Long ago in a far away land there lived a little boy named Jamie. Jamie was eight years old and he lived with his mother and younger brother Charlie in the small village of Kirkland Lake. Jamie had light brown hair and baby blue eyes that twinkled like the stars when he was happy which was most of the time. The only time he was sad was when he saw the other kids riding their horses.
Jamie loved horses and he longed to have one of his own, but they were poor and could not afford one. When ever he would ask his mother, she would say not right now, but Jamie knew the truth.
On the edge of the village there was a forest. The forest was forbidden. Jamie never knew why it was forbidden because no one would tell him. In fact no one would even talk about the forest. When ever he would ask about the forest, he was told, shhhh, be quiet, it is bad luck to even mention it. He had not asked now for a long time.
Jamie used to play by himself. He did not play with the other kids because Charlie would be there. Charlie was mean to Jamie. Charlie would hit Jamie every chance he got, so Jamie stayed by himself.
Jamie used to play near the forest sometimes. He never went in the forest, but he was curios. He wanted to know what was in the forest that scared everyone so badly. As much as One day Charlie was really after Jamie. Jamie ran across the field and hid behind a small patch of brushes at the edge of the forest right behind the house. As he sat there quietly waiting for Charlie to leave he noticed a path leading into the forest he wanted to find out where it led to, but he dare not move right now. Charlie was still near. Jamie sat very quietly until Charlie finally gave up trying to find him and left
Jamie stood up slowly and turned towards the path. He started walking, letting the path take him deeper and deeper into the forest. It is so beautiful here he thought. There was a gentle wind blowing. Jamie loved the way the sun shone on each leaf as it danced in the wind. There
