The Son of Xavier is a story of a young, married woman Juanita Wade, who discovers that she is carrying a child of a local, younger man that she was having an affair with. Juanitas husband, Monty, is currently serving active duty in the marine corps while these events were taking place. A very petrified Juanita seeks help from her best friend, Carmen, who is engaged to marry Jackson, Montys best friend. Jackson opposes of Carmen helping Juanita, because he feels like that Juanita is pulling his future wife into a storm that she created. Tension flares even more when Juanita learns that Monty is dishonorably discharged from the marine corps. Montys sudden arrival prompts Juanita to create a scandal into making Monty believe that the unborn child is his. These events are generated by an attractive young man named Xavier Lathem who causes hidden secrets to be revealed, as well as a tragedy. People are involuntarily connected to him in this crafted tale.

The rain poured hard as she got out of the car. When she unlocked the door, and let herself inside of the house while soaking wet, she laid down on the couch wondering and asking herself, What have I done? I did not mean for this to happen. I guess I am being punished because I was lonely and could not find another way to entertain myself. It was just a fling and a conquest. The thunder and lightning literally roared like an angry beast, and laying down on the couch was perfect shelter for her. Luckily Lenard was with Grandma Mary, and this was the solitude that Juanita needed. She wept silently as if she thought the whole world could hear her. She just kept staring at the living room window and watching the rain drops travel down the window. It was like the house was crying for her, she felt like she did not need to weep because the house was doing it for her. She placed both hands on her stomach and still wept silently. Her wedding picture appeared in her mind and made her sit up on the couch. I was only lonely, and what was he expecting me to do? The whole entire five years he was in the Marine Corp he came home only three fucking times she said to herself. Oh I know that does not justify anything, but I am human just like he is. I don’t think I will be able to explain this one. I don’t believe in abortions and I refuse to put my child up for adoption, otherwise I will always wonder if my child is eating."

I never tried to be Perfect Penelope, but he kept tempting me and I fought the temptation for a long time until he came walking down this block. He was so kind enough to bring the groceries to this house. He knew everything I needed. When I would try to reimburse him he would always step back from me and smile.

He was such a gentleman and he really knew how to treat a lady like a lady. He was like the prince that I always imagined about when I was a girl. All of these thoughts are playing in the mind of Juanita Harris Wade, but unfortunately she is still a married woman, and carrying the seed of a young man six years younger than she. This affair just really got out of control and the risk she is taking is going to cause some deep hardship with her husband Montgomery (Monty) Wade. Montgomery only enlisted for five years, and planned to come back so a steady check can keep coming to the house. Juanita is feeling like maybe she should have traveled with him, but she let her mother Mary talk her out of it. This made Monty furious with Juanita. He always felt that Juanita was intimidated by her mother.

Monty’s best friend is coming home and possibly Monty is soon to follow. Juanita feels like that Monty just gave her too much freedom however, she always wondered what was he doing in California that he could be hiding from her? Well Juanita certainly feels like she can’t hide anything from Monty. He was in town three months ago and she found out that she is eight weeks pregnant. She thought to herself one last time before she closed her eyes for the night. This boys genes must really be strong because I am feeling dizzy and sick to my stomach so many times a day, and it will not stop! Maybe deep down I don’t want it to stop because this child is all I have left of him. He must NEVER know!

CHAPTER ONE

The year is 1973 and a young man has returned home after receiving an honorary discharge from the Marine Corp. His name is S.F.C Jackson Ames and he takes a deep breath as he stepped off the train arriving from California, he stepped on the soil of his hometown in Hoffman Illinois. As he walked out in front of the train station he noticed that many taxi cabs were passing him back and forth, but this one particular cab stopped for the young marine. Jackson gave him the address to where he wanted to go, and the male driver proceeded. Jackson observed the changes in Hoffman. Being absent from Hoffman off and on since 1968 has really shocked Jackson. Many beautiful homes were built as well as new stores. Jackson did not want to think too much about Hoffman, he was only thinking more of the highlight of his homecoming, and that is to see Carmen John his best friend and lady of his life. The excitement of seeing Hoffman automatically transformed his thoughts to a wedding. Jackson met Carmen in high school and he fell in love with her instantly when he noticed her in the teen beauty contest. While the taxi was getting closer to Carmen’s sister’s condo her name is Cheryl John. Jackson was like a kid all over again from high school. Carmen was living with her sister for the last five years, however Jackson was visiting Carmen at Cheryl’s condo whenever he could leave from active duty. Cheryl thought the world of Jackson, because she knew he is the man for her baby sister. Cheryl unfortunately had a failed marriage with husband Reggie. Cheryl seemed to have closed the doors to marriage, but wanted nothing but happiness for Carmen. When the taxi pulled up in front of the three story building Carmen came running out of the building screaming with joy about the sight of Jackson. The couple embraced and kissed as Cheryl stood in the window watching and chuckling. The taxi driver, a man who looked to be in his 50s even watched the young couple for a few seconds and pulled off. Carmen asked Jackson did he pay the driver. Of course I did Jackson said as he took his soon to be bride by her hand, and they walked up to the third floor condo where Cheryl had been residing for the last ten years. Cheryl hugged her soon to be brother in law, she fixed dinner and the three talked and laughed for hours. It seemed like Cheryl was just as happy for Jackson to be home just as much as Carmen was, because she started talking about preparations for the upcoming wedding. Carmen teased her older sister saying You just can’t wait to get rid of me can’t you?

