About this ebook
His career began in the Hatfield-McCoy backwoods as a coalmining engineer, the inspiration for the rocket boys of October Sky with his red Corvette convertible. As an Aviation Cadet in the USAF, Bob learned aerobatics, formation, instrument, and twin-engine jet fighter skills. As an engineer, he became a rocket and jet engine research programmer with giant IBM computers at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Then he went on to oceanfront resort management in Palm Beach and Nashville, where he met business moguls, movie stars, and entertainers. He became a published songwriter!
Bob Pauley once wrote a song for a wrongfully convicted death row inmate that saved the mans life. By 2001, he added a computer science degree to his rsum, won many awards, and soon became a member of the Albert Einstein Fellowship. He moved to Washington, DC, to work for the National Science Foundation promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education. Following NSF, Bob obtained his affiliate brokers license to flip houses while making music in Nashville.
Bob races cars, cruises the oceans, and barnstorms the skies. He has crashed and burned a red Corvette in Tallahassee and a Cherokee 6 just north of Kingston, Jamaica. He spelunks, mountain climbs, and scuba dives, living life on the edge. His friends over the years include Colonel Harland Sanders, singer Elvis Presley, Congressman Allen West, ukulele soloist Tiny Tim, and soul artist James Brown. Bob has compiled his memories and skillsets into one book to share. It is called Pizzazz!
Pizzazz! offers its readers something specialthe opportunity to join our Millionaires Investment Group. This is an unprecedented opportunity to flip houses in partnership with knowledgeable teams of investors. In blocks of one thousand dollars per share, beginning flips are possible with shared ownerships of several (five to ten perhaps) like-minded investors. This enables would-be investors to begin investing immediately by sharing their ownership in residential properties with others.
With the innovation of group sharing, Bob Pauley promises cash-strapped investors the chance to invest more quickly. And he shares the opportunity to write professional poetry, music, books, and screenplays in their spare time and to share other exciting and daring adventures guaranteed to bring pizzazz into their lives. This explosive tell-all is a must-read for the adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit.

36048.pngNew Oxford American Dictionary Defines PIZZAZZ!
36055.jpg…for me, in a word, PIZZAZZ! is a great way to describe my intentions. Vitality means strong, active, with great energy – therefore PIZZAZZ is a really cool word that means not just active and energetic but all that vitality with glamour, another word for CLASS.
Yes! If I make it UPPERCASE and add an explanation point it just might be the perfect title for our book. And when I say OUR, let’s emphasize I mean not just me, but YOU. This is an adventure that is to be shared – helping to create a life well lived for the both of us as we add a healthy portion of PIZZAZZ! into your life!
So read on please. I think you’re going to like this. One thing for sure, if you could use a little ADVENTURE, EXCITEMENT, ENERGY, ACTIVITY, CREATIVITY, ENTREPRENEURISM and SUCCESS with a touch of CLASS you have come to the right place!

I was born with that mindset and wouldn’t have it any other way. A world of banjos and guitars. And pretty folk singers like Emmylou and Dolly played a part. If you share my outlook on life please read on, I think you’ll enjoy the pages within.
I overheard my friend Kris Kristofferson say to Roger Miller one time, Pilgrim, we’ve shared a lot of the same barrooms and bedrooms over the Nashville years…
and I related to that. I was a part of those years and I’ll share them with you as we go along.
There were definitely some hard times. If you’ll try out my more productive ideas I’ll show you how to avoid those. Give me a year of your best hard times and I’ll give you a lifetime of financial freedom!

