Dr. Maria Balotta

Dr. Maria Balotta began teaching in public school at the age of 19. Her teaching experiences however, began in her early adolescence co-leading children’s groups and teaching Sunday school for young children. She has worked extensively with grades K thru 12 and taught adults at night school as well. Dr. Balotta, began her work as a School Counselor in 1997 and in 2003, she became the only counselor from the State of Ohio to be selected as one of 15 school counselors across the U.S.A. to serve on the first National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Committee in Arlington, VA. This committee helped redact the School Counseling Standards for NBPTS national certification. Maria has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education K-8, Magna Cum Laude, Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, a Master of Education in School Counseling K-12+, from Cleveland State University, and in 2011 she graduated from Ashland University receiving the degree of Doctor of Education. On that day she also received the highest honor bestowed upon a single graduate student at commencement each year: The Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Her doctoral dissertation, “Como el cantar del coquí: Educators of the Puerto Rican Diaspora in the U.S. Describe What Resilience Means to Them” is a phenomenological study on resilience. After 33 fun and rewarding years in the field of education, Maria retired to pursue her passion for composing stories and making a difference especially through her writing and other modalities. This is her first children’s book of many to come. Marie, (as her friends and family call her), is a certified Life Coach and Hypnotherapist, Member of the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. These days she can be found creating and living in love and gratitude with her husband Jim Balotta and their two puppies Sandy and Ruby. No obstante, sus experiencias docentes comenzaron en su adolescencia co-liderando grupos infantiles y enseñando a niños pequeños en la escuela dominical. Ha trabajado extensamente con los grados K ??hasta el 12 y también enseñó a adultos en la escuela nocturna. La Dra. Balotta, comenzó su trabajo como consejera escolar en 1997 y en el 2003, se convirtió en la única orientadora del estado de Ohio, y una de solo 15 consejeros escolares estadounidenses en ser seleccionados para servir en la primera Junta Nacional de Normas Profesionales de Enseñanza (NBPTS) en Arlington, VA. Tal junta trabajó en la redacción de las Normas de Consejería Escolar para la certificación nacional bajo NBPTS. María tiene un Bachillerato en Educación Elemental K-8, Magna Cum Laude, Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, una Maestría en Educación en Consejería Escolar K-12 +, de la Universidad Estatal de Cleveland. En el 2011 se graduó de la Universidad de Ashland recibiendo el grado de Doctora en Educación y el más alto honor otorgado a un estudiante de posgrado cada año durante los ejercicios de graduación: El Premio al Estudiante de Postgrado Sobresaliente. Su disertación doctoral, “Como el cantar del coquí ...” es un estudio fenomenológico sobre la resiliencia y educadores puertorriqueños en los Estados Unidos de America. Después de 33 años de una divertida y gratificante carrera en el campo de la educación, María se retiró para seguir su pasión por componer cuentos y hacer una diferencia especialmente a través de su escritura y otras modalidades. Este es su primer libro para niños de muchos por venir. Marie, (como le llaman sus amigos y familiares), es una entrenadora de vida certificada y una hipnoterapeuta, miembro de la Asociación Internacional de Hipnoterapia Médica y Dental. Habla, lee y escribe el inglés y el español con fluidez. En estos días la pueden hallar creando y viviendo en amor y en gratitud con su esposo Jim Balotta y sus dos cachorritas Sandy y Ruby.
