    Poetry from a Lawyer - Jim Bill Keenan

    ‘OUR CULTURE’

    By: Jim Bill Keenan

    Our Culture,

    We must endeavor to protect,

    For our posterity it to nurture;

    Fail of it and our children have

    An endangered future,

    Then for them,

    Too little, too late,

    For us to amend and

    Become wiser, shrewder;

    The task is

    For us daily,

    Abiding never to abdicate

    To others later to come;

    Let us then devote our effort

    To preserving our children’s future,

    To leaving this world the better

    For our having been here,

    Let’s do it now,

    Not delay,

    With urgency for, at any moment,

    We will see the end,

    See our departure.

    ‘A FRIEND IS’

    By: Jim Bill Keenan

    A friend is someone who

    need not your apology

    when all is not well.

    A friend is someone who

    can know your deepest thoughts and feelings

    without your fearing

    that the friend would ever tell.

    A friend need to be summoned

    to give a little help when needed,

    for a friend will always know

    if things just aren’t swell.

    Such a friend should always be

    cherished,

    treasured,

    held in such esteem

    that double will never come

    be the days and times of Heaven or Hell.

    But to have such a friend in life means

    being such a friend in life.

    Haven’t we been there together,

    Haven’t we seen it all come and go,

    and thru it all

    we had a Friend,

    that Special Someone,

    That One who gave and received

    Our best as it was

    and should have been.

    And in the end,

    it will be

    because of each and the other

    that it will be said

    indeed

    They helped each and the other.

    ‘CHOICE’

    By: Jim Bill Keenan

    I am starting with the man in the mirror;

    He said to me, to us all,

    Any man can come to me,

    He said let us reason together

    And thereafter it shall be as it shall be.

    As we go to his
