Luckus King & Sin - King Reality
Prologue
God damn room-dog. Are you all right up there?
Old school said in his smooth playa voice from his prison bottom bunk bed.
Yeah. Why? What’s up?
Luckus asked as he tossed and turned on the top bunk.
Nothing. It just sounds like you having a wrestling match with your pillow up there young blood.
Old-school said in the same smooth voice.
I know man. I can’t go back to sleep for shit!
Luckus was aggravated as he settled on his back.
Yeah. That’s how this Lockdown shit have a nigga.
Old school said to keep the conversation going
Yeah, that and these muhfuckin dreams I’ve been having for a long time.
Luckus was staring up at the ceiling into the semi-darkness of the room.
How long?
Old school asked.
Man, you might think I’m crazy but ever since I was in elementary school.
Luckus said.
Elementary School!
Old school said this in disbelief with a little laugh. About who?
He asked.
My crazy ass baby mama Sin.
Luckus answered.
The one you got the letter from today?
Old school was surprised because Luckus had told him he wasn’t fucking with her when he maxed out of prison in the next two days.
Yeah.
Luckus answered, hating the power Sin still held over him just a little bit.
Well, check this out King.
Old school said. I’m in my own zone down here, but hell…I don’t mind hearing about your dream. It might help you go back to sleep if you talk about it.
He said and quietly waited for a response but Luckus was hesitant because he never told anyone about his dreams, but then he considered telling his roommate because Old School was wise, gave good advice, and was a patient listener.
"Now you got to hear it from the beginning, how my dreams started to all the shit I went through for Sin and it’s a looong story. Luckus said.
Well, one thing I know we got in this prison cell here at the Ridgeland Correctional Institution is a bunch of time for this long story you got…
Old School was ready to be entertained.
Luckus got comfortable by resting his hands behind his head and closed his eyes to visualize his history with Sin as he spoke. Alright, listen

It all started when I was in the 5th grade at the Chester Park elementary school. I was at the age where I had just started noticing the beauty in the girls I went to school with and how it became a need for me to have their attention. I would always write short love letters to the ones I was mostly interested in with 2 boxes at the bottom of the page for them to check yes or no if they wanted to be my girlfriend or not. The letters always came back with a check in the box that said no
. I was never disappointed because I knew I didn’t have a chance with the pretty girls being that I didn’t have the name brand nice clothes and shoes like some of the popular boys in my school had. I didn’t care because I knew one day one of the lil broads was going to bite and check yes in one of my love letters.
But damn near halfway through the school year I still hadn’t got a yes. Not even from the girls I met outside for recess that was in other classes. Although I did get a few letters myself but they were from all the ugly broads and you know I hurried up and put check the box that said no and made another box that said no and put a check beside it too and sent that shit straight back to them ASAP.
Anyway, I knew I had to change my tactic up because my letters weren’t working and the constant rejections I was getting was starting to wear on my lil ego. So, one day when I got home from school my uncle Jimmy was sitting on my mama porch with a fat light skin lady on his lap. They were passing a joint back and forth sharing a 40 ounce of old English malt liquor beer. Now my uncle was the flyest cat I knew. He had no name brand clothes and he had no problem getting any woman he wanted no matter what she looked like. Black, white, skinny, fat, pretty or ugly he got them. That’s what made him my favorite uncle out of all my mama’s brothers. Plus he was my only uncle who didn’t live all the way in Tennessee.
What’s up nephew?
my Uncle Jimmy said as he took a swig from the 40 ounce of O.E. with weed smoke coming out his nose.
Nothing Unc.
I said but truefully I was feeling defeated as I passed by him to go in the apartment. I didn’t care to kick it with him like I usually did when he came after leaving one of his many girlfriend’s houses.
Hold up nephew. What’s wrong with you?
Uncle Jimmy asked giving the 40 ounce to the big redbone chick that was sitting on his lap. And before I could get out of his reach, he grabbed the back of my superman book bag.
I stopped and turned around to face him. Nothing Unc um just tired that’s all.
I was trying my best to sound and act like that was really my problem.
My uncle looked me directly in the eyes and automatically knew I was lying my ass off. Nobody ain’t fuckin with you, are they?
