I would like to dedicate this amazing book to our wonderful father, Louis, who spent over half a century of adventures with our beautiful mother. They truly loved one and other for all those years and beyond. Our dad is the most inspirational and smartest man I know.

I would like to give a special thanks to my amazing caring sister, Joyce (444) and our 2 extraordinary boys Nicky and Vincent. I would also like to thank the love of my life, Nick, who takes such good care of me, Sammy, and Sophie.

All of these very special people have been a god send and without whom I could not have gotten through this past year which has been the most difficult year of my life. All of them were responsible in their own ways for making this project possible.

If people knew how much I truly missed you, they would wonder how I am still breathing.

    I LOVE YOU ALL!!

It was a magical morning, to be sure, but more magical than usual? Maybe it was. Maybe because the frogs were silent; and the solar lights were blinking on and off suspiciously. It was Jori’s favorite time of day, just before dawn, when the tropical plants seemed soft and friendly as they moved quietly in the breeze. She knew, from sad experience, that those lovely leaves were tipped with long, dark, extremely sharp needles. The leaves themselves were edged like saw toothed blades that even Moe, her dog, disliked.

Moe was now sitting next to her, making chirping noises, softly begging to be let out of the screened area, the way he did every morning. Somehow, though, even Moe’s chirping was a little different this morning. Moe’s attention focused on a light that was particularly active. Jori had never seen a solar light act quite this way, sometimes lighting darkly with a blue hue and then brightly with a definite orange tinge followed by every color of the prism. Now Moe was fully engaged and was threatening to shatter the peaceful calm of the morning. The neighbors would surely be asleep and so she thought she would go to see what the fuss was about before Moe got really rowdy.

Upon investigating there seemed to be a tiny, beautiful, slipper stuck in the screen crack. Thinking it was a toy left by her younger cousin, who had a habit of leaving action figures around, Jori reached for it. She heard a small pop and instead of the slipper, she pulled a small figure out of the crack. A perfect, tiny person with sparkling blue hair and green eyes dressed in an extraordinary gown that shone yellow, then green, then orange and then every color and hue that exists all at once and then again, one at a time. A purple sash was still stubbornly held in the crack as if it were being pulled from the other side.

Jori knew that her imagination had gotten the best of her on many occasions, but when the creature laughed and started talking to her she knew this was very different than any of her conjured up stories. Help me get unstuck the small, perfect girl said. Jori, amazed as she was, complied by gently tugging at the sash trying to pull it out of the space between screen and cement floor. Jori’s suspicion that the sash was held form the other side seemed to be correct, and it took more than a little doing to free the lovely creature. The gentle tugs gave way to fully fledged yanks and finally the sash came free with a violent jerk that left Jori off balance. When the figure was totally free of the frame Jori asked who she was and what was she
