The Rise of Women, the Fall of Men

The year was 2018, and the United States had built a time machine. After years of testing the government was ready to test it. They looked at a hundred candidates. Some were FBI agents, CIA agents, police officers, and firefighters. They were all tested in the same way, but only one was chosen: a cop out of Jacksonville, Florida.

They pulled up in an all-black Benz to a secret location. They pulled up to the security guard. And the driver showed the ID pass. They pulled into the building, and then they got on an elevator. The driver said, This is a long way down. I’m a little nervous. Said Swavy. The driver smiled. The elevator doors opened, and Swavy walked in. He saw people in white suits.

Mr. Brooks walked up to him and said, This is a proud day for the United States. I’m glad to have you as a subject. Right this way. They walked over to the machine. What do you think my device? said Mr. Brooks.

It looks like a watch, said Swavy.

I know. It used to be real big, but we’ve been working over the years to make it smaller, to look like an everyday watch. The only people who know about this is the people in this room, said Mr. Brooks.

Swavy looked around and said, What about her? It was a woman with a mop bucket cleaning up.

Yes, who’s that woman? I will be right back, said Mr. Brooks. Swavy looked at him as he walked off to talk to the woman.

A man walked up to Swavy and said, My name is Derrick Will, I helped build it. We started on this in the eighteen hundreds. A lot of people died for this technology.

Anything I need to worry about? said Swavy.

Don’t lose the watch, or you will never get back home. And never tell anyone about the time machine. I don’t care if your life depended on it.

Mr. Brooks walked back up and said, I see you met Mr. Will. Now let’s get you ready.

They took him to a room with all-white walls, a white table, and a white chair. This is an all-white room. I never thought I’d see an all-white room, shit! I never thought I’d time travel. I must be the luckiest man in the world, said Swavy.

You are the luckiest man in the world. You got chosen out of hundreds. We need to go over some rules. Rule number one: never tell anybody about the time machine. Rule number two: never be seen using the time machine. Rule number three: never talk to anyone. Rule number four: never get caught with the time machine. You only have one job, to look and report, said Mr. Brooks.

Do you have any questions? said Mr. Will.

I have a lot of questions, said Swavy.

You can only ask me three.

Okay. When was the first time? said Swavy.

In 1965, we launched our first mission in New York City.

Did anybody get killed using this device? said Swavy.

    No, said Will.

What would I do if I break it? said Swavy.

Like I said before, you will never get home, said Mr. Will. Mr. Brooks set down a thick book and told Swavy to read it and to memorize it.

You want me to read all that? said Swavy.

Yes, said Mr. Will. Then they walked out of the room.

This better be worth it, said Swavy.

Two hours later, Mr. Will walked back into the room and said, How are you doing?

I am hungry. Can I get something to eat?

No, we have to get you ready, said Mr. Will.

We? Who is we? said Swavy. Then a couple of people in white suits walked in. Two