He had a grim look on his face.
Naw Unc nobody ain’t messing with me.
I answered quickly knowing he would rough me up if I was letting one of the boys at schools bully me.
Tiffany hold up for a minute baby.
My Uncle Jimmy said smoothly to the big redbone chick as he softly patted her on the side of her big red ass cheek.
When Tiffany stood, I couldn’t help but stare up at her. And although I was young, I knew I wasn’t attracted to big girls. But this chick Tiffany wasn’t just a big girl. She had a huge nice ass and a pretty red face that I probably could’ve worked with regardless of my preference in a woman. How you doing cutie?
She said with a sexy wink of an eye at me before finishing off the 40 ounce of O.E.
Chill until I come back sweetheart.
My uncle Jimmy told her in his lover boy voice and gave her a kiss on her pink plump lips then he walked me in the apartment. I couldn’t help but smile because I could tell that that kiss had Tiffany on cloud 9. My Uncle Jimmy was like a drug to her.
Luckus is that you?
my mama yelled over the sound of the fried chicken that was sizzling in the frying pan.
Yes mam!
I yelled back while my Uncle Jimmy and I followed the path through the living room and down the long hallway that lead to my room.
Boy do you have homework?
My mama asked peeking her head from the entrance of the kitchen. And Jimmy don’t be teaching my baby no bad habits!
She yelled knowing my uncle was the black Sheep of the family and outlaw to the streets.
I ain’t cookie! My nephew wantna show me something. Damn!
Uncle Jimmy said closing my room door. So, you gone tell me what’s up or what?
He asked leaning against my dresser with his arms crossed over his chest.
I didn’t answer because I was more embarrassed then anything to tell my favorite, cool ass uncle, that I was having problems getting the girls to like me. So, I acted as if I was distracted by unzipping my book bag and pulling out my notebook which had papers sticking out everywhere in an unorganized fashion. But I didn’t notice the latest love letter I wrote to a girl name (Palisha Rich) had fallen to the floor.
What’s this?
My Uncle Jimmy asked as he picked the letter up and analyzed it. Now I see what yo problem is.
He said looking at the bottom of the page where the box was checked No.
He had a big smile on his face like it was funny that I was being rejected by a girl I gave all my candy to.
Alright Unc, you got me.
I said jumping up on my twin size bed that was covered with superman covers. I’m having girl problems. And I think it’s because of these clothes and shoes my mama make me wear to school.
I said as my little legs hung from the side of the bed
My Uncle Jimmy immediately busted out laughing from hearing my young ass talking about girl problems and I just stared at him, not finding anything funny as I fought to hold my tears in. My bad nephew.
He said controlling his laughter when he realized it wasn’t a laughing matter. He wiped the laughter tears from his eyes as he sat on the bed beside me with the letter still in his hand. It ain’t the clothes. Trust me baby boy. See look at me.
He pulled on his cheap shirt and pants and took one of his Jordash shoes off to show me. The clothes don’t make the man; the man make the clothes and believe that.
See my uncle Jimmy was the male figure that was in my life most of the time being that my daddy left my mama before I was born and moved back to Baltimore Maryland where he was originally from. He never contacted my mama or me once, so my uncle was always the one who was there to teach me the things my mama couldn’t. So that day My uncle chilled with me for damn near an hour, not caring that he still had Tiffany outside on the porch waiting on him to come back out. It was like he was waiting for that day to come to show me the game of how to get the girls, because he was enjoying himself.
The next morning my mama didn’t have to yell at me to wake up and get ready for school because I was up and dressed before her. I was anxious to put in motion what I had learned from my Uncle and to wear the No-Name-Brand
clothes he swaged out for me. Now if my uncle wasn’t good for nothing else, he was a professional when it came to drawing. So, he hooked up a pair of Bo Bo’s my mama bought me from Family Dollars and that I had hid in the back of the closet the first day of school so I wouldn’t have to wear them. But I had no problem putting them on after my Uncle Jimmy drew my initials on the front in big bold old English Letters. And Being that my mama wouldn’t dare spend a lot of money on a football jersey, my uncle took and drew the logo of the Baltimore Ravens bird on the front of my white sweat shirt and L. King
on the back with a big number seven. He had me feeling fresh-to-def.
