    FOREWORD

    This book initially began as a personal endeavor. I aspired to organize my notes that had accumulated during my Bible study over a number of years. During this process, I realized that others may find this material beneficial as well. None of this would have been possible without the guidance, insight and knowledge of my mentor, the late Pastor Arnold Murray. He was one of the most effective teachers of God’s Word by explaining the Bible verse by verse and chapter by chapter. His knowledge of the Hebrew manuscripts was invaluable in giving a richer understanding of God’s Word. I also want to acknowledge E.W. Bullinger, who many consider to be one of the leading Christian theologians of the 20th century. His effort that produced the Companion Bible is the best text for the serious Bible student. The 198 Appendices which accompany the Companion Bible are unique and are referenced in the section of Bible topics for a more expanded understanding and provide extraordinary information. The Companion Bible is a King James Bible accompanied by Bullinger’s outline and explanatory comments in a companion column to the right of the text. The Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance is also very helpful. It is keyed to each word of the King James Bible and allows one to reference any word and discover its original Hebrew meaning in the Old Testament and its Greek meaning in the New Testament.

    In life, we experience trials and problems. I needed a practical, effective, Christian format of dealing with these inevitable circumstances. A list of favorite Bible verses had been compiled over time to help me do this, and after many years and suggestions from others, I decided to organize them in a more practical outline.

    During a conversation with my brother, K.W. Sorensen, M.D., an idea materialized that we should develop a model of Christianity that would indicate the process by which Christianity operates. I am a firm believer in models. Models are helpful in being a reference against which information can be analyzed and evaluated. They help us understand how concepts are interrelated and operate. Not only would this project be personally enlightening, but it would also provide a helpful framework for explaining Christianity to both believers and non-believers. Kent spent considerable time and effort in enhancing the Christianity Salvation Model’s explanation and the creative graphics. This Model’s origin begins with God’s Grace.

    NOTICE TO THE READER

    All the verses that are included come from the King James Bible version. However, different publishers are not consistent in whether or not to capitalize the personal pronouns that refer to God or Christ. The reader will no doubt notice these occasional inconsistencies.

    Also, at the end of Part I, there is information on how to access the Appendices that are referenced in the text.

    Although Part I was originally intended to be a topical reference, it is suggested that one read this section in its entirety. Doing so will provide enhanced biblical knowledge, generate a personal interest in God’s Word and lessen any intimidation one may have with biblical content.

    Absent from the Lord

    2 Corinthians 5:6. ⁶ Therefore, we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.

    Accidents

    Luke 13:4, 5. Accidents sometimes just happen. Tower of Siloam incident as the disciples question Jesus. ⁴Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? Jesus speaking: ⁵ I tell you, Nay;

    Achor

    Hosea 2:5-23. Transgressions deserve punishment, but God offers mercy as a sign of hope. ¹³ And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat Me, saith the LORD.¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.¹⁵ And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.¹⁶ And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call Me Ishi; and shalt call Me no more Baali.

    Adam

    Appendix 14. In the original Hebrew manuscript, ha’Adam refers to mankind which was created on the sixth day of creation. ‘Eth‘ha’ Adam is a special man, formed on the 8th day of creation (the original Hebrew manuscripts are clear on this) namely, Adam is the special man from whose seed-line Christ would come. See Christ’s genealogy in Luke 3:23-38. ²³ And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,– ³⁸ Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

    Mankind was created. Genesis 1:27. ²⁷ So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. Adam was formed i.e., two different verbs and two different events. Genesis 2:7. ⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    The term Adam means ruddy complexion, to be able to show blood in the face e.g., blush.

    Adam, types

    Old Testament the first Adam is the formed Adam; New Testament the second Adam is Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:45, 47. ⁴⁵ And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.⁴⁷The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

    Adultery

    In a spiritual sense, it refers to participating in (jumping in bed with) idolatry or false teaching. 1 Corinthians 6:9. ⁹ Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind. Believers are symbolically represented and expected to be as virgin brides of Christ and remain pure in His teaching. 2 Corinthians 11:2. ² For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

    Advent

    The First Advent is for teaching salvation; the Second Advent is for a time of Christ’s vengeance.

    Advent, first

    Zechariah 9:9. The coming of Christ was predicted in 407 BC. ⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

    Advent, second

    This is the return of Christ resulting in His tribulation and final destruction of Satan. Zechariah 9:10, 14.¹⁰ And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and He shall speak peace unto the heathen: and His dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth. ¹⁴And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

    1 Thessalonians 5:2-9. Pay attention when world leaders are proclaiming peace because this is a prerequisite for Jesus’ appearance who comes as a thief in the night e.g., one does not know exactly when He will arrive. ² For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. ⁴ But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.⁵ Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.⁷For they that sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.⁹For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.

    2 Thessalonians 2:1-4. Before Christ’s return, the antichrist must appear first. ¹Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto Him,² That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.³ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; ⁴ Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