Cheryl laughed and said Yes you are right. Jackson is very excited about the wedding, however he is somewhat a little sad, because Jackson was adopted and he did not know much about his natural family. Jackson’s adoptive parents both were middle aged when Jackson was adopted and both died from natural causes. Carmen always knew how saddened Jackson was about losing his parents and wanted him to know that she will always be there for him. Carmen and Cheryl’s family was all Jackson knew and they welcomed him with open arms and doors.

There is a close friend of Carmen and Jackson’s his name is Montgomery Wade. He goes by the nick name Monty. The two grew up together in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools as well. Carmen and Monty were actually friends before she met Jackson. Carmen introduced Monty to the love of his life, whose name is Juanita Harris. The four double dated a lot in high school, but there were times when Juanita was always eyeballing other boys, when they were out and that would not set right with Monty. Monty is also serving active duty in the Marine Corp and amazingly he and Jackson lived in the same barracks. Carmen asked Jackson about Monty and he responded that Monty is doing fine. Jackson mentioned that Monty said he might be coming home for good to spend more time with his family. Monty and Juanita were married for only four short years and have a son named Lenard who is 3 years old, and he is a carbon copy of Monty. Carmen mentioned to Jackson that she really needs to talk to Jackson about Juanita, but she decided it can wait because the couple are having such a wonderful time with each other. They listened to Cheryl tell some of her sorority stories when she was in college and for the first time in years Cheryl spoke about Reggie and Carmen was very surprised.

Carmen always told Cheryl that she should not try to pretend like Reggie never existed because he did. Cheryl loved that man accordingly, but he would not keep his fidelity. Jackson always told Carmen what a beautiful woman Cheryl is and Reggie must have been crazy to cheat on her. Carmen told Jackson that Reggie came from a family where it seemed like it was okay to commit adultery, because his father cheated for years on his mother, and Reggie was encouraged in the wrong manner by his father.

Jackson assured Carmen that she does not have to worry about that with him, because she is a lot of woman for him, and he cannot stop thinking of how dazzling and radiant she looked on the stage, when she was in the Teen Beauty Contest. Carmen did not win, but she was a winner to Jackson. The evening matured into midnight and Cheryl went to bed while the love birds cuddled on the couch and talked as well as smooched. The condo had another bedroom where they both would eventually retire. They both discussed that life as they know, is not always a Bowl of Cherries or a Perfect Sunrise. The couple just wanted to have assurance with each other, that they will be as one with each other and to always communicate when there are issues. The mood was perfect in Chery1’s living room, but for the romantic activity that they both had on their minds, it was time to take that short walk to the bedroom and close the door. After both undressed they stood holding each other and kissed. Jackson undressed and laid his nude body down on the bed and covered himself from the waist down. Carmen lit a candle which she’d already placed on the night stand and Carmen joined Jackson removing the sheet from Jackson’s nude center and sat her shapely hips on Jackson’s manhood with her beautifully sculptured nude body and the passion began.

The next morning the couple were cuddled up together after hours of passion. They could smell the aroma of breakfast cooking. So the pair got up out of the bed and put on their sleepers, robes and followed the aroma to the kitchen where Cheryl was cooking breakfast.

Rise and shine lovebirds! Cheryl said as Carmen was slightly blushing.

We tried to stay as quiet as we could. Carmen said as she and Jackson sat down at the kitchen table.

Tried to stay quiet? You two wasn’t making enough noise for me. What were you two doing sit ups?

Cheryl jokingly asked as the couple outburst with laughter.

Cheryl I forgot how comical you can be. Jackson said still laughing.

She gets that from our dad, he was very funny. Carmen said chuckling.

Listen I have to go out for a little while. You kids think you can handle being by yourselves for a few hours? Cheryl asked smiling.

I thought you were going to eat breakfast with us. Jackson asked seeming disappointed.

Oh I ate already, plus I want you both to spend as much time alone with each other as possible. By the way a friend of mine who is a wedding planner is stopping by later this evening about 7pm so please don’t make any plans, at least for this evening. Cheryl asked while Carmen stared at her sister as if she is confused about something.

Sure we will not, but is everything okay Cheryl? Jackson asked.

Yes everything is fine. Cheryl said as she grabbed her car keys and purse and announced that she will be home in a few hours just before she exited condo.

Jackson noticed how Carmen seemed troubled and disturbed about something. Jackson walked over to her and grabbed her hand to give her comfort about something that he does not understand.

Jackson there is something going on with my sister and I can’t figure out what it is? Carmen said.

I think you are having some anxiety about our wedding. Jackson said.

