Dedication
I dedicate this novel to all the dog and pet lovers in the world. No one can understand the love one has for a pet except those that share their lives with showing loving care to their pets where some have been very mistreated but now have a second chance on life.

I THANK THE Good Lord for providing me with the loving pets I have had the pleasure of adopting and sharing my life with. They have filled my life with happiness, companionship and love.
PICTURES OF SOME OF MY LOVING DOGS
Scan0017_.jpgAs a child growing up in Chicago, Illinois I was always bringing home any stray dog that followed me home and asked my parents if I could keep them. I remember I had a Cocker Spaniel which my dad made me get rid of because it was a garbage eater. Then I found this Pekinese named Sparkle which was a dancing dog but we found the owner and I had to return her. Living on the third floor was really no place to raise a dog my parents would always tell me. So I would always play with Pudgy, my aunt’s dog that lived on the first floor with my cousins, Leona, Dolores and Jeanette.
I really didn’t own my own dog until I was married. That was when I owned Rinty a small black, German Shephard puppy. She was the apple of my eye. I took her everywhere we went except to church and the doctors. She was so playful but as she grew older she got into a lot of trouble. With my husband and me working she was left alone in the apartment and started to destroy things. Chewed up a rug, ate a lamp and shade and even ate a large hole in the wall of our apartment. It was so deep you could see the slats. She ate the plaster and wall paper off the wall and left a huge mess for us to clean up.
Maybe it was our fault since we took her everywhere with us and she didn’t like being home alone and took revenge damaging whatever she could. Our landlord was furious and told us either the dog goes or we do. I cried my eyes out but we didn’t have a choice so we found a nice couple that would give loving care to Rinty. We saved up enough to put a deposit on our very own house where we could have a dog and no one would make us get rid of it.
After searching for a nice house in a safe neighborhood we finally found one that we like in Burbank, Illinois. It had a large Kitchen with plenty of cabinets. There was a nice size living room with plenty of light from the windows, three good size bedrooms, a nice bathroom and a full size basement. It had large front and back yards and a long driveway with enough space for a two car garage to be built later. We couldn’t move in right away and waited till it was finished being built. I was pregnant with my first child. God blessed us with a beautiful, baby girl named Marcia but we called her Marcy for short.

Marcy was nine months old when we finally got to move into our very own house. I couldn’t wait to shop for a puppy so both Marcy and the puppy could grow up together having fun. We didn’t get a puppy instead we found a Belgium Shepard that was three years old, house broken and very good with children. We named her Queenie. She slept under Marcy’s crib at night and played with her in the daytime. You know what they say new house new addition well here was baby number two to join the family.
God blessed me with a healthy baby, boy named Michael but we called him Mike for short. One day our Queenie was missing. Someone had left the gate open in the stormy weather and Queenie took off. We searched all over the neighborhood, calling out her name but couldn’t find her. We were freezing and had to return home, heartbroken without our Queenie. We kept looking out the windows hoping to spot her and heard scratching at the back door. As I opened it I was surprised to see our Queenie covered with ice and snow.
I tried to wipe her off the best I could as tears rolled down my cheeks being so happy to see her again. The children kept hugging her. I wrapped her in a warm blanket and she rested in the living room by us where she fell asleep. We were surprised when we were blessed again not with another baby but with eight of Queenie’s puppies. They were so adorable but were a handful to take care of especially when they could crawl out of the high box. Queenie was a very good mommy and watched over and cleaned her pups daily.
Queenie was proud as a peacock and let us handle the pups. But as those pups grew older those adorable pups were monsters making mess after mess for me to cleanup. I had my hands full besides taking care of my two children, my husband, doing the laundry, shopping, cooking and my daily chores around the house plus bath time and potty patrol. My husband decided to give away the pups since the house was beginning to smell like an animal shelter. He gave them to a man who had people that wanted a puppy and promised us they would be well taken care of living in loving homes.
I’m sure Queenie missed her pups as much as we did and we gave her special attention to make up for it. Our Queenie suffered a stroke

the night and suffered a second stroke on the way to the Veterinarian Emergency Hospital in Crestwood, Illinois. There was nothing they could do for Queenie so she was euthanized. I couldn’t hold back my tears that ran on her body. I stayed with her until she took her last breath. I paid the bill and went to the truck where my husband was waiting for me. I couldn’t talk on the way home only cry. I thanked the good Lord that I did get to spend many years with Queenie, she was such a great dog and will hold a special place in my heart always. The house wasn’t the
