See you later, love,’ I said to my wife, Theresa. Then I hugged my four children, who were aged two, four, six and seven.
I was 25 and my brother, David, 16, was visiting us, so I’d roped him in to helping me with work for the day.
We were transporting logs from the bush to the sawmill in South Gippsland, Vic.
Driving the logging truck through the country, David and I chatted about fishing.
As we made our way down a narrow road, we reached a bend that had a blind spot.
It didn’t look like anyone was coming the other way, so I carefully continued on.
But seconds later, a ute with a canopy came flying around the corner and collided into us.
