Tulips in April: A Collection of Poems
()
About this ebook
Poetry is energya palpable sense of energy. It comes out of relationships and my response to relationships with people, the earth and its seasons, passions, a sense of the spirit, wonder, awe, the shadow of pathos, and gratitude for the gift of it all.
This book reveals the interiority of my life. One takes a chance when presenting to the world that which springs from deep within. In that chance it is hoped "Tulips in April" will quietly find its way to souls who recognize the love of a small boy who gave his mother a bouquet of tulips on an April day many-many years ago.
Gary Ades Bowker
Gary Ades Bowker was born on the shore of Washington's Puget Sound in the moon shadow of Mt. Rainier. He has written for magazines and journals. This is his first publication of poems gathered from the inner pouch of a briefcase he transported from America to Asia, Europe, Africa and the seven seas. At eighty-one he chose to preserve the contents of the briefcase pouch in this small book.

Preface
I write poetry to express things I simply could not express in other ways. I say things in verse because it is revealed to me that way.
Some of my poetry is simply fun, nothing more… no other motive.
And, there are memories, places, scents, thoughts, losses, loves, longings and imaginations that become the words.
I do not begin with a design. Words appear in thoughts. I recognize rhythms and sense connections in words.
Sometimes there are no words. Thoughts go empty and vibrancy of poetic expression dies.
Poetry, at least my poetry, comes from a palpable sense of energy. The energy comes from my sense of relationships or relationship. If you see yourself in some of the poems it is because it might be you…or someone very much like you that created something in me.
I cannot say precisely why,