Me and my mama lived in Chester Town House apartments so my school wasn’t too far away and it didn’t take my mama long to get me there in her old rusty box Chevy. When I jumped out the front seat and closed the door I caught a few glances from some of the girls I had already wrote love letters too. I like your shoes Luckus.
The girl name Palisha Rich said as I walked in a cool bop like my uncle taught me. It made me feel like the coolest lil’ nigga alive and I wanted to tell her ‘Thank you, but I was doing like my uncle told me to do and ignored her.
I had everybody checking out my shirt and shoes as I bopped down the hallway to my class acting as if I didn’t notice them looking. When I finally made it to my desk and sat down, I felt like I was the man and all I had to do next is find a new victim to give the letter to my Uncle Jimmy help me put together.
Before we get started boys and girls. We have a new student here today. Will you please stand and introduce yourself to the class young Lady.
My teacher said pointing to the back of the class room.
I was so busy showing off my shirt and shoes and trying to be cool that I didn’t notice the new addition to the class. So, I turned around to see who she was and what she looked like.
My name Sinyatta Angles and I’m from Baltimore, Maryland.
The new girl said standing and quickly sat back down.
Now I didn’t like dark skin girls neither. But after seeing her gray eyes my whole mind frame changed and I knew that I had to act fast if I was going to snag her before one of the other boys got at her first. So, I dug in my Superman book bag and pulled the letter out that my Uncle Jimmy helped me write. All I had to do was add the new girl name at the top in which I just wrote ‘Sin’ for short because I wasn’t very good at spelling. I folded the letter real nice and drew a heart on the outside. As I was doing all that I didn’t know my teacher was standing over me watching.
Well thank you Mr. King.
My teacher said reaching out her pale white hand with brown moles on the back.
My heart dropped as I looked up at her prune face with that evil smirk on it, because I knew what she was about to do and to keep from getting my ass whipped by my mama, when I got home, I handed her the letter.
It looks like somebody’s in love everyone.
She said inspecting the outside of the letter where I drew the heart. Let’s see who the Lucky Girl is.
She opened the letter up.
I could hear some of the kids giggling. I hated Miss White and I just knew that she hated me to because she always found a way to take my recess and make me sit beside her while the other kids played various games outside. Or she would send bad notes home to my mama, in which my mama would tear my ass up as-soon-as I walked through the door, but at that particular moment, as Miss White held that letter in her hand, I would’ve been more than happy to suffer the consequences of both those punishments than for her to read the letter so the whole class could hear.
Miss White cleared her throat before she started to read. Dear Sin, you’re very beautiful and I wanted to know if you’re as a beautiful on the inside hmm, as you are on outside.
She paused and looked at me like she couldn’t believe I wrote it, then she continued to read. If so, will you be my girlfriend? Yes or no?
By the time she finished reading the whole class was falling out their desk laughing. I had my head down on my desk with my eyes closed wishing I could just disappear.
That day I still ended up losing my recess and my mama tore my ass raggedy with my granddaddy leather belt when I got home, and she cursed my uncle out for his conspiracy in writing the letter.
Over the next few days I tried to avoid any attention especially from the new girl. Plus, my ass was still hurting from the ass whipping I got. I still watched the new girl from afar and found that she was anti-social in class but outside she played tag football with all the boys. I couldn’t believe how she was running all the touchdowns for the team she was on. She was a real Tom boy.
The rest of the school year flew by and I was glad I didn’t have to ride the bus none after what happen to me with the letter. I probably would’ve ended up in a fight. But then came the last day of school and at the end of the day I was called to the principal’s office so he could let me know my mama’s old rusty box Chevy was broke down and I had to take the bus home. So, when school was completely over and the bus was called over the inter-com, that was I supposed to ride, I tried to rush and get on first so no one would notice me in the back but that didn’t work because the bus was already full. Look ya’ll. there go lover-boy Luckus.
I heard somebody say before all the kids started laughing. It made me think that I should’ve let the bus leave me. Until the new girl came running out the front of the school to
