    Life Changes - T L Cobb

    CHAPTER 1

    THE BEGINNING

Three years ago, I was out of control, mixed with the wrong crowed and got into a lot of trouble. My counselor said it was my way of blocking out the hurt I was feeling from losing my mum when I was seven, she says that I never grieved so from then to the age of thirteen I held it all inside. That’s six years of anger and hurt over flowing, it all had to come out, but I went the wrong way about it, if I continued down that road I wouldn’t be doing what I am today and that’s changing for the better. I was starting dance classes tonight, I used to go when I was little but when I lost my mum I gave it all up and shut myself off. Standing in the front room looking in the mirror, I had to keep telling myself this is it, this is the path I should be taking, that’s when my dad came in Lisa are you ready to go, I will drop you off he seems to think he has to take me everywhere I go, I don’t blame him for not trusting me but I need to do this on my own. its fine dad, I will make my own way there, you don’t have to be my chaperone I could tell he wanted to argue with me, but I was standing stern, this is my time to prove myself I’m not sure that’s a good idea, how do I know if you will go. I shook my head and gave him my dance teachers card with her number on it call her in half an hour, she will tell you I turned up, that seemed to have worked ok, but I want you back here by ten.

I didn’t think he was going to let me out the door but thankfully he did, I made it to the studio, still with five minutes to spare. Looking up at two buildings in front of me, one was the dance studio, and another was used for some sort of cadets, I take a deep breath and step inside one of them not realizing it was the wrong one. Not knowing what to do or say I started to go back towards the door with about twenty police cadets watching me. As I turned to walk out, the door swung open and I bumped straight into a very tall well-built young man, feeling extremely embarrassed I apologized, I think he did too then I walked away without looking up. I forgot how exhausting dancing was so after class I went to call my friend to come and pick me up but when I looked in my bag for my phone it was not there, I must have dropped it when I bumped into that young man.

No phone, no cash, looks like I am walking home, it’s not that far, I’m fit enough to do it. Not even five minutes down the road and I hear a car honking its horn then pulling up next to me, I didn’t know who it was or what they wanted so I carried on walking, just a little faster until I heard his voice hey, you dropped your phone earlier I thought you might want it back his voice was quite soft, it sounded just like the man from earlier, the one I bumped into, that’s when I realized it was him. I stopped walking and approached his car thanks, I would be lost without that as I went to walk away I noticed he didn’t start moving so I turned to him again and asked, was there something else you wanted. He didn’t answer so I went to walk off, do you want a ride home or would you rather walk I wasn’t expecting that, he was so blunt, I thought long and hard about it, I could just imagine what my dad would say right now. Putting all things into consideration I decided I could trust him, I got in to the car and told him where I lived.

The whole journey home we didn’t say a word to each other which I thought was strange because he came across as very confident, as we pulled up to my street I decided to break the silence myself so first you get in my way and cause me to bump into you, then you bring me my phone and offer me a lift home, but I don’t even know your name. With the way he looked at me I could feel myself blush then he started laughing at me did I say something funny I said trying not to laugh myself well he replied firstly I didn’t get in your way, you weren’t looking where you were going that’s why you bumped into me he took a deep breath and continued and secondly as for my name I thought about telling you but I didn’t think there was any point as I probably won’t see you again but if you really want to know its William, but everyone calls me Will. As we pulled up to my house I opened the door and stepped out of the car, turning to him I said with a smile thank you William for driving me home maybe I will see you around with that I shut the door and walked away. As I approached my front door he shouted out the window to me hey, so what do I call you when I see you again looking back I just say my name is Lisa When I walked in my dad was standing in the hall way looking at me as if I had broken curfew again hey dad, what’s up that wasn’t a good idea don’t give me what’s up young lady, what the hell do you think you’re playing at he was pissed with me about something and I think I could guess what. I went to dance like I said I would so why are you shouting at me don’t act all innocent with me, yes I called your teacher, Vanessa and yes she told me you were there but when I called her again to make sure you had left as soon as it finished guess what she told me.

Although it would make him angrier at me I still insisted on not having a clue what he was talking about no dad I can’t guess what she told you so do you want to fill me in don’t get smart with me, you know full well what I am on about, who gave you a lift home, what’s his name if you even know it. Now I was getting pissed off I have had enough of this his name is William and he goes to the police cadets next door to the studio, he offered to give me a lift home and I accepted, I’m not a baby anymore I can make choices for myself.

I went to walk off to my room but he stopped me and continued to lecture me for a start you are only sixteen and judging by the choices you made in the past no you can’t make them for yourself, I don’t want you having anything to do with him, he could have been anyone and you still got into the car with him. That’s it this conversation is over are we done, I need a shower and some sleep I think he has given up
