When two people decide, they want to be together it’s a commitment you must take seriously. We all realize relationships have ups and downs. Good healthy relationships consist of challenging work between both partners. And when you decide to add children into the mix then you must remember it’s not a game. This is Miranda’s story on how children get caught up in their parent’s drama and become the victim of selfishness.

Miranda never truly understood, even as an adult, why kids were used like a pawn (You know like in the game of chess). Like so many parents, Miranda’s were not married. It happens so often, people would say it’s the norm. Miranda’s parents (David and Diane) plan was to move in with Diane’s parents until Miranda was born and save enough money to get a place of their own. Imagine living with your girlfriend’s parents, no privacy, her mother going through your things. This just wasn’t for David. Eventually David moved out but he continued to date and went to the doctor appointments with Diane.

And of course, he was there was there for the birth of their daughter. Diane soon realized that David wasn’t so faithful, after the birth of Miranda, David was seeing both Diane and this other woman, Carrie. Now what we all must realize is that we can’t place the blame on Carrie. But, Carrie should have stepped back and told David to end it with Diane first before they could have a relationship. David knew he was doing wrong. Diane eventually broke it off with David, a game she didn’t want to play. And from what Miranda was told David didn’t see much of her because Carrie didn’t think Miranda was his. Eventually a blood test was proven that she was indeed his. But of course, they each have their own version, Miranda was under the assumption that her dad didn’t want much to do with her mother, because her dad got married when she turned one.

Miranda’s parents had three girls, 11 months apart. A set of twins and Miranda of course, the three of them could pass for triplets. Miranda was under the impression Diane took off shortly after she had given birth to her sisters. But that was not the case. Carrie told Miranda that David had no idea he had a set of twins. But he did know because Diane’s sister went to the bar David was working at and told him. Did David not have visitation with Miranda because of Carrie? Did Carrie find these girls a threat to her relationship with David? Maybe Carrie didn’t want to deal with baby mama issues (as we call it these days). What matters is that David did not choose to do the right thing. His daughters should have been his priority not these women. Miranda was under the assumption that her mother has never been fond of her stepmom Carrie, there must have been some history between the two, besides the fact she took her man. Unfortunately, Miranda’s father was a player (meaning David loved women). But of course, we all know there’s his side, her side, and everybody else’s.

A year later Diane took off and moved her girls to Texas. Miranda was not quite sure if her mother met the man in their hometown or what. Diane did not talk much about this man. Diane got pregnant and returned home and delivered a baby girl. From what Miranda was told her grandparents made Diane place the baby up for adoption, she said they were racist (baby was half Indian half white). She somehow believes it was because they didn’t feel she could take care of four girls with no fathers around. Till this day, you can see Diane regrets it, the pain her eyes as she talks about it from time to time. Diane has told Miranda that she tried to look for her daughter, but she gave up. No success. Miranda understands that we all make choices we must live with. She never truly understood what her mother was running from.

Several years went by when Diane decided it was time for her girls to meet their father. One day, David received a summons to appear in court. Diane finally decided to have a paternity test done to prove Miranda’s sisters were David’s. Test showed all three girls belonged to David. The judge granted David every other weekend and was ordered to pay child support for all three. Why did David wait so long to see his girls? Was Carrie the reason David didn’t see his girls for 11 years, after all, they started their own family. Did Diane do all this to make a point to Carrie? The problem was with the two of you, don’t punish your kids for your mistakes. Your children do not have the option to choose their parents, you make that choice for them. Choose wisely!

Diane eventually did the right thing (or was made to do the right thing) Miranda would have liked to think her mother did it on her own. Miranda and her sisters visited their dad every other weekend. Miranda’s sisters didn’t go as much as she did, she was guessing no connection with him. But somehow Miranda knew it was because her sisters were not comfortable around Carrie. You must know Miranda had David’s last name her sisters did not. Miranda’s sisters did not have their dads last name because David denied them. Miranda received her dads last name, was because he was there when she was born. But all three of the girls look just like David. She felt a lot of resentment towards her mother for years. But was David truly the one to blame. She never got to be daddy’s little girl, it was a very big deal for Miranda. It was unfair and selfish of Diane and Carrie for keeping Miranda and her sisters from their father. Their vindictive ways cost those three girls time with their dad. To this day, Diane thinks Miranda has forgotten all about it and she has not. Some may think why does it matter now, but it does. She thinks about it more often than she should. Miranda’s whole life got turned upside down. But as you can tell David didn’t want to deal with it. Someone Miranda admired once told her "she needed to forgive then
