About this ebook

The first Minty and Marmaduke book was written a few years ago. It was about two inquisitive mice who had adventures and got into mischief around a small quiet English country farm but always managed to end up smiling. This book is a follow-up, with stories for the children who have asked for more. This edition has five stories of the mice with illustrations drawn by the author.

It’s very dark out there, Marmaduke, whispered Minty, who was peering out from the loft at the top of the barn, at the farmyard, as he couldn’t go to sleep. It was very eerie in the moonlight.

What was that? There’s something moving about out there! His whisper was much louder.

Marmaduke turned over, and told Minty he was imagining it. He spoke to his brother sleepily.

It’s probably Foxy or Mister Owl or maybe the rat gang. They’re all busy looking for food at night. Go to sleep.

Minty was more wide awake than ever. He was convinced it was none of the night creatures moving out there. He was sure he heard one of the farm buildings doors open and close. His mind wandered, Maybe it wasn’t shut properly and the wind had made it rattle, His eyes tried hard to focus on the yard, which was very difficult as the only light there was, came from the very pale moon, with a thin blanket of could over it.

    Eventually he fell asleep.

The next morning, Minty never stopped chattering and pestering Marmaduke to listen to him, about the noises and eerie shadows of the night. Finally his brother relented and to satisfy the agitated Minty, he sighed and said….

Okay, okay, we’ll keep watch tonight if that will shut you up and put your mind at rest.

Oh thanks, Marmaduke! said Minty with a relieved grin.

He knew then to be quiet. He could see that Marmaduke was in his thinking-’mode’, – forming a plan.

Eventually, Marmaduke spoke. What if we go to the children’s tree house? We would have a great view all around the farmyard from there, and it’s warm and dry as well. We could do that tomorrow night!

Minty’s mouth dropped open and his eyes were wide, as he thought of the night that was planned. He was both excited
