About this ebook

Nellies Tale is an adventure story. It begins with Susi walking over to see how the beautiful paint horse in the back pasture is doing. She cant believe her eyes. She and her foster cousin Cindy have to rescue the extremely neglected mare. Then Cindys amazingly handsome, super-protective older brother gets involved.
The three happy-go-lucky teens, who could be seen riding around town in Grandmas new red Ford Mustang convertible, suddenly have to get real serious to try to save poor Nellie. They demonstrate how their faith in Jesus helps them to accomplish amazing things. Their dedication and teamwork are truly rare.
The three youth encounter great obstacles in their path. Cindy gets a bad skin condition from contact with the horse. Susi develops severe allergies from just being near Nellie.
When things look their worst, the veterinarian becomes Gods tool to save the day. Yet even better by far is Kerrys spiritual experience. It was the most important decision that a believer makes in their life.
Then after the girls finally get to truly enjoy the horses on some mountain and beach trail rides, tragedy strikes with the death of one of the horses. Susi is so devastated that she stops going out to the ranch. Yet Cindy and Kerry demonstrate Gods love to her in such a way that Susi returns to work with Nellie.
A horse expert helps them discover that Nellie has real talent. Can the teens achieve success with the little paint who has won their hearts by participating in an upcoming horse show? The ending may surprise you.

Author

Susan Patrick

After teaching kindergarten for thirty years, Susan Patrick retired. Starting with a Shetland pony at the age of twelve, shes owned four horses since and has always loved horses. She rescued Nellie shortly after she retired. In hindsight it was good timing because it ended up being a full-time job. Her friend Cindy actually did all the footwork. She wrote up a bill of sale and got the owner to sign over the extremely neglected horse to Cindy and Susan. Cindy soon gave up her share in the partnership when she contracted skin problems from Nellie. Susan had the finances and the time to help the horse to recover. All the events in the story really, truly happened to Susan. Susan lost her mother when she was seven. Her father remarried when she was thirteen. She knows that being a step-child and having a step-mother can be very difficult on a family. She has two step-children of her own and tries to give them twice as much love than one would give their own natural born children. Thats the reason she chose step-mothers and foster children to be the characters in her novel. Susan had two thirteen year olds act as Susi and Cindy in her photo shoot. She also used her seventeen year old grandson to be the character Kerry. She uses factual events but changes the age of the characters in hopes of attracting young readers. Susan desires that her readers will be inspired by the teens in her book, who trusting the faith they have in God through Jesus, accomplish great things.

    One

Susi crept around the back of Grandma’s two story house, gently dragging her finger along the rough white stucco wall. She caught glimpses of tiny black birds darting in and out of the small openings in the red tile roof. The house sat in the middle of several five acre pastures housing various horses, some cattle and the ranch consisting of over seventy-five acres.

Susi’s best friend and foster cousin, Cindy, had been telling her that Nellie, the beautiful paint horse, which was dark brown with white patches, was looking very poor. But nothing could have prepared her for what she would find in Nellie’s pasture. As she passed through Grandma’s backyard, the young teen softly whispered words of encouragement to herself. "Come on, you can do this. You have to see for yourself