I would happily take any of those words so it’s a great place to start. I want to make your life as magical and exciting as mine so I searched for the right words and they are these: Become a captivating and charismatic leader with an unwavering commitment to bring about positive change in the lives of those in your midst.
With powerful oratory and engaging personality, I wish for you an abundance of peace, pleasure and prosperity. If I can do that for you, then you can do it for others. It’s a powerful WIN…WIN…WIN and we can begin immediately. Some of my friends are listed on the following page. Meeting them was easy – I just went to where they were and took a job! Any job. Living in Nashville helps – You’re liable to see Taylor Swift at any time.
PROLOGUE
Are you happy with your life? Really happy? I got lucky in my early years, coming from the head of the hollow in remotest Appalachia to living at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in ritzy Palm Beach. The Air Force spent a cool million teaching me how to fly fighter jets and that gave me the confidence to stand tall and proud with giants of industry – the Kennedy’s, Fruehauf’s, Ford’s, Deere’s of Palm Beach – and movie stars such as Jackie Gleason, Bob Hope and John Wayne of Hollywood fame.
My mother was a schoolteacher and principal in rural West Virginia, teaching the famed Hatfield’s – as in the feuding Hatfield-McCoy’s – so I grew up a country bumpkin but a very well educated one. My IQ was above average and I excelled in the tough courses like math, physics, chemistry and science. This was STEM education before there was STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education.
I liked music, magic tricks and loved having fun, auto racing, speed dating and scraping up a couple of dollars for the stock market. My dad owned a coalmine so our family was wealthier than most in the area. I drove Corvettes and Cadillac’s at an early age. I learned that education and the accumulation of wealth were the secrets to what my dad called PIZZAZZ. I loved life and was living the dream. If you have the only red convertible in town guess who the pretty girls want to date?!!!
Beyond money and getting a great education I learned that a college degree was like gold; it earned respect. Coming out of the university I was bright enough to qualify for the USAF Aviation Cadet Program to become a jet fighter pilot. That garnered a lot of respect as well. As I lost my hillbilly accent I moved to Palm Beach, Florida where I discovered a whole ‘nother world I had only dreamed about. As a pilot I began to travel a lot – first the U.S. then abroad.
And I learned the importance of making friends that were above my station in life. I soon made their station my station as I sought to shed my country bumpkin image. As an engineer I mingled with great minds at Pratt & Whitney’s jet & rocket engine research center in West Palm Beach. I went through an IBM computer-programming course that added another layer of prestige to my broadening résumé. Computers were brand new back then and as big as a house.
After work I discovered a rundown – therefore affordable – oceanfront hotel, The Ocean Holiday Resort, where I could wake up to the crashing of the waves on the beach. The awesomeness of that was life changing for me. The struggling owner invited me to clean the Olympic-size pool and rake the 400 feet of beachfront at the dawning of each day for a break in my rent. I would paint, clean and repair anything in need for an additional rent reduction.
By chance the managers, a man and wife team, were moving on and opportunity was knocking for me. I convinced the owner my wife and I as a team could be the front office clerk, bellman, bookkeeper, switchboard operator, reservationist, maintenance person, head of housekeeping and general manager all in one neat package. By day I would program the giant IBM computers of Pratt & Whitney, researching the RL-10 rocket and the JT-11 Mach 3 jet engines, and by night assume the duties of the resort.
I was always a hard worker so I cleared and cleaned all 400 feet of ocean frontage to perfection. I repaired and upgraded the aging swimming pool. I made our beach the best kept in all of Palm Beach and I repainted the rusty exterior of the sprawling 58- unit building to a glossy new coat of white. I opened the doors year-round; Palm Beach properties usually closed during the summer months. I created a Swim-n-Surf club for local residents to enjoy all summer long with their kids and families. I wrote to all our previous guests – many well-known industrialists – with the news of a much-improved Ocean Holiday for to reserve their rooms or suite for the coming season.
Soon we were so busy I was forced to leave my lucrative Pratt & Whitney job to operate the resort full-time. We took on college students who would work for a bed and bath. A large storage room by the pool doubled as a dorm for them. Now I had a lifeguard, a maintenance crew and lawn care covered at no cost!
Our guests included famous ball pitcher Bob Feller, actor, Edward Mulhare (The Ghost and Mrs. Muir), Allen Pierce (of Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith), Sam Phillips (Elvis’ record label Sun) and the entire Fruehauf (truck trailer manufacturers) family. Reese (candy), Sperry (S&H Green Stamps), Otto Schwinn (bicycles), etc. – I got to know some cool people that way.
I was offered the job of night manager for the 5-Star Boca Raton Hotel & Club (now Boca Waldorf Astoria) with 727 rooms and a 26-story high-rise wing. Our guests included Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Jackie Gleason and some of the wealthiest families in America. I stayed there for one season. Roger Miller’s King of the Road Hotel was opening in Nashville and I was offered a night manager position, soon to become general manager.
I had written songs before, especially country, and so I fit right in at the King of the Road. The good news there was that I quickly became friends with just about every country singer in Music City. It was commonplace to see Dolly Parton or Elvis, Kristofferson, Waylon and Willie, Loretta Lynn, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis or any of the entire cast of the Hee-Haw Show walking the hallways. I felt like I had died and gone to Hillbilly Heaven!
With every opening I seemed to soar to new heights and that has continued over the years as I’ve prospered. I now assist young and beginning singers and songwriters in becoming better and more successful. I’ve had several of my own songs recorded by the pros, and I’ve made the Billboard Charts up to #4 so far! I also began to invest in house flipping. I help others in that field and that keeps me busy for much of my time. I now have a home in Florida and one in Middle Tennessee, just south of Nashville.
My success has come as a result of great timing and hard work. There’s some luck involved but also an outstanding education and knowing where to find all the best opportunities. Nashville has become the number one location in the U.S., for example, for buying and renovating properties and I was there at the right place and time. My many friends over the years have been superstars, such as Colonel Harland Sanders, John Wayne and Jerry Lee Lewis. We make our own luck, I believe, by being at the right place at the right time with a winning attitude.
I now enjoy helping others get their start by advising them on financial issues, career opportunities, and the importance of education. I’ve come up with many other factors that play a part in success and I like to share them. My adventures around the world have created a lot of headlines – some outstanding and some outrageous. I’ve won a lot of awards and been honored by membership into the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship. I think the best word to describe my life would be one that is accentuated, more like inundated, with PIZZAZZ!
I’m always looking for another opportunity, the latest in technology, a bargain house to flip, or to find a new friend to steer into the right direction. I know success when I see it and I try to be first in line when a new door opens. At this writing I am on the NSF (National Science Foundation) team to photograph the upcoming solar eclipse in high definition from a highflying hot-air balloon in Nashville – Music City, USA. It should be a spectacular adventure! Come and join me if you dare.

FOREWORD
A WINNING TEAM
Fame & Fortune vs. Mediocrity – Life can be such a waste of your time if you don’t have a plan for it. You want a plan? Read on.
~ Bob Pauley
Mediocrity means ordinary, average. Strike mediocrity from your vocabulary and from your life - today. Make some rules for yourself and practice, practice, practice them. Some 99.99% of us won’t and that is a fact – a sad, sad fact – but true.
Do you want to spend your lifetime on earth as merely average? This is your opportunity to rise above the norm. Ask of yourself, What do I have to do to be in the top 0.01% of achievers? A winner! How do I become a winner?
With teamwork, here’s how.
Young or old, get the best education you can throughout your first 100 years. And save 10% of your earnings – faithfully and non-negotiable – ever and always. Those are the two most important things you’ll ever need to know.
There’s lot more, of course, and we’ll get to them but those are the ones you need to work on immediately. Study music and learn to play a musical instrument reasonably well – that’s another. Learn to write – speeches, songs, stories, books, screenplays, and
