ACKNOWLEDGMENT
May it be ours, as preachers, to give the scriptures the place of honor, dignity, and authority that is rightfully due as the inspired revelation of the living God! As this is done decently and in order,
God will honor it and give our message authority through it.
I consider it a privilege to put this study material in print for the Christian masses to help strengthen and encourage the minds of those who preach and teach God’s Word whether they are pastors, Sunday school teachers, deacons, laymen, missionaries, evangelists, or Bible study leaders, the Scripture says, Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the words of truth
(2 Tim. 2:15) Since this is true, we who preach and teach must take our ministry and ministries a lot more seriously.
Sermons and outlines are only provided to facilities understanding and retaining the truths discussed in this material. The outlines used by Dr. Danette M. Vercher during lectures are guides for interacting and applying these principles to preaching and teaching.
I trust that God will greatly use this material in your life and ministry to enhance your commitment to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is my prayer that He will empower you to boldly preach and teach God’s Word to this end and that lives will be changed.
Special appreciation is extended to the people and staff associated with A Ray of Hope Theological Seminary and Bible College and the International School of Divinity and Crystal Rain Institute. I thank Bishop Bryan J. Pierce, Sr. of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc. of North Carolina, for believing in the gifts of God in me. With your prayers, support, and resources, this project has been successful.
May God richly bless you as He enables you to deliver His message.
FOREWORD
In this 21st century with its modern and contemporary culture in which we live, I still believe that our world is in desperate need of God. In fact, the words of the Apostle Paul ring louder with each generation where he said, How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
(Romans 10:14-15 KJV). The call to preach the gospel is such an awesome privilege and responsibility to the one that has been called. However, the call to prepare is equally as important. Preparation should be a big part of any preacher’s life. In fact one’s presentation is only as good as his or her preparation.
I am grateful to God for Dr. Danette M. Vercher’s obedience and submission to His will, in answering the call to prepare God’s soldiers to preach His gospel. I highly recommend that you read this book as you will not only be encourage and enlighten but better equipped to do God’s will.

INTRODUCTION
The reason of the Christian ministry is personal service, as is stated in Luke 22:25–27: The kings of the Gentiles exercises lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors, but ye shall not be so: But he that is greatest among you let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
Jesus set forth the principle that one’s readiness to serve is the standard by which his greatness as a minister is to be appraised.
Those who hold a special position within the church are, thus, to regard it not as an opportunity to wield authority but as a commission to perform the service correspondence to the office.
The earliest ministry of the church was that of the Apostles, as the meaning of the word apostle indicates they were men sent out on a mission
to continue the work of Jesus. The number of the Apostles is usually restricted to the twelve and to Paul. They were empowered by the Holy Ghost to bear witness of the truth, to impact information pertinent to salvation, and to make decisions with regard to church, order, and discipline.
A second group of inspired ministries were called Prophets.
In 1 Corinthians 14:3, we are told that he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
The book of Acts talks about certain individuals who were said to prophesy.
Acts 11:27 says, And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
Acts 15:32 says, And Judas and Silas being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
The gift of prophecy sometimes followed the imparting of the spirit by the laying on of hands by the Apostles.
Those designated as evangelists probably travelled from place to place spreading the Good News of salvation, going against false doctrine, strengthening the faith of believers, and organizing churches. Following up the work of the evangelist was the teacher whose duty was to build up the life of the church by offering instruction in the Old Testament scriptures and the teaching of Jesus Christ and the Apostles and by applying these teachings to ethical and moral life. A teacher might be a man or a woman, but women were not permitted to teach in a public assembly.
In 1 Corinthians 14:34, it says, Let your women keep silent in the churches: For It is not permitted unto them to speak. But they are commanded to Be under obedience, as also saith the law.
As the church grew, the apostle appointed men in each congregation to oversee the work in the place. In Acts 2:28, Paul charges the overseer of the church in Ephesus to take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseer, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
In the New Testament, the terms bishop, presbyter, pastor, and elder seem to be used interchangeably for this office of spiritual shepherd. By the second century, however, each city or region usually had but a single bishop and the college of presbyters or elders, who worked under his authority.
The last order of ministries to be considered is the deacon. The work of the deacon appears to have been to perform various services at the direction of the elders, such as the administration of charitable goods. In Romans 16:1, Phoebe is referred to as a deaconess.
The New Testament portrays the church as the spirit-filled body of Christ, whose life is sustained and enriched by each member’s exercise of his gift. In this sense, every member of the church may be considered a true minister of Christ and a teacher.
The word teach is to cause to learn, to instruct, to guide the studies of, to impart the knowledge of, to make aware by information, etc. A teacher is one who teaches in the New Testament; teaching usually means instruction in the faith and is to be distinguished from preaching or the spreading of the Gospel message to the non-Christian world.
The Bible contains many passages of scriptures that deal with the qualifications and duties of those
