executes all commands. Everyone was filled with delight and awareness of a great discovery. My father was happy that he did not waste his time on repairing equipment in vain, and my sister and I were filled with anticipation of adventures. Only Mom wasn't very happy, because she didn't like changes – she liked constancy and stability more. Therefore, she gave the command to turn off the spaceship, enter the house and discuss the events over dinner. No one argued with mom, because everyone was overwhelmed with impressions, and it took time to digest all the information and calm down. At dinner, while eating pumpkin pie, it was decided not to take any action until the decoding of the flight log and finding out all the goals and details of the flight of this alien ship.

10 days have passed while waiting for the results of deciphering the text of the book. Doubts had already begun to arise about the success of this task, but on Sunday the phone rang and I realized from my father's joyful face that we were close to solving the mystery of the alien ship's mission. After hanging up the phone, my father delighted us with the news that the decryption had given a positive result, and now it was possible to scan the entire book to decrypt the entire text. My father immediately began scanning all the pages of the book and sending them to the email address of his colleague Jay. Now the waiting was not so depressing.

A week later, Dad's colleague Jay came to our house with a thick folder under his arm. Slamming the folder down loudly on the table, he sat down on the sofa, exhaled and looked at us with a meaningful and smug face. Although he didn't say anything, it was clear that he felt like the savior of mankind. And it was close to the truth, although we didn't know it then. We also had no idea that we would all soon become participants in this event. Of course, neither did my sister, who found a crystal that turned out to be an energy source for an alien spaceship, and I, who found the place where the crystal was supposed to be.

And now it's time to plunge into new knowledge, technical details and the disclosure of an amazing secret that has been hidden for many years under a tarpaulin and a thick layer of dust, in a shed, in the backyard of our new house. Huddled around the table, we all got ready for new discoveries and incredible knowledge.

It's a very interesting book. Unusual and humorous. Everything that happens here is very realistic and the illustrations are also of photo quality. This is the best book I have read in the last few years. Recommend.