Jackson stop it! I know what I am talking about. Have you not noticed how she is going on about our wedding more than we are? Already she is having one of her friends to organize our wedding and you have not been here a full 24 hours yet. Carmen said.

Carmen she is so happy for you! Can’t you see that? Jackson Said.

Jackson, you are so blinded about this wedding to the point that you cannot see that something is wrong. I know my sister. Carmen said with agitation.

Okay Carmen, then maybe it is time for you to have a heart to heart talk with your sister. I’m sorry if I seem like I am blind, but I really think you are worrying about nothing. Jackson said.

Really Jackson? Well what about the fact that I know that Juanita is cheating on Monty. Carmen said.

What? Jackson said looking up.

Yes Jackson and it gets more interesting than that. I know she is two months pregnant. Carmen said as Jackson started laughing.

Carmen that is ridiculous because Monty was here three months ago. Jackson said.

That’s right Jackson three months ago, and she is showing symptoms of late stages of pregnancy. She was here last week, and Cheryl told me she was throwing up in the bathroom, she tried to be discreet about it. Juanita claimed it was something she ate. Carmen said.

How could Juanita pull something like this? She knows how Monty is! Jackson said.

She complained to me about being lonely and bored and all she knows is taking Lenard to school, and bringing him back home. Carmen said.

What is wrong with her? That’s what mother’s and daddy’s do! Plus Monty wanted Juanita and Lenard to live on base with him, but she did not want to leave, and Juanita’ s mother was behind that. Jackson said.

I know, and you said that Monty maybe coming home for good that scares me Jackson. Monty has always been like a brother to me and I just hate to see him hurt by Juanita. Carmen said as she started getting slightly agitated.

Jackson walked to Carmen and embraced her. Jackson was beginning to fill some very strong hostility and resentment for Juanita. He remembers how flirtatious Juanita could be and seemed to have a clear conscience about it, even around Monty. Jackson was not crazy about Juanita because of her ways. He fills like that Monty married Juanita because he loved her, but Juanita married Monty for the sake of Lenard. It does however take two to make a marriage work, Jackson thought to himself. Did Juanita really love Monty or she was just in love with the idea of being married. Carmen was Juanita’s maid of honor and of course Jackson was the best man. The wedding was small with about 50 people. Jackson just can’t stop remembering how happy the newlyweds were. While they were on their honeymoon Carmen and Cheryl babysat Lenard. That was quite an experience for Carmen, because she has never considered motherhood, while she and Jackson were still dating even at that time. Carmen was still upset about Juanita’s infidelity, but Jackson told her that this is definitely an issue that Monty and Juanita will have to work out. However, rather they like it or not Jackson and Carmen will be caught in the middle.

Meanwhile the couple watched television and listened to music. Jackson was a rock fan and Carmen loved rock also, but her favorite tunes was popular 70s love songs. Jackson managed to put her in a cheerful mood by playing her favorite song This Is Our Love Story They slow danced and acted as if they were preparing for a life together, a lot like they were the other night.

Jackson I just know that we are so perfect for each other. I know there will be some ups and downs, but I believe we have a plan that will never let the fire burn out between us. Carmen said with that glow in her face that sends Jackson into a trance.

Yes we do baby, I always knew that. Jackson said.

All we can do is just be there when the cat comes out the bag for Monty and Juanita. Carmen said.

Carmen? Do you know who Juanita is cheating with? Jackson asked.

Yes Jackson I think I know, but I don’t want to tell you until it’s the right time. Carmen said as the two were still slow dancing.

Well when is the right time Carmen? You have told me enough already so how about finishing?" Jackson asked becoming slightly furious.

Jackson please? Not right now we are having such a great time. Carmen said as Jackson stopped moving.

I want to know now Carmen who is it! Jackson interjected.

Jackson I just feel like if I tell you who it is, you are going to be on that phone so fast with Monty. Carmen said.

I know we are not going to start this secret thing. Jackson said.

It is not a secret Jackson. You don’t have any idea how hard it was to tell you about Juanita in the first place. I am going to tell you, but I don’t want you reporting it Monty. You know he will be on a plane so fast. Carmen said moving away from Jackson.

Carmen you look so terrified all of the sudden. Jackson said.

Yes I am Jackson. I love Monty, but he is crazy and you know it. Juanita is pregnant by another man, and that is something that Monty does not need to know while he is still in California. Carmen said.

He will resent both of us for not telling him. Jackson said.

What’s worst Jackson is I have not even asked Juanita about this! I don’t think we are even supposed to know that she is pregnant! I don’t want Juanita screaming and yelling at me, you or Cheryl about this. Carmen said.

What the hell! Cheryl knows about this too? Jackson asked with a confused look on his face.

Yes, she doe’s. I told you that she was here purging in the bathroom and Cheryl and I both was here when it happened. Carmen said.

She was just probably sick that day? Jackson asked.

Dammit Jackson! A woman knows another woman very well. Just like a man knows another man. Pull the wool from your eyes and accept reality! Carmen said with fire in her eyes.
