The decision he must make may bring him either a lifetime of joy or else one of regret.

    Prologue

Adena paced in a circle, her anger seeping thru her skin. She was furious; he was leaving her without giving them a chance. Her mate didn’t want her. She knew he was hurting, suffering the loss of Andrés, his twin brother, and Ari, his best-friend and lover. She shook her head, then let her wolf come forward. She felt her face elongating. She dropped to the ground, hearing her legs crack as her bones began to reshape. In seconds, a wolf — her wolf — was standing firmly on four paws.

Her wolf looked around the woods then began to run. She could feel her heart beating fast in her chest. After a few miles running through the woods, she detected the scent of her prey. Her wolf slowed to a trot. She moved slowly around a tree, inching confidently toward the small rabbit. When the time was right, her wolf rushed toward her prey and was swiftly on top of it. She tore the skin off and, in no time, she had devoured the animal. When she was done, her wolf settled down under the tree and sleepily closed her eyes.

Enrique walked back and forth from one end of the room to the other. He had been cooped up there for two weeks. He was tired and angry at the world. He had lost both his twin brother and his longtime lover in a matter of days. And on top of that, he had strong feelings for a woman he had met only two weeks ago. How could any of this be possible?

He had been waiting for more than an hour for Elisa, the lead doctor at the pack’s compound, to discharge him. Enrique grabbed his cell phone from the table and walked out of the room. As he opened the door and stepped out, he smacked right into someone. He reached out to steady the person in front of him. Fuck, he snapped, realizing he was face-to-face with the last person he wanted to see.

Enrique, Adena greeted him breathlessly, trying to get her balance back.

What are you doing here? he asked.

Really, could you be more predictable? she asked sarcastically.

He frowned as he tried to read her expression. Suddenly, he realized that he was still holding onto her.

Fine, Elisa sent me to release you. You’re free to go. Ari is waiting for you at the main house, she explained, pulling away from him.

Well, thank you, he stated, taking a step back then walking by her toward the door.

As he walked she kept pace with him. Soon they were outside, walking toward the main house. He could feel Adena next to him, her body heat washing over him like ocean waves.

Can you please stop whatever you’re doing, he shouted.

I’m not doing anything, she exclaimed defensively.

    Fine.

When they reached the front door of the main house, Adena stopped and grasped his forearm. He felt the connection between them. She looked up at him, and he couldn’t stop himself from staring down at her intently.

She got up on her toes and leaned closer to him. Take care of yourself. Remember, I’m here for you if you need me, she whispered in his ear, then she pressed a gentle kiss on his cheek. Her lips caressed his cheek for a second longer, then she stepped away. She turned around and left him standing dumbstruck in the doorway.

Enrique couldn’t breathe; his body was on fire. He felt this craving for her that he had never felt before for anyone — not even Ari. He stood there numbly watching her back as she walked away.

Enrique, a familiar voice addressed him, and he felt a hand on his shoulder.

Ari! he exclaimed turning around to look at her.

    Ready to go? she asked.

    Yes, he replied, relieved.

Let’s go then, she said cheerfully, taking his hand.

After saying goodbye to the rest of the pack, he sat next to Ari in the back of the SUV on his way to the airport.

    Chapter One

    Two Months Later

Enrique was running, his feet moving fast. Andrés was just steps in front of him, running as fast as he could, holding his gun in his hand. Enrique could hear the people who were holding Ari captive running in front of them. The men stopped near a plane and pulled their guns out. Suddenly, bullets rained all over him and Andrés. Enrique tried to get out of the line of fire, but there was nowhere to go. They started shooting back at the people holding her. Then Enrique saw Andrés’ body fall to the ground. He could hear his own screams in his head. He rushed to his twin and tried to get a response from him. Bullets were still flying all around him. He shot another round back, then he felt an extreme burning sensation in his leg; instantly he fell to his knees. In front of him just feet away, Ari pulled away from the grip of the man holding her by her arm. She placed her naked body between the men and the twins and shouted at the men. The bullets instantly stopped. Enrique tried to get up but his legs wouldn’t cooperate; he fell down again. The man grasped Ari’s arm again and pulled her up the stairs and inside the plane. In minutes, the plane was in the air. He screamed for Ari, and he screamed for his twin brother,
